Summary on 1 June

  • There might have been casualties in a bomb explosion at a crowded bus-stop in Yangon. Most people thought that the junta and Pyu Saw Htee members were responsible for the incident as PDF youths would not harm the public. They also assumed that the military junta had made up the story at the time that a visa was being issued to the new UNICEF regional representative to demonstrate to the international community that PDFs are violent against members of the public.
  • The Northern Alliance announced that they would keep supporting the KNDF. It said that though it only started a year ago, the KNDF is united and has had many military successes and has the potential to become a stronger force.
  • The United Wa State Party urged Min Aung Hlaing to resolve the current crisis through discussions. To them, the military coup is just a problem among Burmese ethnic people. They also called for self-determination and a state of their own. Judging from this, they might make an effort to take advantage of the crisis.
