Spring Revolution Daily News for 14 May 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • For emergency response to the Cyclone Mocha, the Commission on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response- NUG conducted a meeting on Saturday morning. Reportedly, they decided the allocation of a fund worth $1 million for the humanitarian activities. 
  • The NUG warned the public from the areas with the most risks of the Cyclone Mocha to move to safe places as soon as possible. Those areas include Sittway (Sittwe), Kyauk Phyu, Myay Bone, Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Yathay Taung and Anh. 
  • In an interview with RFA, the Minister of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management-NUG stated that they have been cooperating with Rakhine Revolution Forces for Rakhine people to respond to Cyclone Mocha. 
  • On Saturday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs-NUG announced that they would invite assistance from outside of ASEAN as the ASEAN leaders were not able to deal with Myanmar’s affairs. 
  • There will be a round-table discussion between the Union Minister of Human Rights-NUG and Myanmar people in Australia. 
  • The NUG announced on Saturday that the junta army had committed a massacre of 18 people including children from Tandabin Township in Taungoo District of Bago Region and Nyaung Lin Thar Village in Lwegyu District of Kayin State. 
  • According to Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw, the MP from Kalay proposed the end of war crimes and crimes against humanity at the special session of Union Parliament on 8 May. 
  • Ministry of Women, Youth and Children-NUG announced that the case of child sexual violence had happened in Thailand and thus, it would be handled by the cooperation of responsible personnel. They added that they had done so with the focus on international laws and the desire of the victim. 
  • At 1:00 pm Friday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Naga ethnic leaders. 
  • In cooperation with the NUG, the People’s Defence and Support Forces issued the ‘dos and don’ts’ for local people in the battles throughout the country due to the military coup. 
  • The European Parliament condemned the abolishment of political parties in Myanmar and made a decision related to Myanmar (2023/ 2694 RSP). Regarding it, the CRPH expressed their support and thanks to the European Parliament on Friday. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Ayadaw Township of Sagaing Region, anti-junta youth protested against the military dictatorship on Saturday morning. 
  • In Monywa, there was an attack on the junta army stationed in the Economic University at about 1:30 pm Friday. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Shwebo Township, there was a mine attack on junta troops on their way out for mine clearance operations on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta army shot dead 5 local people including a child aged 6 on Thursday morning. They also took away more than 200 lakh MMK from Nabudaw Monastery and the IDPs. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta army raided Tanzin Village on Friday morning. Reportedly, a four-month-old baby was hit with a bullet and his mother lost her life. 
  • In Khin-U Township, there was a battle between the PDF and the junta armed forces burning local villages. Reportedly, 11 junta soldiers including 2 officers died. 
  • In Wuntho Township, there was a battle in Taungbola Village on Thursday. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers died whereas a local PDF lost a member. 
  • In Kantbalu District, the junta army set fire to no less than 178 houses from 8 villages and arrested 11 people from 1 to 12 May. 
  • The IDPs from Sagaing, Magwe and Chin will have to face the impacts of the Cyclone Mocha. However, they have been more concerned about the danger of the military junta. 
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army arrested 50 people from Nyaungzin Village for no apparent reason on Wednesday. Reportedly, they also shot dead a man preparing for his wedding reception. 
  • In Magwe Region, Gantgaw People’s Administration announced that there could be heavy rain, strong winds, floods and landslides following the Cyclone Mocha. 
  • In Pauk Township, there was an attack via sniper on junta troops on patrol at about 10:00 am Thursday. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died. 
  • According to the sources of Mandalay Monks’ Union, Bamaw Monastery drove away a monk, who had been imprisoned for anti-junta protests and released from prison, with the excuse that he had defamed the dignity of the monastery. 
  • In Hinthada of Ayeyarwady Region, there was a bomb explosion in front of the railway office on Friday morning. Reportedly, the junta army arrested 6 railway staff. 
  • In Swa of Bago Region, U Than Myaing, a junta hundred-household leader of Shan Village, was shot dead on Friday night. 
  • In Mon State, the staff from Kyaik Mayaw Prison have been taking part in bribery and exploitation. They have also been demanding money by force from political prisoners. 
  • The alliance of the DRPDN supported nutritious meat and vegetables to the IDPs. 
  • The Click to Donate (C2D), a fund-raising team supporting the revolution, has been conducting a campaign for 1,000 lakh MMK within 10 days. 
  • The Explosive Ordnance Risk Education in Myanmar stated that the public needs to be careful as the landmines and other weapons in the old battlefield might be moved from the original places due to heavy rain, floods and landslides following the Cyclone Mocha. 
  • The General Strike Coordination Committee sent an open letter to the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party on Saturday. It stated that China still needs to know more about the Spring Revolution in Myanmar. 
  • In Daegu of South Korea, Dague Sayardaw led an anti-junta protest on Saturday. 
  • On Thursday, the European Parliament made a decision condemning the abolishment of 40 political parties in Myanmar, violent activities of the junta armed forces and the illegitimate military rule. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, there were bomb attacks via drone on Wawlei Myein strategic point and police station at about 9:00 am Thursday. According to the KNDO, there were about 20 casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • In Mone Township under Karen National Union (KNU), the junta army arrested, ill-treated and burnt 19 people to death in Nyaungbintha Village. 
  • In Hakha Township of Chin State, Chin National Army and Local CDF got some weapons, dropped by the junta helicopters for their forces, in early May. 
  • In Kawthoolei Administrative Area under the KNU, the junta army committed no less than 310 human rights violations in April. 

The Military Council 

  • In the meeting in Kyaingtone of Shan State (East), the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing claimed that the State would provide loans to those who would like to do local livestock businesses. 
  • The junta National Committee on Natural Disaster Risks Management declared the red status for 7 townships in Rakhine State, which have high risks of facing the Cyclone Mocha. 
  • According to the junta Oil Enterprise Association, they have already prepared for no shortage of edible oil in storm-hit areas. 
  • According to the junta Weather Department at 2:00 pm Saturday, the highest wind power of the Cyclone Mocha could be 125 miles per hour. 
  • The military junta announced that their rescue vehicles have been going to the areas which are at risk of the Cyclone Mocha. 
  • On Friday, the military junta released Private Education Law with tighter rules while increasing the amount of fine and prison sentence. 
  • In Nay Pyi Taw, the military junta and the Municipal Department have forced monasteries to be demolished. They have also threatened that there would be legal action to those failing to do so. 
  • In Phyapone Township of Ayeyarwady Region, local people from Outgwin Village have had to demolish their houses as the junta army has claimed that the houses are on the land owned by the military. 
  • In Hpakant and Karmai of Kachin State, the military junta has been spreading brochures containing a financial offers to the armed groups including the PDFs to defect to them along with weapons. 
  • In Hakha Township of Chin State, the junta army Regiment (77) broke into the houses in Marlsam Village and took away the public’s belongings. 

Summary on 13 May 

  • The Cyclone Mocha could hit the areas with the most IDPs such as Sagaing, Magwe and Chin. For local residents, they have to face the impacts of the storm, in addition to the invasion and massacres of the junta troops. 
  • The NUG decided that they would make an effort to get assistance from outside of the ASEAN as the Association is not able to deal with Myanmar’s affairs. It is worth welcoming.
