The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In the government meeting on Tuesday, Acting President of the NUG called on political parties not to take part in the junta election.
  • When reporting their activities to the public, Minister of Human Rights-NUG said that they would keep commitments to building a new nation of federal democracy with human rights, peace and justice until the victory of the Spring Revolution.
  • From 5 to 7 April, the General Assembly of National Labor Unions was conducted in Foggia in Italy. Reportedly, the Minister of Economics and Commerce-NUG delivered a speech there and discussed the current situation of Myanmar, human rights violations of the military junta, difficulties faced by workers and the oppression on labour unions.
  • According to local PDFs in Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, there are about 50 schools in some villages for the interim education under the guidance of the NUG.

Revolution Activities

  • At crowded places in Kalay, youth conducted movements against the junta water festival on Tuesday morning, calling for the public not to take part in it.
  • In Kani Township of Sagaing Region, Ko Bone Kant, Vice-Chair of local-based revolution force, died of injuries from a mine accident on Monday.
  • In Myinmu Township, Knight Commanders PDF (MMU) managed to produce pistols.
  • In Kalay Township, the junta armed forces were attacked with mines many times on Sunday and Monday. Reportedly, no less than 35 junta soldiers died.
  • In Yinmabin Township, junta soldiers and Pyusawti members set fire to 17 houses and domesticated animals in Bantbwe Tansin Village on Monday morning.
  • In Myothit Town, People's Defence Force - Combat Engineer Unit (PDF - CEU) conducted an attack on junta soldiers and Pyusawti members demanding money along the Tonekatin-Tonemana Road on Monday afternoon. Reportedly, weapons were confiscated.
  • In Pale Township of Sagaing Region and Myaing Township of Magwe Region, there were 9 battles between People Revolution Army – PRA and the junta armed forces invading 11 villages. Reportedly, 23 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • In Kantbalu Township, a combined force of PDFs attacked a Pyusawti camp in Pinttha Village at about 1:30 am Monday.
  • In Pale Township, local PDF conducted 4 attacks via drones on the junta army and Pyusawti in Zeephyugone Village on Monday morning.
  • In Wuntho Township, an alliance of PDFs has been attacking the camps of junta soldiers and Pyusawti members these days.
  • On Tuesday, a rally of Pale people marched against the water festival organized by the military junta.
  • In Ayadaw Township, a rally of villages, led by women wearing gumkino flowers, marched against the military dictatorship on Monday morning.
  • In Natogyi Township of Mandalay Region, a military truck was attacked with mines by local PDF near Ywagyi Village at about 8:00 am Tuesday. Reportedly, there might be casualties among junta soldiers.
  • On 60 Road amidst patrols of the junta armed forces, Mandala University Students’ Union marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday, hanging a banner against the junta water festival.
  • AFCC- Mandalay and Mandalay Strike Force called on the ICRC, embassies and ambassadors to help as Ko Thura Aung, a leader of the Mandalay Protest in detention by the military junta, is in danger for his life.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, a combined rally of women, LGBTs, youth and students marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning.
  • In Longlone Township, a woman was shot dead at a gambling event in Kyetyetdwin Village at about 3:30 pm Monday.
  • In Kanbauk Area of Yebyu Township, youth conducted an anti-junta movement on Tuesday morning, writing the text against the junta water festival on streets, bridges and lamp posts.
  • In Taninthayi Township, Htay Oo, allegedly Pyusawti leader in Nyaungbingwin Village, was shot dead on Monday night.
  • On Tuesday, Yangon youth conducted a ‘No-Thingyan’ movement against the junta water festival.
  • In South Okkalapa Township, Ba-Ka-Tha Students’ Union called on the public to take part in Revolution Thingyan on Tuesday morning.
  • In South Dagon Township, local guerrilla force threw a grenade and fired 6 gunshots at the house of U Yi Toe, administrator of Ward 72, at 7:49 pm Monday.
  • In Bahan Township, there were grenade attacks on Harry’s Bar at Myanmar Plaza at 4:00 pm Monday.
  • In North Dagon Myothit Township, there were explosions and ammunition fired on Monday night.
  • In Kunchangone Township, there was an attack with a 40mm grenade on junta soldiers taking security at the junta pandal in front of Myayi Nanda Park on Monday night. Reportedly, a junta soldier died.
  • In Hlaing Township, Hla Shu, the junta-appointed administrator of Ward 16, was shot dead on Monday night.
  • Regarding the case in which military officer Gaday Phyo Aung had been shot dead in Lammadaw Township on Sunday, no less than 6 people were arrested and ill-treated by the junta army.
  • In Hinthada of Ayeyarwaddy Region, there was a bomb explosion near Central Pandal at about 5:00 am Tuesday. Reportedly, a local PDF carried it out and had to cancel further action to avoid injuring people nearby.
  • In Ayeyarwaddy Region, a member of CDM Police Defence Force (CPDF) lost his life in a test of a hand-made mine.
  • In Bago District of Bago Region, there were bomb explosions at 5 places including gambling events, administration offices and a pandal. Reportedly, there were casualties among members of the junta armed forces.
  • In Saku of Magwe Region, the military junta arrested 6 people including a famous boxing player Tu Tu on Monday, accusing them of being PDF members for carrying weapons.
  • In Magwe, the junta army shot dead a young man and arrested two women.
  • In Pakkoku, the junta armed forces arrested 5 men staying at a house in Ward (11) at about 8:00 am Tuesday.
  • In Pauk Township, the junta army raided Kyauk-O-Gone Village at 5:45 pm Monday and set fire to the whole village.
  • In Hpakant of Kachin State, local people marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday. They also showed their support for the KIA, PDF and NUG.
  • General Strike Coordination Body and Myanmar Bankers’ Union jointly announced that they would continue to join hands in the fight against the military dictatorship until the victory of the revolution.
  • In Thingyan or Myanmar New Year, anti-junta artists will entertain the public with their art performance.
  • Octopus called on the public to stay at home for 4 days during Thingyan holidays and take part in a Click campaign.
  • In 10-day fund-raising activity for Dragonfly project, 2.2 million USD was collected, according to organizers.
  • Norway Embassy in Myanmar announced that they were together with Myanmar people amidst the current hardships and they believed that the New Year would bring blessings to the public.
  • On 9 April, there was a fund-raising event prior to Revolution Thingyan and the sale of NUG bonds organized by Myanmar Community of Tulsa in Oklahoma of the U.S.A. Reportedly, over 800 lakh MMK was collected.
  • On Monday, the U.S. Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that they stand with THE Myanmar people and they would carry out activities to hold the military junta accountable for the coup and violence.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In the west of Myawaddy in Karen State, a combined force of KNLA attacked a junta army camp in Thingan Nyinaung at 5:00 am Tuesday. Reportedly, some weapons were confiscated.
  • According to a spokesperson of the KNU, there might be ongoing battles in the Karen Area and the IDPs have been in urgent need of food.
  • In Laykaykaw New Town, PDF and KNLA found supposedly poison bombs, the ones dropped by the junta army in air strikes, in their clearance operation of the area.
  • In Pinlong Township of Shan South, KNDF conducted an attack on the junta inspection gate in Taungmethin Village on 5 April. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died.
  • According to Karenni People Defense Force – KPDF, one of their members named Sai Thet Paing Hein lost his life in the battle in Dimawso Township on Monday.
  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, KNDF arrested 5 drug dealers and users on Monday, and transferred them to Karenni State Police.
  • In Pinlebu Township of Sagaing Region, a combined force of KIA and PDF conducted attacks on the places where the junta armed forces had been stationing, including police stations, banks and hospitals. Reportedly, there were many casualties among junta soldiers.

