The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Following the right to self-defence, the public has been taking part in the People’s Defensive War. According to the NUG, up to 69 members of the junta armed forces died and 15 others were injured on Monday.
  • U Yi Mon, Minister of Defence- NUG, said that it was the civil war in terms of strategy and the revolution based on the public’s support. The military junta had difficulties as they had to face the battlefield all over the country.
  • U Yi Mon, Minister of Defence- NUG, said that PDF and alliances managed to control and influence a lot of rural areas and the military junta was just the administration team on television.
  • CSO Working Committee on Reforming Myanmar Human Rights Commission submitted the bill of Union Human Rights Commission (UHRC) to NUCC, CRPH and the NUG.
  • The NUG announced that Karenni National Defence Force (KNDF) was the people’s defence force in Karenni State and they were in cooperation and recognized by the Ministry of Defence- NUG.

Revolution Activities

  • On Tuesday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • In Yinmabin East of the Sagaing Region, local residents of a village marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • As a 310-day protest, Kalay people marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Minkin Township, the junta army set fire to three villages and set mines in the area. According to local residents, two people lost their hands and legs due to those mines.
  • In Dibeyin Township, the junta armed forces were stationed in the compound of the monastery in Boat Village for two days. Reportedly, they killed an elderly man named U Hlaing by burning him alive.
  • As a 279-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Latbadaung Area of Salingyi Township, onion growers protested against the military dictatorship on their farm on Tuesday, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • In Kani Township, local PDFs conducted attacks with mortars and mines at the junta army vessels stranded in Chindwin River near Inlechaung Village. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers might die.
  • In Tantsi Township, the junta army was attacked with mines by local people’s force. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died and 7 others were injured.
  • In Yinmabin Township, there was a dawn strike against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • According to local guerrilla forces, three military trucks were attacked with mines on Ayadaw-Monywa Road on Sunday and Monday.
  • In Monywa, Ko Chantha Moe, allegedly junta informer in Nandawun Ward, was shot dead.
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magwe Region, a military convoy was attacked with mines from Kyunchaung-Seikphyu to Yaw Area. On Monday night, MC-KC PDF announced that a military truck was damaged and there were casualties among junta soldiers.
  • In Yangon, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning.
  • According to an emergency statement by Ba-Ka-Tha Central, students in detention at Yangon Insein Prison joined the silent strike on 10th December and they were harshly beaten and kept in solitary confinement due to hunger strike.
  • In Hmawbi Township, a military convoy, containing 2 junta-appointed Yangon Regional Ministers, was attacked by Hmawbi Youths Army at about 1:20 pm Tuesday.
  • In Hlaingthaya Township, there were explosions at a hostel in Ward (12) on Monday evening. According to local residents, 3 young people were arrested by the junta army after the incident.
  • In Pha-Kant of Kachin State, local people marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday. They also showed their support for KIA, PDF and NUG.
  • At about 11:00 am Tuesday, the military junta sealed off two houses owned by U Win Naing, an MP who had won in the 2020 election, in Nammati of Moekaung Township.
  • According to local residents of Dawei District, the junta armed forces tend to station in monasteries for their military operation. If they are not allowed to do so, they arrest monks or confiscate the cars owned by the monasteries.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, youth protested against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Thaton of Mon State, local a guerrilla force attacked with mortars at Mayawwi camp of the junta army at about 8:00 pm Monday.

The Military Council

  • Deputy Major General Moe Myint Tun, chair of Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC), announced that imports of raw materials for alcohol, beer, cigarette, and motor vehicles as well as imports of sugar would apply for permission at MIC first and then at trade department and revenue department.
  • According to Central Committee of Myanmar Gems Fair, the junta Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation would organize the sale of jade and pearls for the second time.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that the agreement had been signed for direct payment of Myanmar Kyats to the currencies of Thailand, China and India.
  • Ko Soe Naing, a freelance photographer and graphic designer in Yangon, had been arrested on 10th December while he had been out for recording the silent strike. According to his associates and family members, he died in the investigation.
  • Dr. Thet Thet Khine, the junta minister of social welfare, said that ways to deal with conflicts and social harmony subjects had been included in the curriculum for the Myanmar disaster response team.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that students with high marks in English, Biology and Chemistry would be allowed to take the entrance exam of medical university and they could attend it with scholarships. They must also serve the country for at least 10 years.
  • At the meeting, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi was allowed to meet with her lawyers freely and thus, she might have known about CRPH and the NUG and she had the right to give remarks via the lawyers.
  • In Myawaddy District, the junta army entered Laykaykaw Myo Thit under the control of KNU Regiment (6) starting from 8:00 pm Tuesday. Reportedly, they made an inspection there and arrested no less than 20 people.

Summary on 15th December

  • The military junta has been carrying out various methods to gain taxes from businesses. They also arranged for the second sales of gems to get foreign currency. They seem to be in the deficit.
  • The military junta very much wanted to show off as if they could rule economic, social, political and military affairs. They might consider silent strike as a disgrace to them. On that day, they arrested a photographer, who would make the real situation of Yangon known, and killed him in the investigation.
  • The junta armed forces had a great loss in Sagaing Region and Chin State. Therefore, they changed their strategy and invaded Laykaykaw Myothit under the control of KNU, thinking that it would be the base of the NUG. They also arrested MPs, CDM staff and the public. Although KNU had no response for the moment there might be battles due to the invasion of the junta armed forces.
  • As for Yangon, they had great momentum in the revolution as usual. However, revolution activities decreased in Mandalay as a lot of young PDF members were shot dead and their leaders were arrested.
