The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In a meeting of the Central Committee on Establishing an Interim Public Administration on Tuesday, Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than said that public judiciary activities were to be prioritized.
  • On Pao National Day on Wednesday, the NUG sent a statement wishing for the success of Pao men and women in their liberation efforts to build a true federal democratic union.
  • In their statement for Pao National Day, the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) called on the public, including Pao ethnic people, to join hands to reach the common destination of the military dictatorship’s downfall and the establishment of a nation with federal democracy.
  • In their statement on Wednesday, the Pao National Federal Council (PNFC) called on Pao people to join hands with people from all walks of life in the fight against the military dictatorship.
  • In their report to the meeting of United Nations Human Rights Council, the NUG requested that the UN set up a temporary court to hold the military junta accountable for their violations against international laws.
  • On Wednesday, the NUG Ministry of Electricity and Energy published a Solar Power Guide Book.
  • The NUG Ministry of Defence announced on Tuesday that the logistics support unit of the People’s Defence Force had been established.

Revolution Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, there was a chaos in Kalay Prison at about 4:00 pm on Tuesday. Reportedly, seven prisoners, including political ones, were shot dead by the junta army. According to the military junta, they had to shoot them dead as about 50 prisoners had tried to escape by taking prison officers a hostage.
  • In Ayadaw Township, a combined force of local PDFs conducted a mine attack on a car on the Monywa-Ayadaw Road on 12 March, in the mistaken belief that Pyu Saw Htee members were in it. The Thabyay Nyo Guerrilla Force said they would take responsibility for it.
  • In Kantbalu Township, two passenger expresses were shot on the Shwebo-Myitkyina Strategy Road at about 4:00 am on Wednesday. Reportedly, a driver and a conductor died.
  • On Wednesday morning, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship.
  • On Wednesday, there was a combined protest against the military dictatorship by the villages of Salingyi and Yinmabin.
  • On their 371st day of protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship.
  • The leader of the YMB PDF denied the accusations about them made by other PDFs. He also said that they had been fighting against the military junta.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta army fired mortars constantly into Tamoat Village on Tuesday. Reportedly, houses and a monastery were set on fire.
  • On Tuesday night, Kalay people protested against the military dictatorship and prayed for the 1,676 people who had lost lives in Spring Revolution.
  • On Wednesday, the Myaing Villages Revolution Force announced that they had supported the families of their seven members who had lost lives with 20 lakh MMK.
  • In Magwe Region, Longshay PDF attacked the car of a junta army officer on the border of Saytoattaya and Saw townships on Tuesday evening. Reportedly, five junta soldiers, including the officer, died.
  • On Wednesday, Kyauktu PDF released an emergency statement calling on the public not to use the Kyauktu-Pakkoku and Kyauktu-Tilin road sections.
  • In Yesagyo Township, a local PDF announced on Wednesday that serious action would be taken against the sale or transportation of junta army products in the area.
  • In Pauk Township, seven junta informers including a monk in Theechaut Village signed documents in public on Tuesday promising that they would stop informing on people.
  • In Yangon, the Burmese Youth Network marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • In Kyimyindine Township, the YUG conducted an explosion at the house and car of Myint Htwe, the junta-appointed administrator, of Thayettaw (5) Street on Wednesday morning.
  • At 2:00 am Wednesday, Thanlyin PDF attacked Phaku police camp between Thanlyin Township and Kayan Township.
  • In Hlaing Township, the GenerationZ Defence Force & Supply Army conducted a mine attack near the building of the Ministry of Education in Ward (12) at 5:10 am on Wednesday morning.
  • Thaketa’s Urban Guerrilla Force- (TUGF) released a statement calling on the public to move away upon seeing cars or motorbikes in an urgent hurry. They also apologized in advance if they had to demand people get out of their way by threatening them with guns.
  • In Hlaingthaya Township, two members of the Gods Of Death were arrested with weapons on Tuesday evening. The location where they are being detained is still unknown.
  • On Tuesday morning, a hand-made bomb (IED) was found on the back wheel of a YBS – 89 going from Thaketa to Sulay.
  • The film director Mighty was arrested for his post on social media and charged with breaking section (505-A).
  • On Tuesday, the Octopus Social Group called for other protesters to join the Yangon Strike.
  • In Dagon Seikkam Township, Mg Nyein Chan aged 26 was beaten to death by a group led by the junta-appointed hundred-household leader Tun Naing on Monday.
  • In Mogok in Mandalay Region, the Red Wolves Of Mogok conducted an attack on Kyatpyin Police Station at about 10:00 am on Wednesday. Reportedly,three junta policemen died and two others were seriously injured. The PDF also carried out a bomb attack on a Denko gas station as a warning.
  • In Mandalay, a rally of local people, monks and students marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • On Wednesday morning, there was an anti-junta demonstration and a poster cursing the junta armed forces was put up near the Mandalay Moat.
  • In Taungtha Township, there was a clash between the junta army and a local PDF on Tuesday afternoon. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died.
  • In Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region, the Basic Education Students’ Union led a march against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • In Pulaw, there was a bomb explosion at the township administration office on Sunday. Reportedly, the office was badly damaged.
  • In Pulaw Township, a couple in Kade Village who were USDP members, were shot dead at 6:00 pm on Monday.
  • In Dawei, a 30-year-old man in Talaima Ward was shot dead on Tuesday evening.
  • In Taunggyi in southern Shan State, the Taunggyi Guerrilla Force blew up an ATM at KBZ Bank Branch (2) on Tuesday night.
  • Starting at 10:00 am on Wednesday, there was heavy fighting on the border of Pekone and Loikaw. The KNDF called on the public not to use Mobye-Loikaw Road.
  • The United Nations Human Rights Office announced on Tuesday that after the military coup, there were mass murders in Myanmar and they were war crimes and crimes against humanity by the military junta.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Pulaw Township of Tanintharyi Region, a combined force of the KNU and PDFs attacked Pyu Saw Htee members on Wednesday morning. As the junta army arrived there to support the Pyu Saw Htee there was heavy fighting. Reportedly, no less than 20 members of the junta armed forces died. As for the local PDFs, one of their members got injured.
  • In Kyaikhto Township in Mon State, a combined force of the KNLA and PDF conducted an attack with 40mm grenade on the junta forces at Mayanchaung camp on Monday.
  • In a shooting at Kalay Prison on Tuesday, Ban Dai, a member of the CNDF, lost his life.
  • Over 70 organisations and CSOs released a joint statement condemning the case in which RCSS/SSA ruthlessl killing of the TNP Chair and his family.

