Spring Revolution Daily News for 19 August 2022 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Natural Disaster Risks Management-NUG announced that they had provided aid worth of 231.49 million MMK to the needy including the IDPs in July. 
  • Gantgaw Township Public Administration announced on Wednesday that the public were to take refuge in a safe place and not to confront the junta armed forces when they enter villages. 
  • In Sagaing Region, Kawlin Township PDF announced on Wednesday that the public were to take caution on the Myitgyina-Shwebo Road as military tension was getting intense there. 

Revolution Activities 

  • Even amidst tight security measures of the military junta, a group of students and youth conducted a public campaign against the military dictatorship somewhere in Yangon on Thursday morning. 
  • In North Okkalapa Township, Divine Ranger Force conducted a bomb attack on the bunker in front of the junta army Unit (435) on Wednesday night. 
  • In Thanlyin Township, Soul Takers (Yangon Underground Force) carried out an attack with 2 time bombs on the junta administration office in Tamalone Village on Wednesday night. 
  • In Sagaing Region, Kalay General Strike conducted a guerrilla protest against the military dictatorship on Thursday afternoon. 
  • As a 525-day protest, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday. 
  • In Salingyi Township, Latbadaung Taung General Strike led a march for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Thursday morning, raising an anti-junta banner. 
  • On Monywa-Chaungoo road section, junta Pyusawti members were attacked with mines by local PDF at about 6:00 am Wednesday. Reportedly, 4 of them died and 2 others got injured. 
  • In Pale, a local guerrilla force opened gunfire on the junta army in front of the local market at about 5:00 pm Wednesday. 
  • In Taze Township, local PDFs announced on Thursday that four road sections in the area had been temporarily closed. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, Nyo Win Naing, allegedly a Pyusawti leader in Zigone, was attacked and killed at 5:30 am Wednesday while he was sitting in a tea-shop. 
  • In Tamu Township, a man from Tanan Village was taken away by a group of Pyusawti members on 15 August. 
  • In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, CDF-KKG Battlion-5 Gangaw Region cleared off two teachers in Min Village for being junta informers. 
  • In Gantgaw Township, Yaw PDF attacked the local police station in Min Village at 5:30 pm Wednesday. 
  • In Yesagyo Township, the junta army set fire to Ngatayaw Village starting from Wednesday morning. 
  • In the south of Pauk Township, there are thousands of war refugees and fire victims. Reportedly, they have been in need for their daily basic needs as it is the rainy season. 
  • On Thursday, Maubin PDF announced that they would keep their commitment to building a federal nation with freedom and peace in accordance with the aspiration of the public and they would try hard for the townspeople to get justice and security. 
  • In Dawei Township of Taninthayi Region, an unknown group attacked the junta army near the police station in Pakari Village on Wednesday night. 
  • In Myeik Township, a junta 100-household leader, allegedly a Pyusawti trainee, was shot dead near Myeik Shopping Center at 5:30 pm Wednesday. 
  • In Mon State, 4 gunmen attacked Thanphyu Zayat police station at about 7:00 pm Wednesday. Reportedly, 2 members of the junta police died. 
  • According to Basic Education General Strike Committee, Ko Nai Thiha Kyaw, a CEC member of BEGSC, was sentenced to 5 years in prison on the charge of Section 52 (a) under the anti-terrorism law. 
  • To raise funds for Burmese People Liberation Army, the army has been selling e-books of Sunflower Trauma by Poet Mg Saung Ka. 
  • The Students Army led by University Students Unions have been recruiting new members. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Phapun District under Karen National Union-KNU Brigade (5), there were 54 battles from 1 to 15 August. Reportedly, 43 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, there was a fighting between the junta BGF and KNLA on Thursday afternoon. 
  • At 2:00 pm Wednesday, a combined force of local PDF and ABSDF conducted a bomb attack on the junta inspection gate on entrance to Katha. 
  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, there was a heavy battle for two hours between KRU and the junta army on Wednesday evening. According to Karenni Revolution Union – KRU, no less than 6 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Fruso Township, a combined force of snipers attacked the junta army near Solyaku Village. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died on 14 and 16 August. 
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, there was a fighting between the junta army and KNLA+PDF at about 5:00 pm Wednesday. Reportedly, the military junta even had to use armoured vehicles for the heavy battle. 
  • On Thursday, CDF-Hualngoram announced that Reid-Titain-Kalay road, which had been closed due to military tension, was reopened. 

The Military Council 

  • The United Nations Special Envoy to Myanmar said that her meeting with the military junta was not recognizing them as the legitimate government. 
  • According to the United Nations Department, the UN Special Envoy to Myanmar called on the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing for the release of those in detention and a meeting with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. 
  • In the meeting with the junta leader on Wednesday, the UN Special Envoy gave him a copy of the United Nations Charter. 
  • On Wednesday, there was a meeting between the UN Special Envoy and the junta Minister of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw. 
  • In the press conference, the junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun said that they have been creating a new social media platform to replace Facebook which has been removing the information related to the military junta. 
  • On Wednesday, the junta propaganda leader said that they had been arranging to sue Japanese documentary maker on another charge under the electronic communications law. 
  • On Wednesday, the military junta announced that they had amended Article (46) Sub-section (a) related to retirement in the police law. 
  • The junta Central Bank of Myanmar instructed mobile financial service providers to take photos of their customers in secret and install CCTVs. 
  • The junta Union Supreme Court announced that they had allowed new courts to carry out judiciary activities in newly-established districts all over the country. 
  • The junta leader granted his son a permit to build a No. (1) 1000-bedded military hospital with helicopter landing zones in Mingaladone Township of Yangon Region. 

Summary on 18 August 

  • With regard to the requests by the UN Special Envoy, the junta leader was silent. On the other hand, the military junta did not feature the meeting with her. Judging from that, their unsuccessful meeting just ended up with no special outcome. 
  • The armed revolution was still in great momentum and the same was true for protests against the military dictatorship. Due to anti-junta attacks, the junta armed forces faced a great loss all over the country. 
  • In Kayin State, the junta army even had to use armoured vehicles in heavy fighting. However, junta soldiers ran away from the battlefields.
