The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG expressed their frustration over the meeting of Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister and Chair of ASEAN, with the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing in Nay Pyi Taw of Myanmar on 7th and 8th January.
  • The NUG vowed to keep their commitments, in cooperation with ASEAN, to rebuild democracy in accordance with the 5-point consensus, put an end to inhumane activities of the military junta and provide humanitarian aid to all those in need in Myanmar.
  • The NUG announced that ASEAN Special Envoy to Myanmar was to implement the plan for in-person meetings with President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi in detention.
  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 63 members of the junta armed forces had died and 8 others had been injured on Monday.
  • The Acting President of the NUG said that as the public’s revolution became more and more successful, the military junta conducted more and more violence against the public.
  • At the NUG meeting, Acting President said that it was necessary for those who had to serve the junta army for their basic needs and political parties with self-interest to immediately stand with the public and fight against the military dictatorship.
  • Man Win Khine Than, Union Prime Minister of the NUG, said that the military junta had been using air strikes to make troubls for the public as they could not compete with unity and strong determination of the public for the revolution, and that they could not also beat the EAOs and PDFs.
  • The NUG announced that Union Prime Minister led an emergency meeting with responsible personnel of the Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) on Sunday evening and they had a friendly and open discussion on cooperation to deal with inhumane activities of the military junta in Karenni State and the difficulties faced by civilians.
  • The NUG expressed their strong condemnation against terrorist’ acts of the military junta throughout the country, including human rights violations by the junta armed forces in Karenni State. They also announced that they would keep supporting those who had to suffer due to the dictators.

Revolution Activities

  • On Tuesday afternoon, Yangon youth and students led a guerrilla protest against the military dictatorship, holding signs - ‘Power sends bad people to hell’.
  • In Twantay Township of Yangon Region, PDF Twantay Rangers shot at the junta security booth near police station at about 8:45 pm Monday.
  • In Ye-U Township of Sagaing Region, local PDFs destroyed Myanmar Beer and Black Shield Beer, products related to the military junta, on Monday.
  • In Ye-U Township, the junta armed forces raided Chantha village on Monday and shot dead two villagers for no apparent reason. According to Yu-U Urban Guerrillas, junta soldiers also arrested some local people, broke into houses and took away valuable things.
  • In Dibeyin Township, local people marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In the south of Kalay, the junta army opened gunfire in Thazi village on Tuesday morning and shot dead a villager named U Pho Tun for no apparent reason.
  • As a 307-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Wetlet Township and Monywa Township, 8 Pyusawti members and pro-military people were killed. According to local sources, there was no one to take away the bodies.
  • In Tigyaint Township, the junta army shot dead two men at about 7:00 pm on Sunday, saying that they were on a motorbike.
  • In Tamu Township, local PDF raided Oatpho Kanbaung detention camp there was a fighting. Reportedly, 11 staff members, including prison officer, died. As for the PDF, they lost two members.
  • In Inle Area of Nyaungshwe Township in Shan South, Inle People’s Defence Force (IPDF) was established on Monday.
  • In Maikai Township, there was a fighting between two Shan EAOs- RCSS and SSPP. According to volunteers, over 320 children of the IDPs are in need of warm clothes and food as a matter of urgency.
  • In Winemaw Township of Kachin State, junta soldiers have been shooting at the cars passing in front of the junta army regiment (321) near Shwenyaungbin village for no apparent reason.
  • In Phakant Township, a powerful rally of local people marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Mandalay, Aungmye Thazan Students’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement on Tuesday morning, sharing anti-junta newsletters in crowded places in their township.
  • In Kyaunggone of Ayeyarwaddy Region, two young people conducted a bomb explosion at the shop of an allegedly junta informer in Supkwin village on Monday night. Reportedly, they were beaten and arrested.
  • In Mindone Township of Magwe Region, the junta army was attacked with mines by Thayet-Kamma PDFs at about 9:00 am Tuesday. Reportedly, at least 8 junta soldiers may have died.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Tiri village of Nyaungshwe Township, the junta Pao National Organization (PNO) inspected the IDPs from Loikaw of Karenni State.
  • KNDF warned the public that there could be more air strikes by the junta armed forces as they had a great loss in Dimawso and Loikaw.
  • In Halule village of Myawaddy Township in Kayin State, the junta army started to shoot mortars at about 5:00 am morning and there was a fighting in the area.
  • In Maikai Township of Shan South, Chair of Ta’ang National Party (TNP), his wife and their 7-month-old baby girl had been out of contact since Monday morning. On Tuesday morning, TNP announced that they had been inspected and arrested by RCSS on the way back to Maikai from Matchinote village.
  • In Chin State, there was a fighting at the junta army on Matupi-Paletwa road on Monday. According to CDF Matupi, 3 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • At Hakha hospital divergent point, the junta armed soldiers forced some young people to share propaganda documents in the Chin ethnic language with houses and pedestrians at about 10:30 am Monday.

The Military Council

  • According to Yangon Khitthit Media, MEC businesses, owned by the junta army, had a great loss after the coup due to projects being cancelled, in addition to a decrease in income.
  • According to a prison staff member, the military junta have been cutting 1000 MMK from salaries of non-CDM staff on a monthly basis to support family members of the junta police and soldiers who died in battles all over the country.
  • Phyo Thant, chief of north west military headquarters, was assigned to be deputy minister of border affairs as he could not carry out effective activities for the stability in Sagaing Region.
  • The junta ministry of foreign affairs announced that there would be legal action against COVID-infected people, the U.S diplomat passport holder and a staff member of the U.S Embassy, as they failed to follow COVID-19 measures of Myanmar.
  • According to the junta newspaper, fuel oil imported by 26 companies would be sold with special prices in states and regions.
  • At 9:30 am Tuesday, there was an opening ceremony of capacity-building training for the staff of junta election commission (1/2022) at No. (3) investigation and accommodation army.
  • The military junta announced that the junta armed forces in 3 helicopters had gone to Ohnnaut village of Yinmabin Township to arrest PDF members who were getting together for a meeting. Reportedly, there were exchanges of fire. 5 dead bodies and some weapons were confiscated.
  • In Ward (8) of Shwepyitha Township, two Rakhine ethnic women had to face a lawsuit by the junta election commission under the Electoral Fraud Criminal Law (Section 171).
  • Using the air force based in Namsam in Shan South with many EAOs, the military junta continued to conduct air strikes in other areas.
  • According to CDM staff, the military junta gave more pressure to anti-junta CDM staff in early 2022. Major general Mg Mg Kyaw, chief officer of the junta air force, was replaced with deputy major general Tun Aung.

Summary on 11 January

  • With a change in top positions, the junta leader seems to do it to keep his power. He has been building his strength by removing those who may hurt his position and jump-promoting those who may obey him. It is not possible that those transfers were due to failure in military operation. To cover up his mismanagement among those with high-ranking positions, he seemed to make such changes.
  • In Sagaing, Chin, Karenni and Kayin with military operations, junta soldiers have been committing war crimes. Reportedly, local people in Sagaing Region have been murdered by the junta armed forces on a daily basis for no apparent reason.
