The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Wednesday, the NUG Minister of Foreign Affairs was in Washington D.C to meet with the US and ASEAN Foreign Ministers for a discussion about Myanmar.
  • According to RFA, there will be a meeting between the Malaysian Foreign Minister and the NUG Minister of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.
  • On Wednesday, the Ministry of Federal Affairs made it clear that their federal newsletter was not the one featuring NUG policies.
  • On Thursday, committees representing state and regional parliaments released a joint statement objecting to the military junta’s efforts to hold an illegal election with no one involved.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Oatpho Township in Bago Region, a local PDF assassinated a junta-appointed administrator and a 100-household leader at about 6:00 pm Wednesday.
  • In Bogale Township in Ayeyarwaddy Region, U Mg Myint, allegedly a Pyu Saw Htee leader in Kyaungsu Village, was shot at about 8:00 pm on Thursday.
  • On their 428 th day of protest, a combined rally of people from Salingyi and Yinmabin villages in Sagaing Region marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday, holding anti-junta signs.
  • In Shwebo Township, a rally of villagers marched for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • Somewhere in Monywa, youths led a march on Thursday morning, raising a banner with Spring Revolution slogans.
  • Southeast of Shwebo Township, the junta armed forces set fire to villages on Thursday morning. Consequently, about 400 houses were burnt to ashes and local people had to run away.
  • In Khin-U Township, a troop of 60 junta soldiers set fire to Karseit Village at about 6:00 am Thursday. Reportedly, they also arrested some villagers.
  • According to the Black Dragon Special Task Force, three road sections in Monywa were temporarily closed starting from Wednesday morning.
  • In Tamu, Pyu Saw Htee members killed a civilian and discarded the dead body in Pame Stream on the India-Myanmar border on 10 May.
  • On Wednesday, Khin-U PDF announced that over 100 local people had been killed, 40 villages had been set on fire and more than 1000 houses had been destroyed by junta armed forces over the period of one year.
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta army raided Nabudaw Village on Wednesday. Reportedly, they shot dead a villager named Ko Aung Tun and set fire to six houses.
  • On the night of 10 May, a military car was attacked with mines on the Salingyi-Yinmabin Road. According to a local PDF, a military officer died in the incident.
  • In Pale Township, a local PDF attacked junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members in Zeephyugone Village at about 11:00 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, about 20 members of the junta armed forces might have died.
  • In Mawlu Township, illegal drugs were confiscated near Malu Village and they were set on fire, according to a member of Tiger Army.
  • In Minhla Township in Bago Region, junta police and Pyu Saw Htee members, who had been demanding money from an illegal logging businesses in Samboat Village, were assassinated, according to a local PDF on Wednesday.
  • In an interview with Yangon Khit Thit, the leader of Dark Shadow said that their whole group had escaped from the military junta in Yangon and that they had taken part in the Cobra Operation.
  • In Bazundaung Township of Yangon Region, a grenade was thrown at the NLD office at about 4:00 pm Thursday. Reportedly, it exploded during the junta army’s clearance of the area.
  • On Wednesday morning, a sergeant from the junta Navy Headquarters in Thanlyin Township was shot.
  • In Hlaingthaya Township, an alliance of PDFs conducted a bomb attack on the township electricity office on the Yangon to Pathein Road at about 8:00 pm on Wednesday.
  • On Wednesday, Mandalay youths expressed their objection to the military dictatorship by stepping over photos of the junta leaders; Min Aung Hlaing, Soe Win and Zaw Min Tun.
  • In Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region, youths protested against the military dictatorship on Thursday, holding signs in support of the revolution.
  • In Magwe Region, Tilin PDF announced that on Thursday that they would demolish all telecom towers if internet access was not again available within a month.
  • According to Pakkoku PDF, there was a military performance in commemoration of their one-year anniversary on Thursday.
  • On Wednesday, Mobye PDF carried out a campaign against buying and selling junta army products.
  • In Muse Township in Shan North, up to 16 junta soldiers from Ka-Ma-Ya (241) died in battle on 4 May, according to the People Security And Defence Army – PSDA on Wednesday.
  • According to Shan Youth's Federal Democratic Army (SYFDA-Rangers), they arrested a member of the junta armed forces working as security at the Play House Bar' Club in Taunggyi in Shan south after they warned that they would bomb the venue if it did not shut down.
  • According to the Shan Youth's Federal Democratic Army (SYFDA-Rangers) based in Taunggyi on Wednesday, they formed an alliance with an underground revolution force based in Nyaungshwe Township.
  • According to the Shan Human Rights Organization on Wednesday, 10 local people were killed by the junta army within three months and over 800 residents of four villages had to run away.
  • On Thursday, the Pindaya Urban Guerrillas announced that they would keep an eye on and target police officer Kyaw Swa Win.
  • In Loikaw Township in Karenni State, PDF snipers shot at the junta army stationing on Kayan Thaya divergent point on Thursday morning. Reportedly, a junta soldier died.
  • According to a spokesperson from Cobra Troop, 15 soldiers out of those who had deserted the junta armed forces have joined them and have been fighting back against junta soldiers together with them.
  • According to the French Embassy on Wednesday, the European Union- EU extended its sanctions on those involved in the military coup for one more year.
  • Justice for Myanmar claimed that ASEAN was involved in inhumane military junta crimes in Myanmar.
  • On Wednesday, Myeik District PDF Brigade (2) warned that local people and passengers were to be careful on the Myeik-Taninthayi-Mawtaung road section due to the likelihood of fighting there.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • On Thursday, the RCSS announced that they would send their delegation to the peace discussions in order to help solve the current political crisis.
  • According to a spokesperson of KNU Brigade (5), members of the junta Border Guard Force have been leaving Mutraw District in Kayin State under the control of KNU Brigade (5) as there could be airstrikes by the junta army in the area.
  • In Kyaukgyi Township in Bago Region, the junta army shot a 60mm grenade from a drone towards the front of the monastery in Innet Village at about 5:00 pm on Tuesday. According to the KNU on Thursday, a child aged 8 was hit in the incident.
  • In Kalay in Sagaing Region, there were attacks on three stations of the junta armed forces posts. According to CNDF on Thursday, seven junta soldiers died and five others were injured.
  • On Thursday morning, a Karenni Combined Force attacked the junta army camp in Tiri Village in Mobye on the Shan-Karenni border. Reportedly, five junta soldiers, including an officer, were caught alive.

