The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Thursday, there was an online meeting between Acting President of the NUG and the UN Human Rights Commissioner. Reportedly, the NUG expressed thanks to the Commissioner for keeping commitments to the aspiration of democracy and human rights of the Myanmar people. They also called on him to urge the international community to have direct relations with the NUG.
  • On Friday, responsible personnel of the NUG Representative Office in Japan and focal persons of democratic groups attended the funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the headquarters of Liberal Democratic Party-LDP in Tokyo of Japan.
  • On Thursday, the Ministry of Human Rights-NUG and the Ministry of Education-NUG released a joint statement with concerns for the arrest of teachers from Kaung For You Education and the personal information leakage of students. They also stated that they would join hand with the international community including the UN for a response.
  • On the one-year anniversary of the Western Regional PDF under the Ministry of Defence-NUG, All Burma Students' Democratic Front sent a statement with salute to those who had stood up for the public and who had lost their lives in the fight against the military dictatorship.
  • Union Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment-NUG said that the Spring Revolution had arisen out of the public and they had been fighting with strong determination for future aspirations.
  • Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment-NUG announced that there would be the sale of another house belonging to the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing in Yangon.
  • In a liberated area in Kachin State, there was an essay contest prior to the Martyrs’ Day for the students learning under the guidance of the NUG.
  • CDM Captain Nyi Thuta informed the public that a campaign was being conducted to buy two sniper guns for the Shan South PDF Unit (1008).
  • On 17 July, there will be a global virtual meeting between the NUG and the Myanmar people from home and abroad.

Revolution Activities

  • Amidst lack of stability, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Friday morning.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a local guerrilla force conducted a bomb attack via drone on the junta armed forces stationed in Bantbway Village on Thursday afternoon.
  • On Friday, Central Intelligence Agency Tamu announced that the junta pillars were to stop their activities in the district.
  • In Taze Township of Sagaing Region, there were two battles between the junta army and local PDFs near Inkokka Village on Wednesday. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • In Indaw Township, local people, who had been arrested by the junta army stationed in Natmahotegyi Monastery, were released on Thursday evening.
  • Due to data leakage of Kaung for You Education, a total of 5 CDM education staff, including the registrar of Myeik Computer University and 2 tutors from Technology University, were arrested by the junta armed forces in Taninthayi Region on Thursday night.
  • As a part of Nan Htike Aung Operation, local PDF set off an explosion at Yebyu Township Military Security Office on Wednesday night. Reportedly, the whole office building collapsed and there might have been casualties among junta soldiers inside it. There was another attack on the junta army on their way to support the office. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died in the incident.
  • On Thursday, authorities of Dawei Prison beat 10 political prisoners harshly.
  • In Mayagone Township of Yangon Region, U Khin Mg Lat, 100-household leader in Ward 2, was shot dead on Friday morning while he was walking alone.
  • In Hlaingthaya Township, there was a bomb explosion at the court on the roadside of Yangon-Nyaungdone at about 4:00 pm Friday.
  • In Sanchaung Township, 2 unexploded hand-made bombs were cleared off near the exit of the court on Baho Road at about 3:00 pm Friday.
  • There were casualties among the public in the bomb explosion under Myaynigone Flyover on 12 July. Burma Dragon Army (B.D.A) and their alliance announced that they had not conducted the explosion and they also expressed their sorrow for the victims.
  • On Thursday, People's Defence Force Sanchaung Township announced that they had not carried out the explosion which had caused casualties among the public.
  • On Thursday, Mabel or Nyein Nyein Aye, the journalist who had been charged with Section 505 (a), was sentenced to 3 years in prison together with hard labour at the junta court inside of Insein Prison.
  • On 3 and 4 July, the junta armed forces arrested 2 people from South Okkalapa Township and 5 others from Thingangyun Township for no apparent reason and sent them for interrogation.
  • In Saw Township of Magwe Region, Kyauktu PDF announced on Friday that fighting could break out anytime due to the activities of the junta armed forces in the local area.
  • According to We Love Myein, 2 local PDF members managed to escape from detention due to help inside from the army.
  • In Tilin Township, the junta army made an overnight stop in Agyiwabin Village on their way to invade the area. On Thursday morning, one of their junta soldiers died of a gunshot by a sniper from a local PDF.
  • On Thursday night, there was a grenade attack on the junta police camp near the Indian Consulate in Mandalay. Reportedly, 4 members of the junta police force were injured.
  • On Friday morning, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • In Pekone Township on the border of Shan South and Karenni State, the junta army broke into the shops at Lwepaw Village and left soldier-like scarecrows there for patrol.
  • In Pekone Township in Shan South, a combined force of PDF attacked the junta armed forces in Painegone Village and Makaykam Village on Thursday. Reportedly, no less than 11 junta soldiers died. Moreover, the communication machines of the junta army and their ration storehouses were destroyed with an RPG.
  • On Wednesday night, a man from Pwaynapha Village in Ywangan Township, a junta informer who had installed CCTVs worth 60 lakh MMK to prompt fear amongst the PDFs, was shot dead.
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, a rally of gems miners marched against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Moekaung Township, there was a bomb attack on Friday morning on the junta municipal office demanding money from the public.
  • Justice for Myanmar called on the Indian government to immediately adopt a provision against the sale of weapons to the junta army in Myanmar.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to Mutraw Newsletter, second police sergeant Zayyar, who had been awarded the Thura Title in Kokang battle, joined KNU Brigade (5), together with weapons, on 3 July.
  • In Kyaukgyi Township of Bago Region, a man from Setle Village lost his life due to mortars fired by the junta army on Thursday. Reportedly, his two children aged 12 years and 6 months were injured as well.
  • On Friday, Karenni National Defence Force-KNDF announced they had conducted attacks on the junta army stationed on hilltops and conducted ambushes against junta logistics vehicles in the second week of July.