The Military Council

  • In a national planning meeting on Tuesday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they had been empowering local businesses and that they would give priority to the basic needs of the public.
  • The second junta leader, Soe Win, said that they expect an economic growth rate of 4.3% on average for the junta’s five-year national plan.
  • On Tuesday night, the junta ministry of health announced that gatherings of up to 400 people are being allowed throughout the country.
  • In an interview with VOA-Burmese, the vice-chair of the junta Central Bank said that media outlets reports saying there are billions of counterfeit dollars in the country were just based on rumours.
  • According to the junta newspaper, on Wednesday the military junta said that it has designated over 900,000 acres as conservation areas within the last year.
  • According to military sources, the junta army has been collecting rice and they would continue to do so until they have collected up to 3 million rice bags by the end of the year
  • On the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, a convoy of military trucks full of rations passed, according to local residents.
  • On Tuesday, the Union Supreme Court rejected the defense’s statement against the five corruption charges State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi has been charged with.
  • Thura U Aung Ko, the former Minister of Religious Affairs and Culture who has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, is in critical condition as he could not get access to medical treatment.
  • In Salingyi Township, the junta police from Nyaungbingyi station and the security police at the Letpadaung Taung project mistakenly shot at each other on Tuesday evening. Reportedly, three policemen died.
  • In Karenni State, the Commander of the Eastern Regional Military Headquarters met with the indigenous people’s army on Tuesday.

Summary on 17 March

  • In the chaos at Kalay Prison, the military junta shot dead seven prisoners, giving the excuse that they had tried to run away. The prisoners had been calling for a halt to reported human rights violations happening in the prison, which led to arguments and the authorities opening fire on the prisoners.
  • In areas with strong anti-junta movements, the junta armed forces have been setting fire to villages and killing people on purpose.
  • There might be ongoing revolutionary activities against the military dictatorship all over the country.
