The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • There was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Extended Public Administration Teams.
  • Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that it was important to provide financial support to People’s Defence Forces-PDFs and Local Defence Forces-LDFs so that they could survive to provide defence and security.
  • In the Jakarta Post, Acting President of the NUG wrote an article - ‘Federal democracy, not military rule, is Myanmar’s future’ saying that the junta’s election would just arouse more instability and nationwide protests would not stop.

Revolution Activities

  • In Namsam of Shan North, there has been heavy fighting between the junta armed forces and Ta’ang National Liberation Army-TNLA. As the military junta has been conducting air strikes, local people have had to run away.
  • In Pulaw Township of Taninthayi Region, PDFs attacked the positions of the junta armed forces. Reportedly, no less than 2 junta soldiers died.
  • In Salingyi Township of Sagaing Region, there was an attack using mortars on the junta members taking security at Myanmar Wan Bao Company at 7:30 pm Thursday. Reportedly, two members of the junta police died.
  • At about 6:00 pm Wednesday, there was a mine attack on junta soldiers on patrol near Kampyu East Village on Monywa-Ayadaw Road. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and 2 others were seriously injured.
  • In Myinmu Township, there was a mine attack on a convoy of 6 military trucks on the Monywa-Mandalay Road at about 10:00 pm Thursday. Reportedly, one of them was damaged.
  • In Ayadaw Township, a combined rally of strike committees and students unions protested against the military dictatorship, holding anti-junta signs.
  • On Friday, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • In Monywa, youth marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Friday, holding signs - ‘Can’t punish faith with the death sentence’.
  • In Kantbalu Township, junta soldiers and Pyusawti members in military uniform set fire to WetthaIn Village at 7:30 am Friday.
  • In Kani Township, there was a powerful rally against the military dictatorship on Friday. They also conducted a public talk prior to International Human Rights Day.
  • In Mandalay, youth carried out an anti-junta movement on Friday, hanging a banner on Thaitpan Road.
  • In Boatpyin Township of Taninthayi Region, local residents of Yadanarpone (Maing) Village have had to run away as junta soldiers have threatened them.
  • On Friday, the UK government announced that they had put sanctions on the Military Security Chief Office, Regiment (33) and Regiment (99) for their violations of human rights.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Namsam Township of Shan North, there have been battles between the junta army and TNLA for three consecutive days.
  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, 3 military troops invaded an area near Konetha Village at 11:45 pm on 6 December. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died in a mine attack.
  • In Dimawso Township, Karenni combined forces lost their members in local battles respectively.
  • Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt was appointed to be the spokesperson of the free coordination committee of NCA-7 EAOs.

The Military Council

  • On Thursday, the junta’s former Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Hla Soe, the junta’s former Economic Minister U Sung Than Oo and the junta’s Regional Secretary U Soe Soe Zaw received long imprisonments.
  • Reportedly, Daw Aung San Su Kyi rejected the junta’s negotiation using Daw Sandar Min.
  • According to the statistics of the junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce, the trade deficit in import/ export sector was over 464 million USD in the 8 months of the current fiscal year.
  • The junta Minister of Hotel and Tourism said that they had been attracting Chinese tourists with the jade market.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing repeated that there had been effort related to traditional medications for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.
  • Among the members of the National Ceasefire Agreement-NCA, 7 ethnic armed organizations offered a meeting with the junta peace team.
  • The junta propaganda media stated that 5 PDF trainees had been arrested at Ziyoemai Tollbooth on Yangon-Mandalay Highway.

Summary on 9 December

  • With battlefields all over the country, the military junta has been faced hardships in terms of politics, economy and military affairs. At such a time, they have been arranging an election just as an escape. They know that they would not make it with the public. So, they tried using the public’s leader. However, they failed.
  • In Shan North, there has been heavy fighting between the junta army and TNLA. With a great loss, junta soldiers have used heavy artillery and air strikes. As they tend to target civilians in their attack, thousands of local people have had to run away.
