Spring Revolution Daily News for 16 April 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Regarding the air attack on Pazigyi Village, the NUG will conduct a press conference on 16 April and it will be broadcast live on the PVTV, Radio NUG and some media outlets. 
  • At 9:00 am on Friday, there was a meeting (15/2023) between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and People’s Administration Teams from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region. 
  • In his radio speech to the PDFs, the Minister of Defence-NUG claimed that the military junta had deliberately carried out airstrikes on Pazigyi as it was an anti-junta village. 

Revolution Activities 

  • The US stated that Myanmar’s military junta must be held accountable for turning a blind eye to human rights and international laws as well as for their airstrikes, violent activities and violations of human rights. 
  • The labour unions and the human rights organizations called on the European Union (EU) to stop a new project in the garment sector in cooperation with the military junta. 
  • In Natoegyi of Mandalay Region, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army stationed near the immigration office. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Taninthayi Region, the teachers at the interim public’s schools conducted the revolution Thingyan on the third day of the water festival. 
  • In Ingapu Township of Ayeyarwady Region, there was a bomb explosion at the Central Pandal at 7:45 am Saturday. Reportedly, two members of the junta police and a junta soldier were seriously injured. 
  • In Thanphyu Zayat Township of Mon State, the Revolutionary Force for Justice blew up mines near the downtown pandal and in front of the military cemetery. 
  • In Taninthayi Township of Taninthayi Region, there were local battles between the junta army and a combined force of PDFs in Thephyu Village and Chaungnapauk Village. According to PDFs, they confiscated some military uniform and weapons in their clearance operation of the area. 
  • In Taninthayi Township, a fully-armed soldier from the junta army based in Nyaungbingwin Village defected to the public. 
  • In Hlaingthaya Township of Yangon Region, there were two explosions near the office in Ward (12) on the night of 13 April. During the inspection on the scene, a bomb went off again, killing military officer Zin Maung Lwin and leaving a junta soldier and a hundred-household leader injured. 
  • In Salingyi Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army set fire to Htandaw Village on Saturday morning. Consequently, local people had to run away. 
  • On Saturday, Taze Township General Strike marched on the third day of Thingyan, holding signs against the artists who do not stand by the public. 
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship. 
  • In Monywa Township, Monywa Revolution Force conducted an anti-junta protest somewhere in town amidst tight security measures of the junta armed forces. 
  • In Yesagyo of Magwe Region, there was an attack via mortars into the compound of the junta army Regiment (257) where Thingyan was being held. Reportedly, there might have been casualties in the incident. 
  • In Pauk Township, the students from public’s schools chanted Thingyan slogans against the junta army dogs. 
  • In Myaing Township, there was an anti-junta movement on Saturday, chanting Thingyan slogans against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Dakhina Thiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw, there was a grenade attack on the No. (7) sub-power station at about 7:00 pm Friday. 
  • In Loikaw of Karenni State, there was a bomb attack via drone on the pandal of the junta state government on Saturday morning. Reportedly, there were casualties in the incident. 
  • On Friday, Myanmar people in Norway called for pressure and action against the military junta responsible for the air attack killing more than 170 people in Pazigyi Village of Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region. 
  • On social media, the public have been calling on Samsung Company not to continue their work with Paing Dagun and G Fatt, the artists who performed at the junta’s Thingyan at the time of casualties among civilians due to the junta’s airstrikes. 
  • Tom Andrews, who submitted a special report on the human rights conditions in Myanmar to the United Nations, stated that the military junta looks like a gang of bad people taking the citizens as hostages, rather than merely an illegitimate government. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • According to Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), there were 370 battles between the junta armed forces and the forces under the Karen National Union (KNU) in March. Reportedly, more than 400 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Chin State, the CDF Mindat warned the townspeople to dig bomb shelters as soon as possible as a preventive measure against the junta’s airstrikes. They also stated that they would take action against those who fail to do so. 
  • On Saturday, Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) stated that it was cowardly of the military junta to have carried out an aerial attack killing over 150 people including children and women in Pazigyi Village of Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region. 
  • On 12 April, Shan South Local Revolution Union called on the public to take part in the campaign - ‘New uniform for the revolution in the new year’. 

The Military Council 

  • According to the junta Yangon Media Group, diplomats from 15 countries including North Korea and 6 ASEAN members joined the traditional water festival in Yangon Region. 
  • According to the junta Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation, there would be power outage in some townships of Yangon Region on Saturday. 
  • The military junta allowed the direct exchange of Indian rupee and Myanmar kyat in the trade between India and Myanmar. 
  • In the junta propaganda media, the junta leader and his wife, with other military officers and their wives, joined Thingyan celebrated by the junta armed forces in Pyin Oo Lwin on Friday.

  • Due to their inhumane activities, the military junta is seen as a gang of bad people, rather than the army of a nation, in the eye of the international community. 
  • The public have been calling for social punishment against some artists who have performed at the junta’s pandals and who have insulted the Spring Revolution.
