Spring Revolution Daily News for 2 April 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In the congratulatory statement to Karenni National New Year Day, Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) expressed their appreciation for the loyalty and bravery of the Karenni people in the Spring Revolution. They added that despite being a battlefield, Karenni State would go down in history not only in the country but also in the world. 
  • The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and the NUG released a joint statement that they would be committed to the road map of the Union Aspiration until they can build a peaceful federal democratic union which can ensure freedom, justice and equality. 
  • At 1:00 pm Friday, there was a meeting (13/2023) between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administrative Teams. 
  • At 7:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting among the CRPH, the NUCC, the JCC Education and Ministry of Education-NUG to form the Interim Federal Education Council as soon as possible. 
  • At 1:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting between the Union Minister of Defence-NUG and local administration and defence forces from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army Regiment (33) arrested 6 people from Maung Taung Village. Reportedly, they killed four of them and discarded their bodies in the Muu River. 
  • On the border of Yinmabin Township and Salingyi Township, the junta armed forces have been invading 6 local villages. Reportedly, over 4500 people have had to run away. 
  • In Myaung Township, there were bomb attacks via drone on the junta army stationed in Swele-O Village. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers died. 
  • On Saturday, Taze Township General Strike marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Chanmya Thazi Township of Mandalay Region, a hundred-household leader was shot dead while he was having a birthday party. 
  • In Mingaladone Township of Yangon Region, there was a bomb attack at No. (2) inspection gate near Aung Mingalar Bus Terminal. Reportedly, a junta policeman was seriously injured and another one was slightly hurt. 
  • In Kayan Township, the junta army shot dead a motorbiker, claiming he was a PDF member. 
  • In Minhla Township of Bago Region, there was a clash between the junta army and the PDF at 7:30 am Friday. Reportedly, a junta soldier died. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 
In heavy fighting against Karenni Combined Force for two days, no less than 15 junta soldiers died and weapons were confiscated. 

The Military Council 

  • In Thantaunggyi Township of Kayin State, the junta army set fire to Thanmoe Taung Village at about 8:00 pm Friday. 
  • Despite the reference rate of the junta Central Bank at 2100 MMK per USD, the market rate has been increasing up to over 2850 MMK. Regarding the rumour that the Central Bank will set the reference rate to be 2500 MMK, they denied it. 
  • According to the junta propaganda media, the authorities removed the sign board of Kamayut Township NLD Office in Yangon Region on Friday. 
  • The junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun said that there have been attacks targeting the monetary system of Myanmar. 
  • The junta-appointed Chief Minister of Kachin State provided support to those from Tatgone and Nangway IDP camps to return home. 
  • In Sittway of Rakhine State, the junta group led by Min Aung Hlaing conducted a religious ceremony at Lawka Nandar Stupa on Friday. 
  • On Thursday, Daw Thet Htar Hnaung, the NLD MP in Moenyin Township of Kachin State, was sentenced to 11 years in prison. 

Summary on 1 April 

  • Even amidst objection from the international community, the military junta has continued their genocide and war crimes, killing civilians. 
  • After the military coup led by Min Aung Hlaing, there has been dramatic depreciation of the Kyat along with the significant increase in fuel oil prices. Without admitting their mismanagement, the military junta has been blaming business people.
