The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Wednesday, the NUG Ministry of Defence invited people via social media to send them information related to the military junta.
  • The NUG sent a congratulatory statement on the 73 rd anniversary of Kawthulay Day, wishing health of body and peace of mind to all Karen ethnic people throughout the world.
  • In accordance with the right of self-defence, the public has been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. According to the NUG, 43 members of the junta armed forces died and 27 others were injured on Tuesday. Moreover, there were protests against the military
  • dictatorship in the regions throughout the country.
  • According to Mid-Regional Special Military Operation, 35 junta soldiers lost lives due to snipers in Pekone Township on the Shan-Karenni border and Fruso Township in Karenni State from 20 May to 15 June.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, 3 assistant supervisors from the electricity department, who had taken off meter boxes in the Monywa industrial zone, were shot on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, two of them were injured and the other ran away.
  • On Wednesday, the International Parliamentary Investigation (IPI) Committee, comprising of ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR), invited suggestions from individuals or organizations so that they could provide the international community with the information related to the military coup in Myanmar in a precise and timely manner.
  • The Blood Money Campaign and the Myanmar people have been calling on the Total Company, which is leaving the country in July, not to pay the tax of 250 million USD to the military junta.
  • In Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region, armed groups under the junta killed Ko Myo Ko and Ko Yan Paing Soe in Akani Village. They also destroyed the house of U Kyi Ngwe, a supporter of the NLD, in a bomb attack.
  • In Yesagyo Township in Magwe Region, the junta armed forces raided the camp of a local PDF on 10 June. Reportedly, they killed five people, a CDM school headmaster, a CDM nurse, a CDM teacher, a young woman and a PDF member by burning them alive. A local PDF cremated their remains.
  • In Wetlet Township in Sagaing Region, the junta army destroyed houses in Megone Village. Reportedly, they also killed a villager.
  • According to Sagaing Regional Rescue Teams, the junta armed forces have set fire to over 500 villages in Kani, Ye-U and Taze townships. Consequently, local people and fire victims are in urgent need of food.
  • On their 461 st day of protest, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday. 
  • On Wednesday morning, there was an anti-junta poster in downtown Yangon, saying that there would definitely be revenge if death penalties are carried out.
  • In Yangon Region, a large number of the junta armed forces raided many townships and checked overnight guest lists.
  • On Wednesday, 677 local and international organisations signed a statement, calling for the military junta to not be invited to the ASEAN Defence Ministerial Meeting which is being held on 21 June.
  • In Taunggyi Township in Shan South, Taunggyi Guerilla Force (TGF) warned non-CDM headmasters and teachers who had been threatening students, parents and CDM teachers.
  • In Myeik in Tanintharyi Region, a woman aged 30 was sentenced two years in prison at the junta court in Myeik Prison on Tuesday. She was charged under Section 505 (a).
  • In Mandalay, Mandalay Ranger Force – PDF (ROM) conducted an attack on the gate of the Middle Regional Military Headquarters near 19 Street on Wednesday morning.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In Thatone Township under Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (1), there was fighting between the junta armed forces and a combined force of the KNLA for seven hours on Tuesday. Reportedly, seven junta soldiers died and six others were injured.
  • A Spokesperson for the Arakan Army (AA) said that the junta state government had been bullying Rakhine people and thus, the AA would take action against them if necessary.
  • In their 3 rd press conference on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the AA said that they had not attended the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing’s peace discussions as they stand with the oppressed alliance fighting together.
  • A representative of the KNU’s Foreign Affairs said that they would not discuss peace as long as the junta army gets involved in politics.

The Military Council

  • In the meeting with responsible personnel from Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in Nay Pyi Taw, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that among the three methods of animal farming, the caged one was the best, and that there were still many
  • requirements in the chicken farming businesses.
  • Again, the military junta invited the ethnic armed organisations that had not attended the peace discussions, to join them.
  • The junta media stated that PDFs had been sending threatening letters and attacking schools and teachers in some states and regions.
  • The junta Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced that they would not yet collect power bills with new rates.
  • U Zayyar Lin, a member of the junta Nay Pyi Taw Council, said that the businesses in industrial zones were to create job opportunities for the public and focus on full taxation to the State.
  • On 17 June, the junta court inside of Obo Prison will reach its final verdict on the five charges under anti-corruption law faced by Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, the Mandalay Regional Chief Minister.
  • In a meeting with responsible personnel from Sittway, the second junta leader Soe Win said that there would be checks of National Registration Card (NRCs) for accuracy.

Summary on 16 June

  • In Rakhine State, the second junta leader talked about checks of NRCs. Consequently, there might be checks for overnight guest lists and oppression of local Muslims on purpose.
  • In Yesagyo Township in Magwe Region, the junta army raided the camp of a local PDF and killed five people, including CDM staff and a pregnant woman, by burning them alive. In the incident, they violated the provisions for prisoners of war contained in the 1864 Geneva International Military Law. Therefore, they must take responsibility for such war crimes.
  • Despite arrests of young protesters in Yangon, there were still guerrilla protests. The same was true in Mandalay, Tanintharyi, Sagaing and Magwe regions.
