NUG

  • The opening ceremony of a fund-raising raffle program by “United Hands for Our Freedom” will be held on February 20. The Chairman of the CRPH, U Aung Kyi Nyunt, the Defense Minister of the NUG, U Yee Mon, the Union Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for the NUG, Dr. Win Myat Aye, and the Spring Revolution Leader, U Min Ko Naing, will give the opening speeches.
  • According to the news, on 15 February, 64 junta soldiers died and 13 soldiers were injured when the Peoples Defensive War defended itself, stated the NUG.
  • In a statement to the NUG’s Mon National Day, ethnic Mons said they were strongly against the military junta and said they wanted national equality and self-administration in successive governments alongside co-operation with other ethnic nationalities to build a federal democratic nation.
  • In a statement to the NUG’s Mon National Day, ethnic Mons were honored and saluted for their 70-year long sacrifice against the military regime and towards building a federal democratic nation. The NUG paid tribute to the Mon people, Mon youths, Mon women and Mon students fighting for federal democracy in the Spring Revolution.
  • There was global interest when the acting NUG president told the ceremony commemorating the 75th-anniversary of the Pinlong Agreement that the 43rd NUG government meeting was held at 10 a.m. on February 15.

Revolutionary Activities

  • 724 lakhs were collected from the Denko petrol shop owned by U Chit Khaing known for supplying petrol and aviation fuel to the military junta. The money was divided up and given to revolutionary groups.
  • The main rally of Kalay went on strike for the 374th day against the military junta on February 16.
  • A rally from different villages from east Yinmarpin and north Salingyi staged a demonstration on February 16.
  • In Seikkun village, Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, the police station where the junta soldiers and police were stationed was attacked with bombs and a drone at about 3 p.m. on February 15, according to a local PDF.
  • In Min village, Gantgaw Township, Magway, YDF and Myaing PDF attacked a police station where junta troops and police were stationed at 7:20 p.m. on February 10, killing 20 junta soldiers and critically injuring 18 other soldiers.
  • In Nabulae village, Yephyu township, Taninthary region, junta soldiers collecting money from fishing motorboats were attacked by the Dawei PDF. Four junta soldiers died and the PDF got four weapons.
  • Internal peace and a federal democratic union which have not been achieved for over 70 years depend on the SAC, a spokesperson of Mon Unity Party, Naing Ta La Nyi told Mizzima.
  • A local PDF visited and had lunch in Late Pu (Min Hla) village which is about two miles away from military camp (591) in Yay Township, Mon State after being invited by the villagers.
  • At Aung Nan Thit tea shop in San Pya Street, Thingankyun Township, Yangon, the military informer, Moe Myint Than Kywe was shot in the head at around 10 a.m. on February 16, according to locals.
  • In Ga quarter, Khaymarthi Street, North Oakkala Township, Yangon, the general administration office was bombed at 5:15 p.m. on February 15, said the local guerrilla group.
  • There was intensified fight and tension between the SAC troops and the KIA with its allied local PDF between Lon Shar Yan and Phatmar villages, in Putao District at 8 p.m. on February 15, according to locals.
  • In Monhnyin township, Kachin state, Nan Mar electricity office was bombed at 8 p.m. on February 15, according to locals.

EAOs

  • In Karenni state, there were fights between SAC soldiers and Karenni allied groups. Eight junta soldiers, including an officer, died during the second week of February, according to the KNDO.
  • According to local IDPs, there were battles in the Lay Kay Kaw quarters and Phalulay and Phalugyi villages on the morning of February 15. It is the second month of fighting in the Lay Kay Kaw region.
  • SAC troops and the KIA clashed near Maliran village, Swamprabon Township, on the Myitkyina-Swamprabon-Putao road, in Kachin state at 10 a.m. on February 15.
  • Moebyae PDF urged people to live in safe shelters as there would be tensions in Moebyae Town, in Phaeknon Township.
  • The PPST stated on February 16 that Mon nationalities would make the tough journey of building a federal democratic union together with other nationalities.

Military Junta

  • A fighter jet of the air forces of SAC crashed near Owntaw village, Sagaing Region during training, stated the military-owned Myawaddy television network.
  • Staff from the regions and states, and students from the BEHS in Nay Pyi Taw, were infected with COVID-19 as they attended the “Boshu Thabin” of the junta chief Min Aung Hlaing.
  • On February 14, the SAC’s customs department and inspection groups made a surprise check on HINO RANGER Trator (18) and they were found to not have a licence. Staff were arrested for illegal trading and they will be prosecuted under the import and export law, according to the SAC.
  • The No (1) representative of the regional assembly, U Moe Ma Kha, had his house in the Nhwe Hlan quarter of Taunggu Town in Bago Region sealed off by the junta, according to locals.

Summary on February 16

  • The crash of an SAC fighter jet was legally announced. The junta stated that the jet crashed during training, however, it can be assumed that SAC used the training jet in fighting as well, because there are insufficient fighter jets in the junta air forces to fight a multi-front war all over the country.
  • The military junta has been hit hard because the revolutionary forces in Sagaing are becoming stronger and stronger. The junta troops and the Pyu Saw Htee killed people and looted their properties, these are war crimes.
  • The NUG is trying to get more international support to build a federal democratic union.
  • Locals need to move to safe places to avoid the junta’s violence as there have been frequent battles in the ethnic regions of Karenni, Karen, Chin and Kachin states.