The Military Council

  • On Thursday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing met with the senior government officer of St. Petersburg in Russia and discussed the possibility of opening a Myanmar Consulate there.
  • On Thursday, the junta Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that regarding the departure of Mr. Pete Vowles from the British Embassy, his twitter post on the matter was far from reality.
  • In Mainnaung of Shan State, the junta peace team met with SSPP SSA on Thursday. Reportedly, they discussed matters related to withdrawal of SSPP camps and illegal drugs.
  • The junta Central Bank informed companies and organizations with overseas debts to suspend their payment of the debts and interest.
  • According to the junta Central Bank, they abolished the exemption of foreign currency policy for the companies under DICA with 10% of foreign investment.
  • In the trial on Friday, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi stated that she had not interfered with the National Election Commission and she had operated in accordance with accepted procedures.
  • On 20 July, the junta court inside of Obo Prison would make a final verdict on the charge of Section 130 (a) against Mandalay Regional Chief Minister.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce, the inflation of Myanmar reached up to 15.06% in the second half of the 6-month mini-budget for 2021-22 fiscal year.
  • According to the junta Myanmar Investment Commission, the current investment at Thilawa Special Economic Zone is worth 2.172 billion USD.
  • The military junta instructed all governmental departments to fly flags at half-mast on Martyrs’ Day.
  • Due to air strikes of the junta army on Thursday, 3 people from Dibeyin Township were injured and more than 4000 others had to run away.
  • In Ayadaw Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army set fire to 40 people’s houses in Hsintale Village on Wednesday.

Summary on 15 July

  • In recent days, the junta Central Bank changed monetary and fiscal policies again and again. Due to their mismanagement, businesses faced a loss and collapsed. The actions might also pose challenges for foreign investors who might be prompted to leave the country.
  • In terms of diplomatic affairs, the military junta has had to face pressure from the international community. As for the junta Minister of Foreign Affairs, he has to spend time just on letters of objection, not diplomacy.
  • The revolution activities against the junta were in great momentum throughout the country including Yangon. On the other hand, the junta armed forces constantly burnt villages, conducted air strikes and killed civilians.
