The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In an NUG meeting on Tuesday, the Acting President called for no mistakes in the strategies and tactics of the revolution in 2023, which could be a turning point in terms of political and military affairs.
  • The Acting President of the NUG expressed thanks to the international community for its support in allowing the Myanmar Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun to remain at the United Nations.
  • On Monday, the NUG Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the joint statement of the EU-ASEAN Summit on Myanmar failed to condemn the military junta.
  • According to the NUG Ministry of Education Myanmar Nway-Oo University (MNOU), a public online education provider, was opened on 7 October for students who do not want to study at the junta’s institutions.
  • On Monday, there was a meeting between the Education Committee of the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), Australian academic Prof. Joseph Lo Bianco and Australian MP Janelle Saffin.

Revolutionary Activities

  • Even amidst local instability in Yinmabin Township in Sagaing Region, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • On Sunday and Tuesday, the junta armed forces shot dead three people from Hsegyi Village in Kantbalu Township and Hse Village in Myaung Township.
  • At about 7:00 am on Tuesday, local PDFs attacked Nyaungbinwun Police Station on the Monywa to Mandalay Road demanding money from the public.
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta army invaded Kyauk Hmaw Village on the bank of Chindwin River at about 3:00 pm on Tuesday. Reportedly, two PDF members lost their lives while rescuing local people trapped in the area.
  • In Kalay, local PDFs conducted a mine attack on the junta army invading from Taungtha Ward at about 12:30 pm Monday.
  • In Indaw Township, the junta army shot dead four local people watching Pain-In Village burn on Sunday and buried their dead bodies in the compound of the village monastery.
  • In Salingyi Township, there was an attack on members of the junta police force coming to a beer shop at about 9:00 am on Sunday. Reportedly, four of them, including an officer, died.
  • In Dibeyin East, Snake Eyes PDF donated blankets and clothes to the fire victims whose villages had been burnt by the junta armed forces.
  • In Sanchaung Township in Yangon Region, a bomb was found in a municipal dustbin near Gwa Market at about 7:30 pm on Monday. Reportedly, it was blown up by the junta army.
  • In Pauk Township in Magwe Region, the junta army set fire to Htaughtshabin Village on Sunday night. Reportedly, over 20 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • On Monday, a combined rally of Mandalay District PDF, Black Wolf PDF, Mandalay, Mobile Defence Force (MDF) and local people carried out a night strike against the military dictatorship.
  • In Launglon Township, a junta-appointed village administrator and a Pyu Saw Htee member were shot dead on the evening of 16 December.
  • In Thayetchaung Township, the junta army arrested and took away over 60 people from Chaung Hnakwa Village on Monday.
  • In Kawthaung Township, there was an anti-junta movement near Victoria Cliff on Monday night.
  • As a part of Nan Htike Aung Operation, Htay Aung, the administrator of Kyidaw Village who bullied local people and relied on his son-in-law, an army captainto protect him, was shot dead by Bago PDF at about 5:00 am on Tuesday.
  • Based in Kayin State under the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (5), the Bhama People’s Liberation Army (BPLA) has been recruiting new members for military training Batch (5).
  • In Ye Township in Mon State, there was an attack with an RPG on the junta army Ka-La-Ya (586) on Tuesday afternoon. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died and three others were seriously injured.
  • According to Justice for Myanmar, the International Financial Corporation of the World Bank Group is withdrawing its investment in Yoma Bank because it is doing business with associates of the junta army that is committing genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
  • On Monday afternoon, Myanmar people protested against the military dictatorship in front of the junta Myanmar’s Embassy in Bangkok of Thailand.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In Dwedoe Township under Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (5), the junta army dropped bombs from a fighter jet onto Watholaw Village at about 5:20 pm on Sunday. Reportedly, people’s houses were burnt and damaged.
  • In Chin State, soldiers from the junta army have been defecting to local defence forces. According to CDFs, up to 12 soldiers had defected by 19 December.
  • In Bawlake Township in Karenni State, six members of the Karenni Multi-ethnic Liberation Front died near Ywathit Village on Saturday. The Karenni National Defence Force (KNDF) has been investigating the case.

The Military Council

  • On Monday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing awarded the championship cup and prize money to the Mandalay Region Team which won first prize in the junta state and regional women’s under 18 football match held for the 75th Independence Day.
  • The junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce issued an order that only the cars produced in 2022 can be imported in 2023.
  • According to the military junta, there were 53 new investments in the Yangon Region during the 11 months of the current year.
  • The junta Deputy Minister of Education said that it is necessary to change the curriculum of informal primary education so that it complies with the new curriculum starting in the 2023-24 academic year.
  • The Young Myanmar Buddhist Association (YMBA), the Myanmar Writers’ Association, the Myanmar Press Council and the Myanmar Jokers’ Association expressed their disapproval of the bomb attack on the Cherry (2) ferry in Yangon.