The Military Council

  • According to Myanmar Association of Oil Traders and Businesses, the junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce instructed them not to use the reserves from edible oil tanks without the junta’s permission to prevent shortages of edible oil in the country.
  • The junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce announced that the export of oil crops such as groundnuts and sesame was suspended, starting from 9 May.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the junta basic education schools would accept enrollments from students for the 2022-23 academic year from 26 May to 1 June.
  • The military junta announced that two abbots and three men from Myaing and Pakkoku townships in Magwe Region had been arrested and killed within two days.
  • According to military sources, the wives of staff members working for the junta Ministry of Home Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw would have to attend a one-month basic military training from 16 May to 10 June.
  • According to sources from higher education, very few students enrolled at the junta universities and colleges which will reopen on Thursday.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Ma Aye Aye Aung won the first medal in Kurash in the SEA Games.
  • In Tandabin Township in Bago Region, Tun Tun Win, a drunk policeman from Zayatgyi Police Station, fired his gun wildly at about 8:30 pm on Wednesday. Reportedly, Mg Myo Myat Tun, a boy aged 14 from a house near the police station, was hit with a bullet and died on the spot.

Summary on 13 May

  • In recent days, clearance activities by the junta forces were on the rise. On the other hand, the junta armed forces faced great losses on a daily basis due to the PDFs. If there was more finance and weapons PDFs would be able to fight and take control of urban area.
  • As for the NUG, it made some progress in its efforts to be recognised by the international community. Reportedly, the NUG Minister of Foreign Affairs was in the US to meet with the US and ASEAN Foreign Ministers. The public will have to watch if the meeting will bring any changes.
  • In Karenni State, PDFs and local ethnic armed forces became powerful and they were even in a position to conduct higher-level offensive attacks as well as defensive ones.
  • The same was true for Sagaing Region and Chin State.
