The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In the government meeting on Tuesday, the NUG Acting President stated that members of their government must not be different from their policies.
  • The NUG Minister of Federal Affairs was invited to the discussion on international affairs and Myanmar’s federal affairs, which will be held at the Asia Center at Seoul National University in South Korea on 21 October. Reportedly, he arrived there on Tuesday morning.
  • At the 77th United Nations General Assembly on Monday, Myanmar’s Permanent Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun stated that it was not enough for the international community and the UN just to release statements of concern for the deteriorating situation in Myanmar and that it was necessary for them to take effective action.
  • According to the NUG Ministry of Education, the interim basic education exams will be conducted in February and August 2023. Reportedly, those who would like to take such exams have to register between 29 October and 29 December 2022.
  • On Monday, there was an online meeting between the Committee on Women, Youth and Children under the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the NUG Ministry of Women, Youth and Children. Reportedly, they discussed matters to promote their cooperation.
  • At 10:00 am on Tuesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration and local defence forces from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region. Reportedly, the Joint Permanent Secretary of the Ministry called on LDFs not to have gaps in the public service sector.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Kandy Township in Sagaing Region, 14 prisoners from a local police detention center punched a policeman on duty, took away his gun and ran away at about 3:00 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, three of them were caught again.
  • On Tuesday, a combined rally of villagers from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • On the Sagaing-Monywa Road, a military convoy was attacked with mines four times on Monday afternoon. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among no less than five junta soldiers.
  • In Myinmu Township, the junta armed forces were attacked with mines on Monday afternoon. Reportedly, eight junta soldiers died.
  • On the Monywa-Mandalay Road, two people were knocked down by a car and died at 7:45 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, the owner of the car ran away at first and made contact later to take responsibility for the incident.
  • In Khin-U Township, local PDFs inspected a boat on the Ayeyarwady River on Tuesday morning and caught two drug dealers.
  • In Wetlet Township, a member of a local revolutionary force lost their life and another one was injured in an attack on a local police station in Shwebangone Village at 5:40 am on Monday.
  • In Tamu Township, the local Central Investigation Agency released a statement of apology for suspending their operations.
  • Based in Chaung-U Township, CHUWeapons Installation managed to produce projectiles that can be fired up to two miles.
  • In Yinmabin Township, local PDF Brigade (1) has been preparing to rebuild homes for the victims of fire, whose houses have been burnt down by the junta army.
  • In Hlaingthaya Township in Yangon Region, a bomb was found at the foot of Shwepyitha Bridge on Tuesday. Reportedly, the junta army blocked off the road.
  • In Yankin Township, there was a bomb explosion in front of the junta traffic office at about 1:30 pm on Tuesday.
  • In Thingangyun Township, the junta army shot at a man riding a bicycle and arrested him on Monday night.
  • In North Okkalapa Township, the Basic Education Students’ Union led an anti-junta campaign on Monday.
  • On 26 September, six young people, including the Chair of the LGBT Union Mandalay and the Chair of the Youth Union, were arrested in Yangon. Reportedly, they are still being held at the Yegyi-I investigation camp.
  • In Madayar Township in Mandalay Region, Eagle Squadron, a local special guerrilla force, lost two members in an accident during the testing of mortars on 10 October.
  • In Kyaukse District, the leader of a local PDF was arrested. As the junta army has been using his phone and KDDF Facebook Page, the Force reopened a new page.
  • In Pauk Township in Magwe Region, the junta army killed a CDM teacher named U Saw Tun Moe in Taungmyint Village on Monday morning. Reportedly, they cut off his head, hung it at the school door and took away his ring and watch.
  • In Yesagyo Township, there were two battles between the junta army and a local PDF near Taung-U Village on Monday morning. Reportedly, six junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • In Natmauk Township, there was a clash between the junta army and a local PDF near Fattawye Village at about 9:20 pm on Sunday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died and two guns were confiscated.
  • In Pathein in Ayeyarwady Region, the junta armed forces arrested over 30 local people on 14 October, accusing them of having contact with PDFs.
  • In Bago Township in Bago Region, an armed group attacked the police station at Mile Post (83) on the Yangon-Mandalay Highway on Monday morning.
  • In Hakha in Chin State, the sound of explosions and guns firing were heard at about 2:00 am on Tuesday. According to The Chin Journal, the Township Combined Office was on fire.
  • In Yay Township in Mon State, unknown gunmen attacked the junta police camp in Ziphyuthaung Village on Monday evening.
  • From 11 to 17 October, Demoso PDF successfully conducted training on carrying out special attacks.
  • According to a spokesperson of PDFs based in Shan South, they have been in a position to get contributions from the public only when they have carried out missions and made them known.
  • In Myawaddy in Kayin State, a mine with a timer detonater was found in a car near the junta district administration office and No. (1) Basic Education High School on Tuesday afternoon.
  • In Mae Sot on the Thai-Myanmar border, the short film- ‘The Road Not Taken’ was shown at Sarthule School from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Monday.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In the area under the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Brigade (2), there was a warning against the sale and the use of illegal drugs including poppy.
  • The spokesperson of the Karen National Union (KNU) said that despite the efforts to hold the election in 2023 as a political escape, the military junta would not make it under current circumstances. He also believed that the public would be against the junta election.
  • A spokesperson of the Chin National Army said that the military junta had been trying to crack down on local forces as they would like to hold elections in Chin State.
  • A spokesperson of the KNU said that the 17th KNU Conference must be conducted before the end of 2022 to select their new leaders.
  • On 11 October, the CDF-Hakha Council opened a local court to protect the property and rights of the public, preserve the rule of law in the area and bring justice to the people.
  • In Matupi Township in Chin State, a local education officer continued to cooperate with the military junta despite frequent warnings. Consequently, he was assassinated, according to CDF Matupi on Monday.
  • In Loikaw Township in Karenni State, no less than 15 junta soldiers died in local battles from 17 September to 15 October.
  • In KyarIn Seikgyi in Kayin State, 16 military officers and junta soldiers were captured. Among them was Pyay Sone, a child soldier aged 16.
  • In KyarIn Seikgyi Township, there were mortar and drone attacks on the junta army camp in Taungzune Village and the gate of the junta Border Guard Force- BGF on 10 October. Reportedly, five junta soldiers died and four others were seriously injured. One of their 60mm grenades was also damaged.
  • In Rakhine State, there was fighting between the junta army and Arakan Army (AA) near Kyauktaw on Monday night. Reportedly, a woman from a Muslim village was hit by mortar fire and lost her life.
  • In Kyaingtone Township in Shan East, the RCSS/SSA on Monday caught and arrested four men, including the second leader of the Maingkun People’s Army under the military junta in possession of guns and a large number of drugs.

