The Military Council

  • Internal Revenue Department announced that up to 70% of the sales of lottery tickets would be allocated as prize money starting from 30th lottery opening day on 1st September. Those who win the lottery would be allowed to withdraw all the money without any restrictions.
  • U Wunna Mg Lwin, the junta Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended a Pledging Conference on ASEAN providing humanitarian aid to Myanmar. In that meeting, pledges were made to give financial support; 700,000 US Dollars, 5 million Australian Dollars and 370,000 Euros.
  • U Hla Moe, the junta Union Minister of Cooperative and Rural Development, said that action would be taken for the availability of clean water in 3083 villages in the current fiscal year.
  • The junta Minister U Aung Than Oo instructed staff members of the electricity department to be able to fully supply power to stay-at-home families, in addition to hospitals and quarantine centres, at the time of controlling COVID-19 infections.
  • U Min Min Oo, the junta Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, said that the exports of basically-sawn timber would not be allowed in 2023. Only half-finished products would be allowed for export.
  • Dr. Thet Thet Khine, the junta Union Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, said that they had been networking for employment opportunities for the victims of human trafficking.

  • In Mindat of Chin State, the junta armed forces put restrictions on rice transportation. For the transportation from other towns, they allowed only a limited amount of rice for each person.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to the NUG, their Ministry of Defense had been implementing a project on earning $5 million revolution activities which would put an end to the military junta. They also called for the contribution of the public.
  • Man Win Khine Than, Union Prime Minister - NUG, sent a statement on the occasion of 75th Independence Day of India.
  • U Aung Myo Min, Union Minister of Human Rights, said that the violence committed by the junta armed forces in Kani area, namely destroying villages and the mass murder of civilians, could be claimed as a war crime.
  • Via a post on his social media on Thursday, the Acting President said that their radio programme would be broadcast soon to let the people know key information from the NUG and not to lose touch with the public under any circumstances.

Revolution Activities

  • According to an announcement on Wednesday, there were battles between the junta armed forces and a combined force of CNDF-Alliance in Phalan and Kalay townships. In the fighting, almost 40 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Taninthayi Region, the youth led a night strike against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • According to local residents, it was true that some soldiers from a regiment in Dawei had run away with weapons on Thursday morning and joined the CDM.
  • In Yinmabin District of Sagaing Region, local residents of a village made a farming strike against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Gantgaw Township, the junta armed forces raided Hnanka village on Wednesday evening. They stole valuable things and destroyed houses. Moreover, they kicked and beat an old man aged 72.
  • A convoy of over 40 military trucks was attacked with mines by local PDFs near Kan village as they were on their way to Kalay on Kalay-Gantgaw road. Reportedly, 2 military trucks were damaged and about 30 junta soldiers died in the incident.
  • In Tantsi Township, Win Htain and Mg Han, allegedly informers to the junta in Kapaunggya village, were killed near Thabyechaung on Wednesday night.
  • In Tantsi Township, the dead bodies of 2 USDP members and allegedly Pyusawti members in Kapaunggya village were found on Thursday afternoon.
  • On Thursday morning, Kalay townspeople marched in the rain and expressed their desire against the military watchdog.
  • In Tantsi Township, a rally of youth, in cooperation with farmers from a village, conducted a farming strike against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • On Wednesday night, Mandalay Monks’ Union recited Parittas for the public as usual and protested against the military dictatorship.
  • Despite lockdown by the junta armed forces in Mandalay with the excuse of COVID-19, Mandalay Monks’ Union marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • On Thursday morning, a rally of Mandalay youth, in cooperation with other forces, made a powerful protest against the military watchdog.
  • On Thursday, a rally of Mandala University Students expressed their objection to the military dictatorship.
  • A rally of Chan/Zi in Unity carried out an anti-junta march, “Only NUG is our government. Support NUG”.
  • In Myingyan Township, the junta armed forces arrested and killed Ko Thet Naing Oo aged 30 in Kyaukkan village on Wednesday night.
  • In Chanmya Thazi Township, there was a bomb explosion at the religious hall where overnight guest list had to be reported, at about 4:30 pm Thursday. Reportedly, a person died in the incident and no less than 5 people, including a 100-household leader, were injured.
  • In Kachin State, the junta army Ka-La-Ya (58) in Winemaw shot mortars at about 8:30 pm Wednesday. Some mortars fell and exploded in a near-by village named Kawan. According to a local source, some houses were damaged.
  • In Pha-Kant Township, local residents of Lonekhine village marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Kayar State (Karenni area), a large number of the junta armed forces had been conducting invasion. They arrested local residents and used them as human shields along their way. Reportedly, 29 villagers had to suffer such violence so far.
  • In Yezagyo Township of Magwe Region, two bombs exploded in the compound of the General Administration Department at about 9:00 am Thursday.
  • In Yezagyo Township, two Pyusawti members in Min village were shot dead on Wednesday evening.
  • In Gantgaw Township, a convoy of military trucks was attacked with mines on Wednesday. Reportedly, about 30 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • According to AAPP, the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing killed 1006 innocent people between 1st February and 18th August.
  • In Yangon Region, the junta armed forces beat and arrested no less than 20 young people in Sanchaung and Kamayut townships on Wednesday night as they were checking the overnight guest list.
  • In Hlaing Township, the youth led a march on Insein road on Thursday and protested against the military junta.
  • In Dagon Seikkam Township, a couple, allegedly informers to the junta in Aunglan street, were shot at about 11:15 am Thursday. According to local residents, the woman died in the incident.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Chin State, many Paletwa residents, who had been attending warfare training conducted by the AA, ran away. Consequently, thorough investigations were made in near-by villages, threatening local residents with weapons.
  • Due to the battles between a combined force of SSPP-TNLA and RCSS, 102 local residents, including pregnant women and disabled people, had to run away.
  • Although COVID-19 infection decreased significantly in Rakhine State, the ULA extended the stay-at-home period for one more week as an effort to reduce infection.
  • As response against the administration and judiciary of ULA/AA in Rakhine State, the junta armed forces had been conducting military operations and threatening acts. Therefore, General Tun Myat Naing, Chief of AA, said that they had been watching with caution.

Summary on 19th August

  • To compete against the Spring Lottery, the military junta raised the amount of prize money for their lottery. They gave an incentive of full withdrawal of the prize money. Although they tried to bring life to their administration, they did not make it in most departments 6 months after the coup.
  • As for the NUG, they have been taking action in various ways to put an end to the military junta. After the Spring Lottery, they carried out more fund-raising activities. Besides that, they tried to broadcast a radio programme to inform the public about revolution activities. It was an effort of the NUG not to lose touch in case of the internet shutdown by the military junta in the revolution.
  • In Chin State, the junta armed forces had a great loss due to powerful attacks of local CDFs in recent days. Consequently, a large number of junta soldiers came to the villages around Mindat. In Sagaing Region, public protests had great momentum and so did clearance activities of junta informers. On the other hand, the junta armed forces had been oppressing local residents. In Mandalay, there were still protests amidst the restrictions.
  • In Rakhine State, AA had influence on local people. They have been trying to increase their influence in the region.