The Military Council

  • According to the junta newspaper, the junta MRTV will broadcast live celebration of the water festival from all over the country.
  • In Thayet Township of Magwe Region, there were many casualties among soldiers from local-based armed forces in frontline battles. Reportedly, their families were not allowed to go out.
  • On Tuesday, the roads around Yangon City Hall Pandal were blocked off for the opening ceremony of the Thingyan Festival on Wednesday.
  • According to the junta YCDC, there would be performance by artists and musicians at the junta Yangon Central Pandal.
  • According to Mandalay Municipal Department, the opening ceremony of the junta mayor pandal would be held in Chanaye Thazan Township on Wednesday evening.
  • According to the junta media, the military junta arrested 18 people, who were involved in a robbery at KBZ Bank in South Okkalapa Township.
  • From 29 March to 9 April, there were battles against KIA and PDF in Pinlebu Township of Sagaing Region. According to the junta media, those members died and weapons were confiscated.
  • On Tuesday morning, there was a fire at the junta MPT headquarters in downtown area of Yangon.
  • The junta Myanmar Railway announced that they would reduce their services during the Thingyan holidays.

Summary on 12 April

  • The military junta forced the celebration of the water festival throughout the country. They persuaded the public to take part in it and instructed the junta staff to join it without fail. As for revolution forces, they called on the public not to participate in it.
  • In the areas with powerful revolution by PDFs and their alliances, the junta armed forces frequently used air strikes targeting civilians.
  • In the Thingyan period, the revolution against the military junta gained momentum both in urban and rural areas. On one hand, pro-military people were killed on a daily basis. On the other hand, the junta armed forces constantly committed lawless murders and arrests.
