The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On completion of refresher training in Southern Military Region No. (3) Dawna Column on Tuesday, the Union Prime Minister stated that they were getting competitive advantages in political and military affairs and thus, the military dictatorship was about to come to an end.
  • According to the NUG, the Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than joined the completion of the refresher training by the Dawna Column and provided them with the weapons.
  • In Salingyi Township in Sagaing Region, there was a battle between the junta army and PDFs near Hsar Tone Village at about 11:00 am on Monday. According to the NUG Ministry of Defence, 20 junta soldiers died.
  • On Tuesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration and responsible personnel to carry out interim public administration in the Kantbalu District of Sagaing Region.
  • At about 3:00 pm on Tuesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and the Committee Representing Regional Hluttaws.
  • In Tanintharyi Township under the influence of the NUG in Tanintharyi Region, local public administration organized a football match on Wednesday.
  • According to the Spring University Myanmar, CDM students, who do not want to join the junta’s education, can learn many foreign languages there.
  • On Sunday, the NUG Ministry of Education announced that it would soon release the final report by the team investigating the financial scandal of Free Online Education Institution Myanmar.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Mandalay Region, a rally of Pyigyi Dagun protested against the military dictatorship on Wednesday, holding anti-junta signs.
  • In Amarapura Township, there was a grenade attack on the junta General Administration Department at about 6:30 am on Monday. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among junta soldiers.
  • On Tuesday, 21 members of the Kyaukse-based revolution force completed their military training.
  • In Yesagyo Township in Magwe Region, a large number of Yelegyun people conducted a protest against the junta’s fake election on Wednesday.
  • In Gantgaw Township, a large number of junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members raided and took control of a PDF camp near Zahaw Stream at 8:30 am on Wednesday.
  • In Myaung Township in Sagaing Region, there was an attack with 40mm grenades on the junta armed forces in Kyaukyit Police Station at about 1:00 pm on Tuesday. Reportedly, seven junta soldiers were injured.
  • In Khin-U Township, a combined rally of local public administration, PDFs, education family and local people expressed their support for the NUG and against the junta’s election, holding anti-junta signs.
  • In Kani Township, a large number of local people expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • In Ye-U Township, Shwebo District PDF had to clear mines set by the junta army along the road.
  • In Yinmabin North, a rally of villagers marched for the restoration of democracy and against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • In Kani Township, youth from Rural Rebels provided medical care to the IDPs on Tuesday.
  • In Indaw Township, guerrillas conducted a warning attack with two mines on the election commission office at about 4:00 pm on Tuesday.
  • Banmauk Township PDF released a Code of Conduct for its members and serious action will be taken against those who fail to follow it.
  • On their 678th day of protest, a combined rally of local villagers from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • In Sagaing Township, the junta army raided and set fire to Tonebo Village at 10:00 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, a person was ruthlessly killed and 15 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • In Sagaing Township, there was a mine attack on a military truck at 2:00 pm on Tuesday. Reportedly, five junta soldiers died.
  • In Yetashay Township in Bago Region, there were battles between the junta army and PDFs on Monday and Tuesday. Reportedly, 40 junta soldiers, including three officers, died.
  • As a part of Nan Htike Aung military operation, a junta-appointed hundred-household leader was shot dead.
  • In Pathein Township in Ayeyarwady Region, the junta army shot dead a drunk man in Ward (6) on 14 January.
  • According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, 2,747 people lost their lives due to the junta armed forces until 17 January.
  • The Stay Safe Myanmar Fund organised a funding program to support those against the military junta.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • Dr. Nyo Htun Aung, the Second Military Officer in Chief of the Arakan Army (AA) will hold a public talk on Zoom about his revolutionary experiences for over 14 years and medical professionals on 20 January.
  • CDF- Hualngoram announced that it would take action against anyone helping implement the junta’s sham election.
  • The Chinland Information Center announced on Wednesday that the Indian government knew in advance about the junta’s air strikes on the headquarters of the Chin National Army, yet it did not provide any help.

The Military Council

  • According to military sources, General Chalermpol Srisawat, the Chief Military Officer of the Thai Army, will meet with the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing in Thandwe in Rakhine State in a few days.
  • From 18 to 27 January, a junta sports competition for basic education students will be held in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • The junta Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Department said that activities must be carried out to improve the jobs and income of rural people.
  • According to the junta Disaster Risks Management Department, 180 people lost their lives due to natural disasters from April to December.

Summary on 19 January

  • The NUG has been getting better at political and military performance. At the same time, it has increased the number of PDF members. In some areas, they managed to equip local PDFs with weapons.
  • The revolution has great momentum, the junta armed forces have been doing harm to the lives and property of the general public. According to Civil Society Organisations, the most violent activities happened in December compared to other months in 2022. In that month alone, nearly 10,000 houses were burnt down in Sagaing Region.
  • The public has been expressing its objection to the junta’s election. The NUG has called for protests against the faked election. If the election is conducted by force, there will be more serious conflicts.
