The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Saturday, the Ministry of Health- NUG stated that it would conduct an investigation into the death of Dr. Zaw Htwel Aung, a CDM doctor and political prisoner.
  • According to the Military Headquarters under the Ministry of Defence- NUG on Saturday, the combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and PDFs attacked the two junta army camps in Moatpalin Village of Kyaikto Township in Mon State.
  • According to the Military Headquarters under the Ministry of Defence- NUG on Saturday, a combined force of PDFs conducted bomb attacks via drone on the junta police station in Ngamya Village of Ngazun Township and the junta army camp in Nyaungto Village of Myingyan Township in Mandalay Region. Reportedly, a captain and an administrator died.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe led to an anti-junta march on Sunday.
  • On Sunday, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against Wanbao Copper Mining Company in association with the military junta.
  • In Salingyi Township, the S&C Social Group provided food to displaced people on Sunday.
  • In Tigyaint Township, there was a battle near Kwingyi Village at about 9:00 am Sunday. As the junta army suffered great losses, they conducted attacks via two Mi-35 helicopters.
  • In Kalay Township, unexploded mortars shot by the junta army were found in Satkant Village on Sunday morning. Reportedly, they were cleared by the mine clearance operation team.
  • In Shwebo Township, there were two attacks on the two junta troops. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.
  • On the border of Phyuu Township and Kyaukdagar Township in Bago Region, there was a mine attack on a junta ration train on Friday morning. Afterwards, there was also an attack on the junta army on their way for security. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died.
  • In Yebyu Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army, which had been temporarily stationed at the Standing Buddha Image, opened fire, injuring 4 people. Reportedly, a woman was in a critical condition.
  • In Kyonedoe Township of Kayin State, there was a grenade attack on the junta army stationed in the school of Taung Kyar-In Village. Reportedly, a captain died and 5 junta soldiers were injured.
  • Chin State People’s Police Force released the Law on the People’s Police Force, which will be led by an elected Chief of Police and a deputy Chief Police.
  • On Saturday, Summer Musical Night- NIC was organized at Queens Theatre in New York City in the United States to provide assistance where necessary in Myanmar.
  • In Kepong of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, U Saw Hmoo, the Chair of the NLD-OC, led an anti-junta movement on Sunday.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

  • In an interview with People’s Spring, the spokesperson of the Karen National Union (KNU) stated that the KNU forces, in cooperation with Karenni forces, had been fighting in Karenni State.
  • In Muse Township of Northern Shan State, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army claimed that it had destroyed the junta army camp, not the old citadel of Shan Royals near Selant Village.

The Military Council

  • On Saturday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing stated that monks, nuns and students would be able to pay homage to the Maravijaya Buddha Image free of charge in Dakhina Thiri Township of Naypyi Taw.
  • On Saturday, the military junta announced that Daw Pyone Pyone Aye had been appointed to be the Chief Justice of the Union Supreme Court.
  • The junta Central Bank of Myanmar stated that it would take action against those who post on social media ‘1 USD = 3900MMK or 4000MMK’, accusing them of doing activities for higher prices.
  • The junta Central Bank of Myanmar announced that they had enough foreign currency to pay for imported goods for three months and for the import of fuel oil for two months. However, business people do not believe that.
  • The junta Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations claimed that China’s investment in Myanmar accounts for 23.5% of the foreign investments in the country.
  • The junta Trade Department released draft procedures on importing and exporting via other border crossings than Myawaddy during the repair of some sections of the Myawaddy Road.

Summary on 21 August

  • With a high demand for the dollar, the military junta cannot control the increasing exchange rate of the USD. They have just threatened that they will take action against those raising the price of dollars.
  • The revolution against the military dictatorship has been in great momentum throughout the country. The same is true for the anti-junta movements abroad.
