The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The Western Regional PDF comprising the underground guerrillas in Minbu District changed into Minbu District PDF Regiment (5) under the Ministry of Defence- NUG.
  • According to the Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management- NUG on Monday morning, the Super Cyclone Mocha went though Chin State, Magwe Region, Mandalay Region, Sagaing Region and Kachin State as an inland storm for some hours and it was weakened in the northern part of the country.
  • The Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management- NUG called on the international community to assist the victims of Super Cyclone Mocha.
  • At 10:00 am Sunday, there was a meeting between the Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration- NUG and Township People’s Administration from Taninthayi Region, Ayeyarwady Region and Bago Region.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Myinmu Township of Sagaing Region, there was a mine attack on a junta convoy on Monywa-Mandalay Road at about 1:00 pm Sunday.
  • In Salingyi Township, floods hit villages, which had been burnt down by the junta army, due to heavy storm rain.
  • In Kani Township, the junta army conducted aerial bombing and fired mortars on flooded villages on Sunday afternoon.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta armed forces burnt over 200 houses and arrested no less than 20 people on 7 and 8 May.
  • In Pauk Township in Magwe Region, an IDP camp was damaged due to the strong winds and heavy rain of Cyclone Mocha. Reportedly, they have been in need of food and snake antivenom.
  • In Ngazun Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army raided Taungywabo Village on 9 May. They also arrested a person and took away people’s belongings.
  • In Dawei Township of Taninthayi Region, a junta investigator Nay Min (alias) Kaungki was shot dead at about 2:00 pm Sunday.
  • In a press conference on Monday, Pita Limjaroenrat, the leader of the Move Forward Party which won the election in Thailand, claimed that they would join hands with the international community including the US Burma Act to help solve the crisis of the military coup in Myanmar.
  • A total of 186 organizations sent an open letter calling on the military junta to stop killing people and G7 leaders to take effective action.
  • In Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday, the UG Family made a collection and got 7000 baht.
  • In Malaysia, the NLD (OC) International showed revolutionary movies by Director Nagyi. Reportedly, there was a large audience.
  • In Incheon, South Korea, there was a photo show on Myanmar’s Spring Revolution along with a fund-raising event for the IDPs from 11:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday.
  • In Malaysia, the 22222 Overseas Support Team made a collection on Sunday. Reportedly, they got 4,052RM and they would send it for rations for the PDFs.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, there has been ongoing fighting in Letkattaung and Kyaukmai.
  • The spokesperson of the Karen National Union called on the international community not to ignore the massacres of the military junta.
  • On Sunday, the military junta arrested the father and the younger brother of the Vice-Chair, who got elected in the recent KNU Congress. Reportedly, they released them on Monday.
  • In Kanpetlet Township of Chin State, the whole camp of Local CDF Brigade (2) was damaged in the Cyclone Mocha. Reportedly, they have been badly in need of rain-proof sheets.
  • Due to Cyclone Mocha, the headquarters of CDF Matupi and public’s houses were damaged.
  • The buildings at the headquarters of CDF Ton Zang were damaged in the Cyclone Mocha.

The Military Council

  • At Yangon Regional Military Headquarters, business people donated over 130,000 lakh MMK for rescue and resettlement in cyclone-hit areas. Reportedly, present on the occasion was the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
  • On Monday morning, the junta natural disaster risks management committee, led by the junta leader, conducted an emergency meeting to carry out rescue and resettlement in storm-hit areas.
  • At the event of the 75th anniversary of India-Myanmar Friendship on Sunday, the junta leader claimed that the junta will continue to actively cooperate with regional organizations including the United Nations and the international community.
  • On Monday, the military junta declared 17 townships of Rakhine State to be storm-hit areas.
  • According to the military junta, over 800 houses and 7 telecom towers were damaged all over the country due to Cyclone Mocha. In addition, 3 people lost their lives and 13 others were injured.
  • According to the military junta in Rakhine State, the emergency period was set for 6 months and the rehabilitation period for 3 years in Rakhine State which was hit by Cyclone Mocha.
  • The junta natural disaster risks management committee announced that local and international well-wishers could donate to the victims of Cyclone Mocha.
  • The military junta announced that it had sent rice and biscuits to Sittwe via military planes and helicopters on Monday morning to help the victims of Cyclone Mocha in Rakhine State.
  • The junta Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced at 2:00 pm Monday that Cyclone Mocha had turned into a low-pressure area.
  • The junta leader stated that 100,000 USD would be given as a reward to Myanmar’s women football team if they won the first prize and 50,000 USD to Myanmar’s men football team if they won the third place at the SEA Games.

Summary on 16 May

  • Using the excuse of the cyclone, the military junta has been asking for local and international donations. They have also tried to take political advantage. The same happened during the tenure of the previous military dictators.
  • In the revolution against the military junta, overseas support teams play a vital role as well and they have been in great momentum.
