Spring Revolution Daily News for 12 February 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Minister of Defence-NUG claimed that the People’s Defence Forces-PDFs of the NUG were able to strongly control most of the rural areas in Myanmar. 
  • In Minbu District of Magwe Region, a combined force of local PDFs raided and attacked Kanbya police station. According to the Ministry of Defence-NUG, there were about 30 casualties among the junta members and some parts of the station were burnt. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Sagaing Region, Taze Township General Strike conducted an anti-junta march on Saturday, raising a banner against the junta’s fake election. 
  • In Taze Township, there was an attack on junta Pyusawti members at 10:00 pm Friday. Reportedly, two of them died and many others were injured. 
  • In Sagaing Township, there was an attack on the car of the junta members including the Chief Officer of Ywathitgyi Police Station at 8:00 am Saturday. Reportedly, no less than two of them died. 
  • On Saturday, a rally of Yinmabin North marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Monywa, the youth marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Saturday, raising a banner - ‘Martyrs never die’. 
  • As a 702-day protest, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, a combined force of local PDFs attacked and took control of the base, where the Pyusawti in Saintnar Village and the junta army had been stationed, on Thursday night. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, PDFs conducted an attack on the junta station in Nyaungkaing Village on Friday morning. Reportedly, the junta army lost a member and they also had to let go of their camp. 
  • In Monywa Township, there was a gunfire targeting the car of two junta soldiers on their way back to North West Military Headquarters. Reportedly, both of them died. 
  • Based in Kalay Township, local PDF Regiment (12) has carried out a fund-raising raffle named ‘The Beginning of Federal’ for the procurement of weapons. 
  • In Saw Township of Magwe Region, there were simultaneous attacks on the junta army camps in Longshay at about 1:20 am Thursday. Reportedly, 11 junta soldiers and policemen died. As for the PDFs, they lost a member. 
  • In Pakkoku Township, PDFs raided and attacked the junta army of livestock based in Myitchay on Saturday morning. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers including 2 officers died, 3 others were caught alive and weapons were confiscated. 
  • In Magwe, bullets were fired at a junta traffic policeman, who had confiscated motorbikes to break the Silent Strike, at about 3:30 pm Friday. Reportedly, he died in the incident. 
  • In Magwe, there were attacks using missiles on the junta air force and weapon factory on Thursday night and Friday morning. 
  • In Mandalay, the junta staff beat the female prisoners in Obo Prison. Reportedly, dozens of these prisoners were injured. 
  • In Paungte Township of Bago Region, the administrator of Thabyegyisu Village was shot dead by PDFs on Friday morning. Reportedly, Maw Gyi, the substitute one, was also shot dead. 
  • In Hpa-Ang of Kayin State, there was a bomb attack on the administration office in Ward (3) on Friday morning. 
  • In Pekone Township of Shan State, junta fighter jets dropped 500-pound bombs onto Western Kayan Village Group at 11:30 pm Friday. 
  • According to Data for Myanmar on Friday, more than 50,000 public’s houses from all over the country have been burnt down since the military coup. 
  • According to military sources, the junta army will conduct more air strikes in Chin, Karenni, Kachin and Karen states in the days to come. 
  • On Sunday, vocalist Mokhar will sell his ‘WAFB’ album online and 80% of the sale income will go to the revolution fund. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • The military junta sent a letter to the Chair and the Commander of Karen National Union-KNU to control the KNLA, KNDO and PDFs. According to a CEC member of the KNU, this was an act to divide the unity of their forces and they had already decided to fight until the end of the military dictatorship. 
  • According to the spokesperson of CNA/CNF, Chin Revolution Forces have been able to influence 70% of the areas in Chin State. 
  • In Mindat, two junta policemen died and two junta soldiers were injured in a local battle on Wednesday. 
  • In Kyaikto Township of Mon State, a combined force of KNU/KNLA conducted an attack via mortars on the junta army at the crossroads of Latbanbin near Ingabo Village at 8:30 am Saturday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Kyaukgyi Township under the KNU in Bago Region, the junta army shot heavy artillery towards local villages on purpose. Consequently, a person died and 3 others were injured. According to KNU Central, more than 4000 local residents have had to run away. 
  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, there was an attack on the junta army stationed in Puha Village on Friday morning. According to the Karenni National Defence Force-KNDF on Saturday, a junta soldier died. 

The Military Council 

  • In Dakkhina Thiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw, the pieces of jewelry were enshrined in the middle part of the pagoda donated by the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing. 
  • The junta Ministry of Home Affairs released a weapon policy containing the provision that a person can carry up to 3 licensed guns. 
  • According to the junta Union Election Commission-UEC, the political parties registered for the election campaign in a specific state or region will not be able to do so in another state or region. 
  • Starting from 10 February, the military junta conducted an event with ethnic shows and food fairs at the People’s Square in Yangon in commemoration of the 76th Union Day. 
  • According to the junta propaganda newspapers, the junta prisons have called a tender for the procurement of rice. 
  • According to the junta UEC, the Union Democratic Party, led by U Kyaw Myint or a criminal of money laundering, changed their name to Union Democracy Party and registered again on Thursday. 
  • The junta Central Bank stated that some importers and exporters were allegedly carrying out activities for the rise of foreign currency exchange rate and thus, there would be legal action against them. 
  • In honor of the 76th Union Day, the Postal Service Department under the junta Ministry of Transportation and Communication will sell a new kind of stamp worth 200 MMK. 
  • For the insurance of vehicles including electric ones, an MOU was signed between the junta Myanmar Insurance Department and motor vehicle sale centres. 
  • The junta propaganda team announced that the bridge near Tawnaw Village had been blown up by armed groups in Nyaunglebin Township of Bago Region on Thursday afternoon. 

Summary on 11 February 

  • The military junta announced that their pillars, namely administrators, Pyusawti and so-called People’s Army, could carry guns officially. In other words, it is just an act to stir fear among the public. According to their statement, those privileged to carry guns are to carry out activities related to security anytime if necessary. So, it is just killing two birds with one stone. 
  • In Magwe Region, PDFs conducted simultaneous attacks all over the place. As for the junta army, they had a great loss and they had to rely on the support of air strikes. Judging from this, it could be said that the People’s Defensive War has been turning into an offensive one.
