The National Unity Government (NUG)

 

  • According to United Bonds, the NUG bonds can now be bought for Karenni State.
  • At 7:00 pm Friday, there was the first meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and the Kachin Political Interim Coordination Team-KPICT.
  • Special Advisory Committee-Myanmar released a statement that they hope the UN Special Envoy to Myanmar would have a constructive and legitimate meeting with the NUG as well after her meeting with the military junta.

Revolution Activities

  • In North Okkalapa Township of Yangon Region, a hundred household leader was shot in Ward (2) at about 11:00 am Saturday.
  • In Tontay, a seller was shot by a gunman at close range in the local market on Saturday morning.
  • On the other side of Kyimyindine, there was an explosion at a traditional liquor shop in Satsan Ward at about 5:00 pm Friday. Reportedly, 6 young men died in the incident.
  • On Friday, Octopus Youth Network conducted Yangon Night's LED Strike with LED words on the 565th day after the military coup.
  • In Sagaing Region, Kalay people protested against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • In Monywa, there were anti-junta protests on the streets on Saturday.
  • In Ayadaw Township, the junta army set fire to the public’s houses in Kaungthit Village, including 6 houses of the families of junta Captain Htein Lin and junta sergeant Kyaw The Oo.
  • In Monywa Township, the junta armed forces were attacked on their way to clear the mines set by local PDFs on Thursday. According to South Monywa PDF, 22 junta soldiers died.
  • At about 1:00 pm Friday, local defence forces attacked a junta vessel on its way back from Kangyigone Village in Chaung-U Township.
  • Wandwin PDF leader said that due to a driver from Arkhatha Express, 3 PDF members had lost lives in an attack at Sagaing Bridge the previous day. He added that they would take action against those cars seen on the Mandalay-Pyawbwe Road.
  • In Pauk Township of Magwe Region, the junta army raided and burnt a local PDF camp on 13 August. Reportedly, the loss was worth about 500 lakh MMK.
  • On Saturday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement.
  • In Myaungmya of Ayeyarwaddy Region, two bombs exploded in front of the Livestock and Fishery Department at about 8:20 pm Friday. Reportedly, junta soldiers ran like headless chickens.
  • In Nattalin Township of Bago Region, Thayawaddy District PDF attacked the junta army stationed in Lemain Village Group.
  • In Yebyu Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army in Kaloneta Village ill-treated and ruthlessly killed Ko Thant Zin Htwe aged 19.
  • In Hpakant of Kachin State, local people marched against the military dictatorship on the one-year anniversary of the internet blackout. They also showed their support for the KIA, PDF and NUG.
  • In Moegaung, there was an explosion at Jade Hall in No. (2) Basic Education High School at about 8:00 am Saturday.
  • In Moenyin, the junta armed forces sealed off the houses of NLD MPs and supporters.
  • In Karenni State, 400 junta soldiers were mobilized in recent days and they got ready an offensive.
  • In Mabaing Township of Shan North, there was a black ribbon campaign at a CDM school on Saturday, showing their disapproval of violence and killings inside of prison.
  • Black Hero Guerrilla Force-BHGF called for the public’s contribution to the 100-mine project.
  • India for Myanmar called on the Indian government not to send anti-junta activists and refugees to the Myanmar military junta.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Chin State, the military junta was attacked at the exit of Tantalan on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died.
  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State under control of Karen National Union-KNU Brigade 6 there was a battle between the junta army and Cobra Troops on Friday morning. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers died and 2 others were caught alive.

The Military Council

  • On Friday, the military junta stated that the UN Special Envoy had released non-constructive one-sided statement after her meeting with the junta leader.
  • In the meeting with the UN Special Envoy, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they would carry out the activities based on the responses after the legal proceedings of Daw Aung San Su Kyi. He added that although they could take more action against her, they showed mercy on her.
  • On Friday, the military junta announced that the union government had been reformed together with the transfer of some union ministers.
  • On Friday, the military junta announced that they had allowed the resignation of the junta Minister of Immigration and Population, Minister U Chit Naing, Chair and Vice-Chair of CBM- the junta Central Bank.
  • Daw Than Than Swe, Vice-Chair of the junta Central Bank who had been shot once, was promoted to be the Chair of CBM.
  • Dr. Mg Mg Naing, the junta Chair of Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, was transferred as the junta Chair of Union Civil Service Board.
  • U Than Swe, the junta Chair of Union Civil Service Board, was transferred to be the junta Chair of anti-corruption commission.
  • The military junta allowed the resignation of the junta Chief Minister of Chin State and replaced him with an army psychiatrist.
  • Dr. Soe Win was appointed to be the junta Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth.
  • On Friday night, the military junta announced that 4 junta state and regional ministers for border and security had been replaced.
  • The second junta leader Soe Win said that 31 billion MMK had been confiscated from illegal trade from January to July.
  • On Friday, the junta Chair of Union Election Commission said that they had already started their preparations for the upcoming election.
  • The junta Higher Education Department announced the courses and exam dates for the arts students of University of Distance Education for 2022 academic year.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the military junta handed over 10 PDF members who were not charged with any crimes to their parents in Yangon Region.
  • Despite a large number of crimes in Ayeyarwaddy Region, the junta armed forces have been turning a blind eye to them.
  • The military junta instructed ticket agents to gather full personal data of passengers.
  • The junta Nay Pyi Taw Council informed local departments that they had to buy hand-held mine detectors for security and be wary to prevent violent attacks on their offices.

Summary on 20 August

  • The junta leader made some changes to his government the previous day. He just remained to be the leader of their government. Khin Yi, who used to be in favor with the military junta, is no longer in their new government.
  • With the craving for the position of the President, the junta leader might conduct the election in a rush so that he could become the President. On the other hand, he might make Khin Yi promote extreme nationalism to cause fighting among the public.
  • With battlefields all over the country, the junta army strengthened their armed forces in Karenni State in recent days. Consequently, there might soon be battles in the area.
  • In Kayin State, revolution forces conducted counter-defence whereas the junta armed forces strengthened their troops to invade the areas under the control of the KNU. Consequently, there might soon be heavy fighting there.
