The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In a government meeting on Tuesday, the NUG Acting President claimed that it is not possible to break the public’s revolutionary spirit.
  • In Washington D.C in the United States, Derek Chollet, a US Foreign Department consultant, came to the NUG Office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday. He then discussed with the NUG Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the NUG Minister of Communication to provide assistance to Myanmar.
  • In the 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN U Kyaw Moe Tun stated that the military junta has carried out over 60 mass murders within two years and such cases are crimes against humanity.
  • According to the Spring University, on Monday it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a public university in the United States to become partner institutes.
  • On 8 March, the NUG opened the Spring Film Academy to assist the interim education and support the revolution via the arts.
  • In Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces have been coming into the area and burning villages. According to Local People’s Administration on Monday, they conducted basic training in fire-fighting.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region, a rally of villagers marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • On Tuesday morning, a rally from Yin Mar Bin North marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta army arrested two PDF members on watch duty near Thanbo Village on Monday morning. They then killed them by cutting off their heads.
  • In Pale, PDFs conducted a surprise attack on the junta army on mobile patrol in the town at about 8:00 am on Monday.
  • In Wetlet, there was a mortar attack on the junta’s Pyu Saw Htee Training in Shwe Hlan Bo Football Ground at about 9:00 am on Monday.
  • In Myaung Township, the junta army set fire to a camp of the MSPDF on Monday morning. They then continued their violent activities in the area. Consequently, local people had to run away.
  • In Yangon Region, there was an anti-junta movement on Tuesday on the second anniversary of the junta’s violent crackdown on the Hlaingthaya Township General Strike.
  • In Madayar Township in Mandalay Region, Kyaw Naing Oo; a local immigration officer and an advocate for the Pyu Saw Htee, was shot dead near Wayindote Village at about 10:00 am on Tuesday.
  • In Madayar Township, there was a mine attack on the junta army at the bridge between Mway Hintha Village and Mway Kyigone Village at about 12:00 pm on Monday. Reportedly, eight junta soldiers died. In response, the junta army arrested and killed no less than eight local people.
  • In Pyigyi Dagun Township, the junta army opened fire and arrested the abbot of Aungmye Dagun Monestary (alias) Waw Sayardaw at about 7:00 pm on Sunday, accusing him of supporting PDFs.
  • In Mindone Township in Magwe Region the junta inspection camps on the side of Pathein-Monywa Road were attacked with drones and 40mm grenades at about 6:00 am on Tuesday.
  • In Pauk Township a junta inspection gate was attacked on Monday evening. Reportedly, a junta policeman was injured.
  • In the northern part of Pauk Township, the junta armed forces have invaded 10 villages since 10 March. Reportedly, they have arrested more than 12 local residents to use as human shields.
  • In Kyankhine Township in Ayeyarwady Region, a local rally protested against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning, holding signs saying: ’The final destination for Min Aung Hlaing is the gallows’.
  • In Hpakant in Kachin State, the junta army arrested seven men from Hmaw Wan Ward on Monday afternoon, accusing them of supporting PDFs.
  • The Anti-Coup Committee- Korea donated 1000 lakh won to the Kawthoolei Army to help end the military dictatorship in Myanmar and for the establishment of federal democracy.
  • According to the One Day Challenge on Monday, it donated 289 lakh MMK to 19 PDFs in February.
  • In Milan in Italy, there was a prayer event along with a Flash Mob in commemoration of Myanmar’s Human Rights Day on 13 March, the day Industrial University student Ko Phone Maw was killed.
  • The UK’s Ambassador to the United Nations stated that Myanmar has become the nation with the second-largest number of civilian casualties in the world and that Myanmar people have been facing devastating hardships.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • According to the communication officer of the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLO), they would identify those who had committed the mass murder in the monastery compound of Nang Name Village in Pinlaung Township under Pa-O Self-Administration in Shan South and bring them to justice.
  • On Tuesday, Pa-O Civil Society Organisations strongly condemned the mass murder by the junta army in Nang Name Village in Pinlaung Township in Shan South.
  • On Tuesday, the Shan South Local Revolution Union announced that they had been fighting local battles, not for racial or religious reasons, but against the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing for arresting and killing the public.
  • In Pekone Township in Shan South, there was fighting in a valley in Kuyin Village Tract on Sunday and Monday. Reportedly, 19 junta soldiers including officers died and six others were caught alive.
  • In Mobye on the border of Shan and Kayah there was a battle between the junta army and a combined force of PDFs + KNDF B03 on Sunday evening. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died and the revolutionary forces lost three members. According to a local PDF, the junta army also killed two old people and a Grade (7) student.
  • In Tamu Township in Sagaing Region, the All Burma Students' Democratic Front (ABSDF) conducted a guerrilla attack on junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members leaving Kuntaung Camp at about 8:00 am on Tuesday.
  • According to a representative of the Chin National Front, a large number of the junta armed forces have been invading strategic locations in the northern and southern Chin State. As a result, there might be constant fighting.
  • In Hpapun District under control of Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (5), the KNLA attacked the junta army camps. According to the Mutraw Newsletter, six junta soldiers died in four days.
  • On Tuesday, the Ta’ang Political Consultative Council stated that the junta’s attempt to hold elections would not resolve the crisis of Myanmar.

The Military Council

  • On Monday, the military junta stated that they had appointed a Chief Justice and two judges for the Kayah State Court.
  • On Monday, there was a meeting between the junta’s Deputy Prime Minister, the junta Minister of Planning and Finance, and the Russian Congress Investment Fund in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • According to the junta Union Election Commission, two political parties applied for registration on Monday.
  • According to the junta Communication Department, they will block outgoing calls, outgoing short messages and the use of data for unregistered SIM cards.
  • In a meeting with the Director of the Russian Congress Investment Fund, the junta Minister of Hotels said that perfect tours would be arranged for Russian tourists to Myanmar.
  • On Monday, there was a coordination meeting to hold Walking Thingyan in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • To make Mandalay Thingyan crowded, the military junta has been trying to persuade the public to attend by booking artists to perform.
  • In Thandwe in Rakhine State, Khin Yi, the Chair of the military’s proxy Union Solidarity and Development Party, met with former members and local youths on Monday.
  • According to the junta newspapers, PDFs threw Molotov cocktails at the Forestry Department in Pale in Sagaing Region on Monday morning. Reportedly, staff housing was burnt down.
  • In Monywa Township, the junta army confiscated a local PDF’s. temporary camp near Aungtha Village on Monday evening.
  • According to junta propaganda newspapers, PDFs used drones to bomb the Township Electricity Office and Township General Administration Department in Natogyi in Mandalay Region on Monday morning. As a result, a member of the junta staff died and three others were injured.

Summary on 15 March

  • There have been heavy battles on the border of Shan and Karenni states. Reportedly, the junta armed forces have suffered great losses and many injuries. In response, they have been killing local people.
  • To make this year’s Thingyan crowded, the military junta has been trying to persuade the public in various ways. In the previous two years, there were very few people who took part in their celebrations.
