The Military Council

  • According to the junta leader, Nay Pyi Taw Council Area was designed for 20 million people to live in. It would be upgraded by constructing electric bus roads and underground railways. Electric vehicles would run there. So, he gave instructions to make necessary arrangements.
  • The National Unity Government (NUG)
  • The sales of the Spring Lottery, organized by Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment - NUG, will be suspended, starting from 20th August.
  • To keep in touch with the public, the NUG will try broadcasting Radio NUG at 8:00 am and 8:00 pm on 20th August. Therefore, they called for listening to it at 16/17.71 MegaHertz on shortwave.
  • FW de Klerk, Nobel Peace Prize Winner and Former South African President, signed an online request for the UN’s recognition of the NUG and keeping U Kyaw Moe Tun as Myanmar’s ambassador to the UN.
  • The NUG announced that the Ministry of Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Risks Management had been trying to provide necessary assistance to the public in natural-disaster-hit areas.
  • For the victims of landslide and flood in Moegoke of Mandalay Region, 10 lakhs or a million Kyats was provided on 13th August.
  • According to the announcement of the NUG, a total of 24 lakhs was provided for the victims of natural disasters on 15th August; 18 lakhs to buy rice for Magaran IDP camp in Kachin State, which was hit with flooding, 1 lakh to a family with a great loss caused by the landslide and 5 lakhs for the houses which were damaged by disasters. In addition, 15 lakhs was provided as humanitarian aid for prisoners and their families in need.

Revolution Activities

  • On Tuesday night, Mandalay Monks’ Union recited Parittas for the public as usual and protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In Chanaye Thazan Township, administrator U Aung Swe Tun was shot dead by an unknown gunman at about 11:00 am Wednesday while he was in Shwe Hlan administration office.
  • In Taungtha Township, U Tun Win, junta-appointed administrator of Nyaungkan village, was shot dead on the spot at about 11:00 am Wednesday. Reportedly, he received 3 gunshots, 2 in his head and another one in his chest.
  • On Wednesday, a rally of people of various religions in Mandalay conducted an anti-junta movement.
  • On Wednesday, a rally of Mandalay Engineers marched against the military dictatorship.
  • Chanting anti-junta slogans, a rally of Mandalay residents protested against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • In Dala Township of Yangon Region, anti-junta youth made a guerrilla protest in front of Aung Zayya market on Wednesday morning.
  • In Sagaing Region, a rally comprising various villages from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East expressed their desire for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • In Dibeyin Township, the junta armed forces raided the house of NLD MP U Win Myint Aung in Saipyin village at about 12:00 pm Wednesday. Reportedly, they arrested his wife, his child and his younger brother as they did not find him.
  • In Minkin Township, a junta soldier, who had been distributing masks in front of the motorboat office, had an argument with Ko Zaw Myo Myint, who did not wear mask, on Tuesday afternoon. That soldier shot him three times in a row. Reportedly, Ko Zaw Myo Myint died with gunshots in his head. A woman near the incident was injured as well. Besides that, another woman named Ma Zin Mar Win died of cardio arrest due to the sound of gunshots.
  • On Wednesday, PDF Htilin called on the public not to go out with cars and motorbikes between 8:00 pm and 6:00 am as there might be battles anytime due to the operation of the junta armed forces in Yaw area.
  • On Wednesday morning, Kalay residents protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In Minkin Township, the junta armed forces killed 3 people from Kyaukkedat village. Reportedly, they threw their dead bodies into Chindwin river.
  • According to local residents of Taungdwingyi, the junta armed forces beat and arrested Ko Aung Wai Phyo and his pregnant wife Ma Wint Wah Naing near U-Poat market at about 9:30 pm Tuesday.
  • In Taungdwingyi of Magwe Region, the junta armed forces raided the house of Ko Wai Phyo Paing, KBZ Bank staff member, in Ohndaw Ward (1) at about 2:30 am Wednesday and arrested him.
  • In Taungdwingyi, the junta armed forces arrested Ko Naung Ko Latt in Maungdine Ward on Monday. Reportedly, he was treated badly during their investigation at the township hall.
  • In Myaing Township, Basic Education Strike Committee, in cooperation with the public from south west zone, marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning, chanting “Only NUG is our government”.
  • In Kayar (Karenni) State, Phekone PDF destroyed electricity tower from Lawpita hydro-power, which had been supplying electricity exclusively for the junta army, on 12th August.
  • On Tuesday, AAPP announced that there were up to 999 people who lost their lives due to the killing and violent action of the junta armed forces within 198 days after the coup. Besides that, more than 7300 people were arrested.
  • In Chin State, there was a battle between the junta armed forces and CDF Mindat at 16 Mile between Mindat and Matupi on 15th August. After that, the junta armed forces had been stationing at 16 Mile junction, 14 Mile divergent point and 5 Mile respectively. Consequently, local residents of near-by villages had to run away.
  • In the north of Mindat, there was a fighting between CDF Mindat and the junta armed forces on Tuesday. Reportedly, weapons of the junta army were confiscated and a junta soldier was arrested.
  • In the fighting at 16 Mile between Mindat and Matupi on 15th August, the junta army had a great loss. Reportedly, they destroyed two houses of local residents at 16 Mile junction by setting them on fire.
  • In Yebyu Township of Taninthayi Region, anti-junta students and residents carried out a guerrilla protest on Wednesday morning.
  • In Longlone Township, a rally of Lower Yebyu village, marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday evening. They also called for official recognition for the NUG.
  • In Kanyone Gyune village of Longlone Township, there was a protest on Wednesday evening, “Only NUG is our government. Drive away the military watchdog”.
  • In Mon State, Mawlamyein youth made indoors strike for supporting PDFs as well as for uprooting the junta army.
  • In Pha-Kant Township of Kachin State, local residents of Lonekhine village expressed their objection to the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • In Moenyin, youth and students conducted a night strike on Tuesday, singing revolution songs in honour of the heroes who lost lives on 44 road in Yangon.
  • (11) Pao youth organizations released a statement on Wednesday, condemning PNO/PNA for their invasion in cooperation with the military junta and attacking PDFs/KNDF.
  • In Yegyi Township of Ayeyarwady Region, Win Naing Oo, allegedly an informer to the junta in Athoat, was shot by an unknown armed group at about 7:30 am Wednesday. Reportedly, he had a gunshot in his chest and died at hospital.

Ethnic Armed Organization

  • In Pha-Pun District; territory of KNU Regiment (5), there were 56 battles between KNLA and a combined force of junta army-BGF from 1st to 15th August. According to a KNU source, 34 junta soldiers died and 15 others were injured. On the side of KNLA, 3 members got injured.

Summary on 18th August

  • After the news came out that the military junta would make money notes, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that Nay Pyi Taw Council Area would be upgraded with facilities like underground railways in the city. Some economics experts were concerned about extreme inflation in such circumstances.
  • As for Myanmar people from all over the world and international friends of Myanmar, they had been supporting for the recognition of the NUG in the international community. They had also been trying for the accreditation of ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun in the upcoming meeting of the UN. Moreover, the NUG had been trying to bring life to their ministries.
  • Although the military junta tried to restrict Mandalay with the order not to go out between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, there were various rallies against the military dictatorship. In Sagaing, public protests had great momentum and so did armed revolution. There were also clearance activities of junta-pillars. In Chin State, local CDFs became powerful. On the other hand, the junta armed forces had been invading there with heavy manpower. In Kayin and Kayar states, there were battles due to the invasion of the junta army.
