The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Reportedly, there was a meeting between Daw Zin Mar Aung, Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG, and Rob Berschinski, Special Assistance to the US President- Director for Democracy & Human Rights.
  • Minister of Human Rights- NUG said that threats to freedom and democracy tend to begin with doing harms to those safeguarding such things, free mechanisms and legal protections, and that the military junta has been playing according to such script.
  • According to Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation- NUG on Sunday, they would connect with international universities for the scholars nurtured in the interim if they would like to do post-graduate study there.
  • On Rakhine National Day which fell on Sunday, the NUG wished Rakhine ethnic people health of body and peace of mind.
  • Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) announced that they would carry out supplementary learning as a remedy, which would make children get ready to learn in the grades relevant to their ages.
  • On the 9 th Rakhine National Day, the NUG sent a statement with best wishes for the success of efforts to end all forms of dictatorship, including the military one, and build a true federal democracy union.
  • On Rakhine National Day, Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) sent a statement that they would join hands with all ethnic people in building a federal union of the future via lessons learned from the past. They also wished Rakhine people fulfillment of their national aspiration as soon as possible.

Revolution Activities

  • In Daejeon of South Korea, there was a protest against the military dictatorship. Reportedly, it was joined by Daegu Sayardaw and Shwewayaung Sayardaw (Norway), who had anti-junta talks.
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army raided Hnawyoe Village on Sunday morning and shot dead a villager named Ko Aung Zaw Thein.
  • As a 431-day protest, a powerful rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Sunday, holding signs- 'Please! Sanction MOGE'.
  • In Myinmu Township, a military convoy was attacked with mines by a local PDF on Saturday. Reportedly, 2 military trucks were damaged, 18 junta soldiers died and 10 others were seriously injured.
  • In Khin-U Township and Yinmabin Township, the junta armed forces were hit with mines on Sunday morning. According to local PDFs, there were casualties among junta soldiers.
  • In Shwebo Township, a rally of villagers marched against the military dictatorship on Sunday, chanting anti-junta slogans. They also showed their support for the NUG.
  • At a market in Monywa, youth expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship, raising an anti-junta banner and calling for public’s participation in the revolution.
  • In a village of Monywa Township, there was a powerful march against the military dictatorship on Sunday.
  • In the south of Kalay Township, local PDF Brigade (4) had to let go of their base camp due to air strikes and battles on land by the junta armed forces.
  • In North Okkalapa Township of Yangon Region, students led a march against the military dictatorship on Sunday.
  • Somewhere in Yangon, a combined rally of youth and students conducted an anti-junta movement with a banner- ‘With the power of rebels, the throne of Fascists will be broken’.
  • In Pyin Oo Lwin of Mandalay Region, May Myo protesters hung an anti-junta banner at the traffic police office amidst tight security measures on Sunday.
  • In Chanaye Thazan Township, one of the junta hundred-household leaders was shot dead at 8:40 am Sunday. Reportedly, he died on the spot.
  • In Dawei Township of Taninthayi Region, a combined force of PDFs attacked Kyaukmetaung Police Station at about 9:20 am Saturday. After exchanges of fire, a PDF member lost his life.
  • In Ngaputaw Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, some soldiers ran away from the junta army stationing in Tikesun Area. Reportedly, other junta soldiers have been combing the area in search of them.
  • In Ywangan Township and Pindaya Township of Shan South, Daw Ma Ma Lay, one of the MPs of National Parliament, and her son were arrested by the junta army at about 10:00 pm Saturday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Kachin State, administration offices of Kachin Independent Organization- KIO released announcements calling on staff members of the junta ministries to resign from their service.
  • In Taungoo District under Karen National Union- KNU Brigade (2), KNLA (6) announced that the junta armed forces were to leave 3 local camps by 17 May at the latest.
  • In Tandabin Township of Bago Region, two captains from the junta army Regiment (84) were arrested by KNLA and PDF on the evening of 7 May. Reportedly, they were shot dead as they had tried to run away.

The Military Council

  • The junta Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed their strong objection to the meeting between the NUG and responsible personnel of the US Foreign Department.
  • On the evening of Kasone Full Moon Day, the junta leader and his wife took part in the 14 th Banyan Tree Watering Ceremony at Uppatasanti Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw. 
  • Reportedly, the junta Deputy Minister of Labour inspected Golden Shine Garment Assessment Center in Hleku Township of Yangon Region for certificates on work skills of national garment sector.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the delegation led by the junta Health Minister has been joining the 15 th ASEAN Meeting of Health Ministers and related ones.
  • In the ASEAN Meeting of Health Ministers in Indonesia, the junta Minister of Health met with Thailand Health Minister.

Summary on 15 May

  • The relations between the NUG and international leaders put pressure on the military junta, which had to release statements with condemnation against them. The junta media also stated proudly that the junta Health Minister had been attending the ASEAN Meeting in Indonesia, which would bring no political effect. Supposedly, they might lose opportunity to join even such kinds of meeting later.
  • KNU warned the junta armed forces to leave the areas under their control. In the past, the military junta used to respond to such warnings at once. However, the junta armed forces have to lie low now. Judging from that, they might have fewer forces.
  • In Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces have been conducting heavy invasion on a daily basis. In addition to air strikes at the time of their loss, they have been setting fire to villages, robbing of things and killing local people. As for the public, they should contribute as much as possible to Sagaing PDFs.
