Spring Revolution Daily News for 2 September 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • The NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration conducted a meeting on Thursday. Reportedly, the Chairman of the Committee and Union Prime Minister stated that the taxes collected in the townships with the interim administration has been used in military and service sectors in respective areas. 
  • In Htandabin Township of Bago Region, a combined force of PDFs attacked the junta army gate at Sitaung River Bridge in Myoso Village. According to Special Commando Force on Friday, 8 junta soldiers died. 
  • The NUG Pathein Township People’s Administration called on the public to boycott the junta’s illegitimate 20000-MMK bank notes and to contribute to the financial battle against the military dictatorship. 
  • On Thursday, Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG conducted conflict management training for Township People’s Administration from Taninthayi Region and Ayeyarwady Region. 
  • On Thursday afternoon, there was a meeting between the Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration-NUG and District People’s Administration. 
  • The Spring Lottery with the Flag of Victory launched winning numbers for August. Through the programme of a ticket per CDM staff member, there were prizes for 100 lakh MMK, 15 lakh MMK, 5 lakh MMK and 1 lakh MMK. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin protested against Wan Bao Company on Friday, holding a banner against the killing of people for copper. 
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta armed forces invaded the area on Thursday morning. Consequently, over 8000 local people have had to run away and they have been in need of emergency help. 
  • In Khin-U Township, there was a guerrilla attack on a junta troop of over 100 junta soldiers near Kantharyar Village on Wednesday evening. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died. 
  • Sittaung PDF based in Naypyidaw conducted a one-month campaign from 31 August to 30 September to buy 338 sniper gun. 
  • On Thursday, Myanmar Political Prisoners’ Network conducted a movement for prison parcel delivery to political prisoners. 
  • In Chanaye Thazan Township of Mandalay Region, there was a bomb attack at the regional health department on Thursday afternoon. Reportedly, 5 junta staff members including the assistant director were injured. 
  • In Khin-U Township, there was a mine attack on a junta troop near Longshay Village on Thursday evening. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died and their bodies were burnt in the village. 
  • In Taungthar Township and Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, and Yebyu Township of Taninthayi Region, former soldiers, hundred-household leaders and administrators were shot on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, two of them died. 

In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, the leader of Red Dragon PDF took his own life on Wednesday. 

  • In Myaing Township, there were attacks via mines and drone on a junta convoy on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, a junta soldier died. 
  • In Gantgaw Townshipk, the junta army has conducted four-shortage movement by blocking local roads since 26 August. Consequently, the cost of living has skyrocketed and local people have run out of basic food items. 
  • In Shweku Township of Kachin State, there was an attack on the junta army camp in Kyaukgyi Village at about 3:00 am Friday. Reportedly, a large number of weapons were confiscated. Afterwards, the junta army conducted aerial bombing. 
  • On behalf of a donor family from Singapore, U Zaw Min Htike, the focal person of Rural Land, provided rice to the displaced people in Demoso Township of Karenni State on Friday. 
  • In Washington D.C of the United States, there was an anti-junta protest in front of the Myanmar Embassy. Reportedly, they chanted ‘no military dog is wanted’ when the junta military consul Aung Thurain came out. 
  • The Blood Money Campaign has been collecting the signatures of Myanmar people to send the letter to the Singapore Government, calling for no sales of military equipment and technology to Myanmar’s junta army. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • In Nyaunglebin District of Bago Region, the junta armed forces fired mortars and conducted air strikes on Wednesday. According to Karen National Union, a civilian got injured and the residents of 8 local villages had to run away. 
  • In Dawei Township of Taninthayi Region, Kawthoolei Army announced that the junta-related businesses must stop in Ashaytaw Area, Kamaungthwe Area and Banchaung Area within September. 
  • In Myawaddy Township under the KNU Brigade (6) in Kayin State, there was an attack on the junta’s Okkayitta Camp on Wednesday morning. According to Cobra Column, 5 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Shweku Township of Kachin State, a combined force of Kachin Independence Army and PDF attacked a junta army camp in Kyaukgyi Village on Friday. Reportedly, they managed to take control of it. 
  • On Thursday, the KNPP announced that those in the junta armed forces in Karenni State can contact them if the junta soldiers would like to defect to them or join the CDM. 

The Military Council 

  • On Thursday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing stated that the entrance fee would not be collected from those who come to pay homage to Maravijaya Buddha Image in Dakhina Thiri Township of Naypyidaw. 
  • In the tenure of the military junta, there were meetings among the junta peace team, 7 signatories of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, 3 non-signatories and political parties. Reportedly, they agreed to the amendment of 21 articles contained in the 2008 Constitution. 
  • The junta Ministry of Planning and Finance announced that they would seize the winning prizes of Aungbale Lottery as public’s property unless the winners fail to withdraw by 29 September. 
  • On Thursday, the junta Central Bank of Myanmar announced that they had arrested and investigated a person for the sale of USD via social media. 
  • The junta Health Minister claimed that the government had allocated 16 million USD for the procurement of ART and related medicines for 2022-23 fiscal year. 
  • On Thursday, there was a meeting between the junta Minister of Immigration and Population and Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan, the regional coordinator of the UNFPA to Myanmar, in Naypyidaw for cooperation. 
  • According to Justice for Myanmar, the junta air force will host the ASEAN Air Chiefs Conference (AACC). 
  • In Yangon Region, the restaurants with musical concerts must register with the military junta and pay tax as well. 
  • On Tuesday, the junta Union Supreme Court rejected the special pleas of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint. 

Summary on 2 September 

  • The military junta has had peace talks only with the EAOs without fighting against them. Consequently, their discussions have not produced any fruitful results. 
  • In Mandalay with rare underground movements, there were bomb attacks again.
