The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Acting President of the NUG said that they had been preparing for lawsuits against military criminals, including Min Aung Hlaing, at international courts with international judiciary practice for their violence against the public.
  • The NUG announced that they, in cooperation with KPICT, started to sell bonds both locally and abroad.
  • In his new-year speech, the Acting President of the NUG said that the military was globally notorious to be a terrorist organization due to a group of dictators with a thirst for power. Therefore, he called on the people’s soldiers to leave the junta army and join the public led by the NUG.
  • In their new-year statement, CRPH called on the public to keep unity and efforts in the new year for the end of the military dictatorship and the establishment of a new federal democratic nation for diversity and inclusion of all ethnic people in the very near future.
  • U Yi Mon, Minister of Defence-NUG, said that 2022 would be the year with victories for the revolution.
  • In his new-year speech, Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than said that the revolution was getting successful due to efforts with strong determination and that the rest was just to clear the military junta.

Revolution Activities

  • The NLD communication team announced that nearly 500 NLD members had been in detention since the military coup.
  • According to Taunggyi Township USDP, about 100 former soldiers and USDP members have to serve as military detectives in Southern Shan State.
  • In Yangon, people chanted ‘The revolution must win’ at the transition period from 2021 to 2022 and cursed the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
  • In North Okkalapa Township of Yangon, a group of unknown people threw a grenade at police station at about 6:50 pm Friday. After the incident, the junta army shot dead some youth and arrested some others.
  • At about 9:30 pm Friday, there was an attack with two grenades on Ward (94) office. Reportedly, some members of the junta armed forces were injured.
  • In Thingangyun Township, the junta army acted violently in Ngamoeyait Ward and arrested some people at about 9:30 pm Friday.
  • At about 6:25 pm Friday, a military convoy was blown up on Yadanarbone Road in Ward (53) of South Dagon Township.
  • In Latbadaung Area of Salingyi Township in Sagaing Region, upcountry women made a protest against the military dictatorship upon completion of onion growing on Saturday, chanting ‘The NUG is our government’.
  • In Pale Township, the junta armed forces raided Latpukan Village and took away the public’s money, food, clothes and furniture.
  • In a village of Ayadaw Township, local people led a march against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In the north of Ayadaw Township, villagers conducted a new-year dawn strike against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • As a 328-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday, wishing safety for PDFs and cursing the junta army.
  • In Wuntho Township, Namkam police camp was on fire at about 10:50 pm Friday. Although local people came out to put out the fire, they returned home without doing so when they came to know that it was police camp.
  • In Kawlin, the junta army shot mortars wildly on Saturday morning. Consequently, a novice from Mingala Zayyone monastery lost his life as he was hit with a piece of shrapnel from a mortar.
  • As a 297-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Taungdwingyi of Magwe Region, Zaw Zaw Aung, township USDP secretary, was shot dead at about 5:30 pm Friday.
  • In Pakkoku Township, there was a protest against the military dictatorship at dawn on new-year’s day.
  • In Phakant Township of Kachin State, local people protested against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Genting Highland of Malaysia, Myanmar youth expressed their desire against the military dictatorship at about 2:00 pm Saturday, holding anti-junta signs.
  • On Saturday, Mandalay Monks’ Union carried out a new-year strike against the military dictatorship, chanting ‘The revolution must win’.
  • In Ye-U Township, there was a fighting between the junta army and local PDF near Nyaungnikan Wetphyu on Saturday evening. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died and a guerrilla member lost his life.
  • In their new-year statement, Spring Revolution Myanmar Muslim Network said that they were getting ready to join hands with revolution forces for the end of the military dictatorship in 2022.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Thatone Township under KNU Regiment (1), the junta armed forces were attacked with mines three times by KNLA on 29th and 30th December. According to the KNU, 9 junta soldiers died and 12 others were injured.
  • In Dimawso Township of Kayah (Karenni) State, about 30 junta soldiers died on Friday in the fighting between the junta armed forces and a combined force of Karenni Army. According to the KNDF, a Karenni member was seriously injured.
  • In Fruso Township, a combined force of KA and KNDF attacked the junta army on Friday noon. In that 3-hour fighting, 3 junta soldiers died.
  • In his new-year speech, the Chair of the KIO said that the military junta was like an isolated organization. He also called on every Myanmar citizen to cooperate for a good political result amidst Myanmar’s complicated political affairs.
  • The KIO Chair said that prospects for a new political scene could be seen for good results amidst Myanmar’s complex political issues due to involvement of EAOs in the mountains and the public from the mainland in the revolution against the military junta. He also praised all anti-junta organizations and people.
  • In Kawkarait of Kayin State, the KNLA confiscated weapons, uniforms and belongings left by the junta army in their land-clearance operation on Saturday morning.

The Military Council

  • The military junta falsely claimed that weapons confiscated in some upcountry cities, including Mandalay, Sagaing, Kachin and Chin, were related to KIA and TNLA.
  • In his new-year wish, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that new steps for peace must get started this year and it was contained in the 4th point of their 5-point action plan. He also invited all stakeholders for discussion on peace.
  • The junta leader said that their government would make an effort for stability, development, prosperity, peace and the emergence of a union based on a federal democracy in 2022. He also called for the public’s cooperation.
  • Under the words of the junta leader, Thein Nyunt, a junta member who had lost in the election, said that CRPH, NUG and PDFs must be put to an end.
  • The junta Ministry of Science and Technology announced that technology universities, computer universities, colleges and institutions would open on 6th January.

Summary on 1st January

  • Despite attacks in Kayin State with a large number of the junta armed forces, the military junta had a great loss there with junta soldiers of low motivation. The junta leader said the word ‘peace’ every now and then. In reality, the junta army conducted a variety of terrorist acts all over the country.
  • With reliance on the junta leader and his personal feelings, Thein Nyunt said that CRPH, NUG and PDFs must be uprooted. For a political seat, he did not hesitate to confiscate his own son’s house and send him to prison. Such a ruthless person is just a piece of rubbish to the country.
  • As for Kayah, Kayin, Chin and Sagaing, they had battles against the junta armed forces. The military lost their soldiers and so did local PDFs.
  • On New Year’s eve, the new-year resolution of Myanmar people could be clearly seen for uprooting the military junta in the new year. Consequently, the victory is supposed to be at hand.