The Military Council

  • In Hpa An in Kayin State, the junta leader stated that a Sport Complex would be established there for training and competitions in various kinds of sports.
  • In a meeting with MSME business owners in Kayin State, the junta leader said that it had been carrying out activities so that the national economy did not collapse and the public did not face losses.
  • Regarding the helicopter case, the military junta brought five charges against State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi under Section (55) of the anti-corruption law.
  • The military junta announced that the committee on drafting the law on protecting the establishment of a national market economy was set up to take action against the activities causing instabilities in the national market economy.
  • According to the military junta, 23 ships loaded with fuel oil and edible oil have been unloading at Yangon Port.
  • The junta Central Bank announced that it had revoked the license of a money exchanger for not following their instructions.
  • According to the Myanmar Banking Association, temporary restrictions on deposits and withdrawals as well as a complete ban have been applied to the bank accounts of suspicious people.
  • According to the Thilawa Special Economic Zone Management Committee under the military junta, 104 factories have been operating commercially in the economic zone.
  • On Monday, ships unloaded nearly 6 million gallons of fuel oil at Thilawa Port.
  • Starting from the first week of November, FDA Myanmar will review and approve the applications for Import Health Certificates via the E-Submission System.
  • According to the junta Myanmar Railway Department, they have prepared spare engines and carriages for special trains during the travel season.
  • In Tanintharyi Region, a fishing boat was on fire in the sea near Dawei on Sunday afternoon. According to the military junta, 13 boatmen were rescued by the junta navy.
  • In North Dagon Township of Yangon Region, the junta administrator of Ward (42) and the staff physically assaulted a man and a woman who had come there for a recommendation letter. The woman went live on Facebook. to report the incident.
  • Under the junta Ministry of Home Affairs, the junta armed forces and the staff of the General Administration have been the targets of attacks. Consequently, there have been departmental instructions for them to not go out if it is not necessary.
  • In Rakhine State, nine soldiers from the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (550) based in Ponnagyun ran away on Monday.
  • In Maungdaw in Rakhine State, the military junta has been setting up more gates and doing more inspections since 14 October. Reportedly, they have been confiscating mobile phones with VPN software installed.
  • In Minbya Township, no less than 10 civilians were injured and two people including a teacher died due to junta army mortar in local villages.
  • In Kalay Township in Sagaing Region, junta soldiers and police took away things from the house of Regional MP Daw Thant Wai Kyaw, which had been sealed off, on 15 October.
  • In Pekone Township in Shan South, junta soldiers were attacked with mortars on Tuesday morning. Consequently, some junta soldiers died.
  • Starting from 17 October, the military junta has banned the riding of motorbikes in Kayan Township in Yangon Region. Reportedly, the town was silent and deserted.

Summary on 19 October

  • As usual, the military junta targets civilians in attacks when they have suffered great losses. They have been doing this and committing war crimes in Minbya in Rakhine State and Pekone in Shan State.
  • In Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces have suffered great losses due to counterattacks and guerrilla attacks by revolutionary forces. There are now some areas where junta troops can no longer enter.
  • Even in Mon State with few revolutionary activities, there were frequent attacks on local police stations and mine attacks on the junta armed forces in recent days.
  • As for the NUG, they have been making an effort to set up administrations in Sagaing Region. They successfully set up administrations in some townships.
