The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • U Aung Myo Min, The NUG Minister of Human Rights, said that the military junta would be sued in an Australian Court for the massacre in Fruso Township in Karenni State.
  • On Wednesday, there was a meeting between the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and UK MPs via a video conference, they mainly discussed the situation after the military coup.
  • The NUG Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment announced the list of agents from where NUG bonds can be bought in South Korea.
  • Gathering evidence of murders by the military junta, the NUG reported to the 49th conference of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
  • The NUG Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Risk Management announced that they had provided humanitarian assistance worth over 186 million MMK to the public in February.

Revolution Activities

  • In Myinmu Township in Sagaing Region, a combined force of the MRA and Knight Commanders conducted a mine attack on 10 junta soldiers, who had come there for mine clearance, at about 9:00 am on Thursday. Reportedly, seven junta soldiers died.
  • In Dibeyin Township, there were battles between the junta armed forces and local PDFs from 12 to 15 March. Reportedly, nine junta soldiers died.
  • The Chief Military Officer of the CNDF said that they would soon take revenge on the junta army for shooting dead unarmed political prisoners, including the CNDF member Ban Dine, in Kalay Prison on Tuesday.
  • In Monywa, a combined force of Unity Force Monywa and the Brother Defense Force set off improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at Kanthaya and No. (2) High School where the junta army was stationed.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta armed forces fired into Kalalu Village and Sharlwe Village on Wednesday afternoon. Reportedly, 138 houses were set on fire.
  • In a village in Monywa Township, a large rally of local people protested against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Monywa, youth from Y.R.F carried out an anti-junta protest on Thursday, destroying a military junta sign at Kanthaya and hanging a banner that said: ‘Fight for new Burma’.
  • In Minkin Township, there was a clash between the junta armed forces and local PDFs near Kule Village on Tuesday. Reportedly, five Pyu Saw. Htee members died and the PDF lost one member.
  • On the 372nd day of protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • On Thursday, local people and a strike committee marched to salute the PDF members who had lost their lives in battles against the junta armed forces in Yinmabin Township.
  • At about 10:30 am on Wednesday, the junta armed forces set fire to 18 houses in 3 villages in Yinmabin Township.
  • In Magwe Region, a convoy of 100 military trucks from Pakkoku passed Kamma at about 9:00 am on Thursday and headed for Pauk, Yaw Area and Chin State.
  • In Yesagyo Township, YSO.ISA arrested and killed police sergeant Hein Htet at about 9:00 pm on Wednesday.
  • On Wednesday, Gangaw Township Public Administration announced that they had not released any statement prohibiting the sale of rice outside of the township and social media posts under the name of PDFs were just unreliable sources.
  • In Naungcho Township in northern Shan North, a local PDF attacked the junta army regiment (115) on Wednesday night and there were exchanges of fire. Reportedly, a sentry soldier died and another one was injured.
  • According to the Karenni Nationality Defence Force on Thursday, no less than 25 junta soldiers died in battles in Karenni State from 9 to 16 March. As for the combined Karenni forces, they lost 6 members.
  • In Yangon, youths from 4 main religions prayed for the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing to be no longer on earth and for peace in the country on Thursday.
  • In Mingala Taung Nyunt Township, four young protesters, including a young girl under 18, were arrested near Yuzana Plaza on Wednesday morning.
  • A spokesperson for the Yangon Urban Guerrillas –YUG said that if the junta administrators did not resign they could not be able to guarantee their lives.
  • In Thanlyin Township, a local PDF opened fire on a military officer and a junta informer drinking alcohol at a restaurant at about 6:00 pm on Wednesday. Reportedly, both of them died.
  • In Htautgyant in Mingaladone Township, Shwe Htun, allegedly a junta informer, was shot dead at about 4:00 pm on Wednesday while he was driving.
  • In Thanlyin Township, Dark Shadow (YGN) conducted an explosion attack on a security gate manned by 20 junta soldiers, on Wednesday night.
  • In Lammadaw Township, the PDF tried to carry out an explosion at an electricity office on Wednesday morning, but they cancelled the attack as there were civilian passers-by.
  • In Dawbone Township, there was a bomb attack at the township municipal office on Wednesday afternoon. According to the God's Hand Forces – GHF and the Owl, theycarried out the attack because the office collected too much tax and destroyed people’s houses.
  • On Wednesday, a youth from the Yangon strike conducted an anti-junta protest in memory of students who had lost lives at Inlya Lake Red Bridge.
  • In Madaya Township in Mandalay Region, Win Min Toe, the junta-appointed administrator of Kanbe Village, was shot dead on Wednesday morning.
  • On Thursday in Tanintharyi the Regional Military Affairs Management announced that they would guarantee the security of deserting soldiers if they joined the resistance and promised them 30 lakh MMK if they deserted with their weapons.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Hpapun District under the control of KNU Brigade (5), there were 167 battles between the KNLA and junta and BGF armed forces from 1 to 15 March. According to the Mutraw Newsletter, 54 junta soldiers died and 40 others were injured.
  • The commander of the Myeik-Dawei District KNDO said that if it was not necessary the public should not use the Dawei-Tikhi-Myitta road section on the Myanmar-Thai border as there might be high military tensions due to the mobilization of junta armed forces in the area.
  • In Kalay Township, a combined force of the CNDF and a local PDF attacked the junta army near Hakhalay Village on Wednesday. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died and a member of the combined force was slightly injured.
  • In Phalan Township in Chin State, there was a clash between the CNDF and the junta army in Ward (1) of Rihkhawdar on Thursday morning. According to the CNO, a CNDF member lost their life and the number of junta soldier casualties was unknown.

The Military Council

  • On Wednesday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing attended a ritual ceremony for a religious building that is going to be built in Maya Wizaya Park, Nay Pyi Taw, using public donations.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing organized a ceremony bestowing religious titles for 2022 on Wednesday.
  • On Wednesday, Aung Naing Oo, the junta Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations joined the ASEAN Economic Ministerial Meeting and said that in cooperation with other member countries, activities would be carried out to complete priorities in 2022.
  • On Thursday, the military junta threatened private hospitals and clinics telling them to not hire CDM health staff, to not give medical treatment to PDF members who got injured and to send them a list of all patients.
  • According to military sources, Colonel General Alexandar V. Fomin, the deputy minister of defence in Russia, will be in Myanmar from 25 to 27 March to attend the army day ceremony of the military junta.
  • The junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun said that 1 million doses of the junta COVID-19 vaccines would be produced every month and that they would be used starting from April.
  • In Kyimyindine Township, the junta army threatened stall keepers to get them to remove their stalls in the night market and lanes.
  • On Thursday morning, the junta army logistics ship went up the Ayeyarwaddy River towards Shweku.
  • The military junta spread false information that the KKO and the PDF had set fire to passenger express and trucks on the Myawaddy-Kawkarait section of the Asia Road.

Summary on 18 March

  • The NUG submitted evidence of violent activities by the military junta to the 49th conference of the United Nations Human Rights Council. If the Security Council takes action on this, the military junta could face more problems.
  • Despite 400 days since the coup the military junta cannot control the whole country. Revolutionary activities are gaining momentum, while the junta armed forces continued to commit violent crimes.
  • During the information blackout in Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces set fire to villages. As for local PDFs, they have managed to continue carrying out revolutionary activities and even control some areas.
