The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 92 members of the junta armed forces had died, 36 others had been injured and 3 others had been caught alive on Tuesday.
  • The NUG announced that they had blacklisted and dismissed about 200 staff members of electricity departments under the junta Ministry of Electricity and Energy for threatening CDM staff, collecting electricity bills by force and helping with the operation of the military junta.
  • U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights-NUG, said that the military junta had been violating human rights systematically and in doing so, they had been committing murders like a military operation, not just killing by chance.
  • The NUG announced that they had blacklisted and dismissed 21 staff members of Minister Office (Culture) under the junta Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture for conducting a variety of oppression on CDM personnel.

Revolution Activities

  • Ma Hmu Yadana Tun, a journalist who had been knocked down by a car and arrested on Panbingyi Street, was brought to interrogation before she was fully recovered from her injuries.
  • In Yangon, a combined rally of Burmese Students’ Union, Burmese Young Poets’ Union, Public-based General Strike Committee and North Dagon Strike Committee representing the oppressed marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • In Sanchaung Township, a grenade was thrown near Gwa Market at about 8:00 am Wednesday. According to local residents, some members of the junta armed forces made an inspection there.
  • In North Dagon Township, there was gunfire in Ward (33) at about 2:10 pm Wednesday.
  • According to a focal person of a guerrilla force, they would increase their attacks on the junta armed forces and servants in Yangon, either by guerrilla methods or by military operations.
  • According to local sources, the junta army arrested civilian pedestrians in Yangon, made them wear army uniforms and conduct patrols.
  • On Wednesday, Phakant Underground Revolution Force announced that internet blackout in their township, which had started in 20 August 2021, was to be unveiled within 3 days.
  • As a 339-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday, holding anti-junta signs.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • In Budalin Township of Sagaing Region, a combined force of PDFs attacked Kudaw police camp. Reportedly, nearly 30 junta soldiers might have died.
  • As a 308-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • According to Chindwin Yoema Alliance, they managed to rescue 5 people, who had been arrested on 8 January, from Yinmabin Township police station on 11 January.
  • In the east of Monywa, B.E.H.S Maletha Students’ Union led a protest against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • In Wetlet Township, 7 Pyusawti members died due to mine attacks. Their dead bodies were collected by the junta armed forces, who were attacked with mines again. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died.
  • According to a Strike Committee, an anti-junta public talk was organized in Yinmabin Township the previous day.
  • In the east of Ayadaw Township, Thabyenyo Guerrilla Force shot 4 mortars into the junta army Sa-Ka-Ta Regiment (10) at about 6:00 am Wednesday.
  • In Dibeyin Township, local people conducted an anti-junta campaign themed ‘Fight together with Karenni State. Drive away the fascist dog’ on Wednesday.
  • In Katha Township, the junta army dropped bombs on Moetargyi village via 3 fighter jets at about 12:49 pm Wednesday. Reportedly, 6 houses and a religious hall were damaged with at least 5 casualties among the public.
  • In Tantsi Township, the junta armed forces have been stationing in Kyungle village since 20 December. According to local residents, over 20 houses were set on fire and the whole village had to run away.
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magwe Region, junta-appointed administrator Tin Koe and Pyusawti member Shwe Thee were shot by the junta army on Monday night. Reportedly, Shwe Thee died and another person had to receive medical treatment.
  • In Yesagyo Township, the junta army started to burn public’s houses in Yelegyun village on Wednesday morning.
  • In the north of Myaing Township, the junta armed forces arrested over 50 people taking refuge in the monastery compound of Latyetma village on Tuesday. Reportedly, they made these people wear army uniforms and went out towards the north of the village on Wednesday.
  • In Yesagyo Township, the junta army arrested a monk aged 50 from Wabo village with his hands being tied at the back, took him to Hlekoat village monastery and beat him.
  • In Aungmye Thazan Township of Mandalay Region, there was a grenade attack at Amara Htani west office and No. (4) police station at about 8:00 am Wednesday. Reportedly, a junta soldier died and another one was injured.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, a combined rally of youth and basic education students’ union protested against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • According to Longlone Township PDF, Thabautseit village administrator and Pyusawti leader, who had been earning money out of gambling activities against fishing boat workers, was cleared on Tuesday.
  • At about 11:00 am Wednesday, there was a fighting in Dauku Ward in Loikaw of Karenni State. According to local residents, junta soldiers conducted bomb explosions, in addition to firing ammunition.
  • In Hakha Township of Chin State, the house of U Yan Man, MP of Chin National League for Democracy, was sealed off.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • On 3rd January, there was an event on completion of the training with Burma people for the first time throughout the history of Free Burma Rangers – FBR, led by a former special member of the US Army. Reportedly, it was attended by upcountry Burma people, Rakhine, Kayin, Kachin, Pao, Shan and Burma from Dawei.
  • To the statement to 59th Ta’ang National Revolution Day on Wednesday, AA and MNDAA stated that they would keep their cooperation in military and political affairs.
  • On Tuesday morning, KA and KNDF conducted an attack on the junta army camp in Matsalaung mountain in Karenni State. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers may have died.
  • In Loikaw fighting on Tuesday, the military junta lost 20 members. According to KNDF, some weapons were confiscated and 3 junta soldier deserters were caught alive.
  • According to Mutraw Newsletter, the KNLA attacked the junta armed forces five times on Monday and Tuesday. Reportedly, 10 junta soldiers died and a military car was damaged.
  • Due to an air strike by the junta army on Wednesday morning, a building in Letupho Area was destroyed.
  • In Chin State, there were battles between CDFs and the junta armed forces between Mindat and Matupi townships, and near Waibula town on Tuesday. Reportedly, 22 junta soldiers died.
  • In Dwelo Township, the junta army dropped bombs via 2 fighter jets at 1:05 am Wednesday. Reportedly, local clinics were damaged.

The Military Council

  • Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced that there would still be power outage at the peak hours of electricity use due to an ongoing decrease in 970 MW.
  • In Heho of Kalaw Township in Shan South, a captain conducted a bomb explosion and opened gunfire as he did not want to go to the frontline. However, he was transferred to Pekone on Kayah border the following day.
  • U Thein Soe, junta-appointed chair of UEC, said that they would hold a free and fair election or an election free from bias.
  • The junta Ayeyarwaddy regional chief minister supported 30 lakh MMK to those who had caught two men throwing a hand-made bomb in Doh Amyotha Electronics in Kyaunggone Township.
  • According to the junta newspaper, there was an opening ceremony of the new building of state director office under Ministry of Ethnic Affairs in Myitgyina on Wednesday morning.

Summary on 12 January

  • In Karenni, Kayin and Sagaing, the junta armed forces have been conducting attacks on civilians via fighter jets and helicopters. In Sagaing, they killed people just as they saw them. The whole upcountry villages had to run away if local people heard that the junta army entered their villages.
  • It is such a funny joke that the military junta with mismanagement in every sector would claim that they would hold a free and fair election.
  • In Yangon, revolution forces announced that they would increase guerrilla warfare activities. Therefore, the public should stay alert to such activities.
