Spring Revolution Daily News for 18 March 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Risks Management-NUG announced on Thursday that they had provided the humanitarian assistance worth 378.11 million MMK in February. 
  • At the conference of the United Nations, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN presented about the crimes against humanity and the war crimes of the military junta. 
  • Under the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment-NUG, the End of Dictatorship called for the purchase for their remaining projects. 
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, Local People’s Administration of the NUG provided IDPs with bags of rice in Yelegyun Area. 
  • At 3:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administrative Teams. 
  • On Thursday morning, there was a meeting of the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration. 
  • According to Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), their delegation had an exclusive meeting with international MPs in the 146th International Parliament Conference in Bahrain. 
  • In Southern Military Region, the Ministry of Education-NUG and the Ministry of Defence-NUG successfully completed a revision exercise for the PDF comrades who will take the matriculation exam. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, Noeleen Heyzer, the Special Envoy on Myanmar, stated that to keep hold power, the military junta has killed PDF members by cutting off their heads, killing 28 people in Pinlong, conducting aerial bombings and burning villages. 
  • The Consultant of the US Foreign Department called on the partners of the United States to build relations with democratic groups in Myanmar. 
  • At the United Nations General Assembly, the UK Government released a statement condemning the junta’s mass murder of no less than 28 people in Pinlong Township on 11 March. 
  • In Khin-U Township of Sagaing Region, PDFs attacked the junta army at the top of Chanthargone Village at about 7:00 am Friday. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died. 
  • On Friday, Kalay General Strike expressed their desire against the use of PTT products. 
  • On Friday, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for sanctions on Myanmar’s Oil and Gas Enterprise, the income source for the military junta. 
  • On Friday morning, a rally of Yinmabin North marched for the end of the military dictatorship. 
  • In the western part of Khin-U Township, a large number of the junta armed forces invaded the area on Friday morning. Reportedly, more than 9000 people from 8 villages have had to run away. 
  • In Myaung Township, the junta army arrived at Paukchaung Village at 12:15 pm Thursday. Before then, they had conducted a mass murder in Tartain Village of Sagaing Township. Reportedly, there was a bomb attack via drone on them and there might have been casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • In Shwebo Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on junta troops on their way back after their patrol in the east of Ta-One Village on Thursday afternoon. Reportedly, a junta soldier died. 
  • In Thaketa Township of Yangon Region, the 3 junta policemen were shot at about 1:00 pm Friday while they were in a photo-copier shop in front of No. (2) Police Station. Reportedly, two of them died. 
  • At about 11:00 am Friday, there was a bomb explosion in front of Hleku Township Court. Reportedly, a person was injured on his way to court. 
  • On Thursday afternoon, there were grenade attacks on the Ga Ward Administration Office in North Okkalapa Township and Zwemin Gold Shop in Hlaing Township. 
  • In Ngazun Township of Mandalay Region, there was a mine attack on a junta convoy on the way back from Natgyi Village at about 4:30 pm Thursday. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers including an officer died. 
  • In the western parts of Madayar Township, the junta armed forces have been conducting invasions since 15 March. They have also been burning local villages. Consequently, thousands of villagers have had to run away. 
  • On the border of Pauk Township and Myaing Township in Magwe Region, the junta army opened fire via Mi 35 helicopter on the area without any battle on Friday morning. 
  • Between Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region and Myaung Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army troop, which had killed 17 people, raided the area on Thursday. Reportedly, local people have had to run away. 
  • In the north of Htilin Township, YDF attacked a junta army troop of 600 soldiers at 4:40 pm Thursday. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers died. 
  • On Wednesday, a combined force of PDFs attacked the junta army invading Yesagyo Township. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • In Paukkaung of Bago Region, the military junta sentenced long-term imprisonment to 6 local men under the anti-terrorism law. Reportedly, they had been arrested related to a case of a bomb explosion in town. 
  • The junta armed forces have been after those who ran away from Nyaung Shwe Prison. Based in Shan South, Joe Phyu Revolution Force released an emergency statement that they will help the escaped prisoners as much as possible if they contact them. 
  • According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, 3237 people have lost lives due to the ruthless killing of the junta armed forces throughout the country. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Pinlong Township of Shan South, Karenni Forces attacked a large number of the junta armed forces invading the mountain in the west of Nam Naing Village on Thursday morning. Reportedly, over 20 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Kanpetlet Township of Chin State, Local People’s Administration led the construction of a self-help road which is 8 miles and 2 furlongs long. 
  • After the meeting of the FPNCC in the headquarters of United Wa State Army, only the capability of ethnic minorities must be depended on for the establishment of a federal democratic union in Myanmar. 
  • In the meeting of the FPNCC, Ta’ang National Liberation Army stated that the military coup made the local politics more complicated along with intensified military affairs. 
  • The Chair of Pa-O National Federal Council stated that Pa-O National Organization should reflect on their cooperation with the military junta. 
  • In Karenni State, Karenni Commando took control of a junta army camp in the eastern Salween Area on Thursday evening. 
  • Tumi Lottery called for the purchase of Revolution Thingyan lottery tickets to support the health sector in Chin State. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta Central Bank of Myanmar announced on Friday that the licenses of 20 money changers had been revoked. 
  • According to the junta Union Election Commission, 27 political parties have applied for registration. 
  • For the preliminary registration of electric vehicles, only those with the slips of old vehicles will be issued a Yangon license. 
  • Regarding the activities on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the junta Myanmar National Human Rights Commission released a statement. 
  • In Tachileik of Shan State, a meeting of Myanmar-Laos Central Border Authorities was held on Wednesday, jointly chaired by the junta Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Laos. 
  • At 10:00 am Thursday, Chair of the junta Central Bank met with the delegation of Cambodian Central Bank in Nay Pyi Taw and discussed the payment across the border between the two countries. 
  • According to the junta propaganda media, armed groups opened gunfire on a car on the way to Yay in Mon State taking people for medical treatment. Reportedly, one person died and a woman and a child were injured. 
  • In Nay Pyi Taw, the junta propaganda leaflets were shared to the students on their way out after taking the matriculation exam. 

Summary on 17 March 

  • The international community has been putting pressure to take action against Myanmar’s Army conducting violent activities. On the other hand, the NUG and the Special Envoy on Myanmar presented about such crimes at the United Nations. Consequently, the military junta might face more hardships in international affairs. 
  • For the registration of electric vehicles with Yangon licenses, the old ones must be surrendered first. It has been different from the EV policy released by the military junta. It will result in high costs for these cars, highlighting the junta’s mismanagement.
