Spring Revolution Daily News for 20 September 2022 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • The NUG Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment announced that it would carry out a project themed Spring Mandalay Investment. 
  • The NUG Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Risks Management stated that it had provided humanitarian aid worth 259.40 million MMK in August 2022. 
  • According to the NUG, 60 junta soldiers died in battles on Sunday alone. 
  • To help finance heavy fighting against the junta army in Chin State and Magwe Region, Dancing with Ladies have started their third fundraising project and have collected 48% of their target so far. 
  • According to Myeik District PDFs, they have been fighting against the junta armed forces since the NUG declared D-Day. Reportedly, 236 junta soldiers died and 278 others were injured in a year. 

Revolutionary Activities 

  • In Butalin Township in Sagaing Region, the junta army raided Aungtha Village on Sunday morning. Reportedly, they set fire to almost the whole village including the monastery. 
  • On Monday, a combined rally of Kalay people and VAKOK CNDF marched for the UN to keep Myanmar’s Ambassador to the UN, U Kyaw Moe Tun. 
  • On their  557th day of protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Monday. 
  • In Monywa Township, a rally of Western Chindwin led a march near the junta army camp on the Nyaungbingyi to Gantgaw road section, holding signs saying: "UN, Prove Your Existence for Justice." 
  • On Monday, a rally of Kalay people expressed its desire for the United Nations to keep Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun. 
  • In Kalaywa Township, an unknown armed group conducted an attack on the junta police camp in Masein Village at about 5:00 am on Sunday. Reportedly, four policemen died and so did a son of the police officer in charge. 
  • In Monywa, a couple were shot by two motorcyclists at Nandawun Market at about 9:30 am Monday. Reportedly, the man died and his wife was seriously injured. 
  • In Monywa, a man was shot dead in Satmuzone Ward on the bypass at about 10:00 am on Monday. 
  • In Pale Township, a combined force of 16 local PDFs attacked the junta police station and general administration office on Saturday evening. Reportedly, six junta members died. 
  • In Myaung Township in Sagaing Region and in Pakkoku Township in Magwe Region, some groups pretending to be local PDFs have been demanding money in a threatening way. 
  • In Saw Township, a rally of 2,000 local people expressed its desire for the UN to keep Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun and against the military junta, on Monday morning. 
  • In Magwe Region, the Basic Education Students’ Union led anti-junta talks on Monday. 
  • In Taungtha Township of Mandalay Region, the administrator of Thaya Myein Village and another villager were shot dead at about 6:00 am on Monday. 
  • On Monday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas. 
  • In Madayar Township, the junta army arrested some brick-makers on Sunday night. 
  • In Nattalin Township of Bago Region, members of Phoenix D.F expressed their desire for the United Nations to keep U Kyaw Moe Tun as Myanmar’s Ambassador. 
  • At about 12:00 pm on Sunday, Taungoo District PDF attacked the junta army invading the area of Bago Mountain Range. Reportedly, a junta soldier died. 
  • In Hpakant in Kachin State, there was a rally in support of Myanmar’s Ambassador to the UN U Kyaw Moe Tun as well as the KIA, PDF and NUG on Monday. They also protested against the military dictatorship. 
  • On Monday, Mobye PDF announced that local battles could break out anytime as the junta armed forces were mobilized all over the town. 
  • In Lashio in northern Shan State, the NSSAA detonated bombs at the junta traffic police office in Ward (1) and the junta vehicle registration office at entrance to the town. 
  • In Moemaik Township, there was a bomb attack on the local court at about 2:00 pm on Monday. Reportedly, some cars and motorbikes were damaged. However, casualty numbers are still unknown. 
  • To supply weapons for Shan South PDF Regiment (1008), 470 lakh MMK reportedly needs to be raised within 15 days. 
  • On Monday, a rally of anti-junta monks conducted a movement, holding signs against the inhumane attacks of the junta army at schools. 
  • In Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, the NLD (OC) International and Myanmar families donated 61 pieces of jewelry to Saffaron Sayardaw for the Spring Revolution on Sunday. 
  • The IUF ( International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Worker’s Associations) conducted a photo campaign in support of the NUG in its diplomatic battle at the UN. 

Ethnic Armed Organisations 

  • In a press conference on Monday, the second Chief Military Officer of the Arakan Army (AA) claimed that there were good outcomes from his meeting with United Wa State Army (UWSA). 
  • Dr. Nyo Tun Aung, second Chief Military Officer of the AA, called on the general public including ethnic Rakhine people to watch out for the propaganda trap of the military junta. 
  • On Monday, an AA spokesperson stated that the military junta had been planning to set fire to Mrauk-U in Rakhine State. 
  • In a press conference on Monday, an AA spokesperson claimed that there were no PDFs in Rakhine State or any military cooperation with local PDFs from bordering areas. 
  • U Khine Thuka, the AA spokesperson, said that they would accept Rohingya refugees who had fled to Bangladesh. 
  • The AA spokesperson claimed that more than 9,000 junta soldiers were mobilized in Maungdaw Township and Buthidaung Township where there was heavy fighting. 
  • According to the AA spokesperson, no less than 10 soldiers from the junta army, defected to them with their weapons and there was much localised fighting. 
  • In Hpapun District under the Karen National Union Brigade (5), 51 junta soldiers, including officers, died in local battles from 1 to 15 September. 
  • For students in the area under the Chin National Organization (CNO), the CNO education department has been publishing textbooks, which will soon be distributed to the village schools. 
  • On Saturday, the CDF-Hakha Council announced that 419 junta soldiers had died in battles in the area within 18 months. 

The Military Council 

  • Reportedly, a junta press conference will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday. 
  • Dr. Aunggyi, the junta Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, said that they would discuss the matter of making value-added products from Russian sea fish in Myanmar and exporting such products to Russia. 
  • The junta Central Bank stated that the transactions worth of over 200 lakh MMK in the local gold market must be carried out only through the banking system. 
  • On Monday, the junta transportation department announced that it would carry out license extensions without vehicle checks until the end of the year. 
  • In Myitkyina Township in Kachin State, the junta armed forces shot dead a Lisu ethnic man and immediately burned his body on Sunday in Arlan Village on the road to the confluence of the N'mai (Nam Gio) and Mali Rivers that marks the start of the Ayeyarwady River. 

Summary on 20 September 

  • In terms of military performance, the AA has been getting the better of the junta army in Rakhine State. Reportedly, some junta soldiers gave their arms to the AA. As for the junta armed forces, they cannot mobilize as many soldiers as they want since they are fighting all over the country. 
  • The NUG has been gaining strong support for diplomatic battles with the international community. Rallies by Myanmar people to express their feelings to the international community were held both locally and globally.
