The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 101 members of the junta armed forces had died and 10 others had been injured on Wednesday.
  • U Naing Htoo Aung, Secretary of Ministry of Defence-NUG, said that only when all revolution forces were under the same Chain of Command, the answer would be found for activities of the fight.
  • At 5:00 pm Thursday, Ministry of Human Rights-NUG organized a press conference on human rights violations of the junta army in Chin State, including the murder of civilians in Matupi Township.
  • Dr. Sasa, Minister of International Cooperation, held a talk related to international views on Myanmar’s Revolution and more than 500 representatives from all over the country joined it.

Revolution Activities

  • In a village of Shwebo Township in Sagaing Region, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • At about 6:20 am Thursday, some cars carrying Tiger and Adman Beer, products of the military junta, were found somewhere on Kantbalu-Kawlin road and those products were destroyed by local PDFs.
  • As a 347-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • At about 1:00 pm Thursday, the sound of gunfire came out in Tantsi and Shwe Daungmin gas station was on fire as well.
  • As a 316-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In the west of Ye-U, over 40 junta soldiers on foot was attacked with mines by a local PDF near the railway of Chantha village.
  • Special Attacking Force - Upper Burma – SAF, a revolution force against the military junta, announced that they had successfully made a nine-bullet shotgun for the first time.
  • In Tamu, the junta army sealed off the houses of NLD MPs and protest leaders.
  • In Phakant of Kachin State, there was a protest against the military dictatorship on Thursday. They also showed their support for the KIA, PDF and the NUG.
  • In Myitgyina, the CDM staff of Electricity and Engineering Department under Myanmar Railway have been in difficulty for accommodation as they were forced to leave the staff housing within seven days.
  • Chair of KBC said that they would keep their investigation until they find those who had raped and killed two volunteer teachers in Kaungkha village of Shan North seven years ago.
  • According to letters of political prisoners to their families, prisons have been too crowded as the military junta have been unjustly arresting the public. In addition, too much soda has been used in food such as rice and beans to increase the amount.
  • In Pyin Oo Lwin Township, the Security Force of Mandalay People’s Defence Army arrested two drug dealers and destroyed 2500 WY tablets of illegal drug.
  • In Chanmya Thazi new town of Mandalay Region, a junta-appointed ten-household leader was shot in his stomach on Thursday morning. Reportedly, he was sent to hospital.
  • According to prison sources, Dr. Zaw Myint Mg said that he felt ashamed for the judiciary system of the country as he had been charged with another criminal section on the verdict day despite the initial charge with an exclusive section under the election law.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, a combined rally of basic education students’ union and local people protested against the military dictatorship on Thursday morning, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • In three villages of Dawei Township, the junta armed forces have been invading the area in search of PDF members. Consequently, almost the whole villages have had to run away.
  • On Wednesday, the junta army arrested three journalists in Dawei. According to the townspeople, junta soldiers also arrested two more civilians.
  • In Pancit village of Pindaya Township, a CDM policeman has been staying there. Because the village administrator and villagers failed to inform them about it, the junta army arrested them.
  • In Myein and Pauk townships of Magwe Region, a large number of the junta armed forces set fire to oil wells of the local people on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • In North Okkalapa Township of Yangon Region, there was a bomb explosion in front of electricity department at 11:15 am Thursday.
  • According to a social media post under the name ‘Min Yaung’, Michael Kyaw Myint has been organizing an event in support of the junta army on 1st February, anniversary of the military coup.
  • In Kyankhine Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, two MyTel telecom towers were blown up in Kywell and Yenantaung villages.
  • In Kyankhine Township, the junta army arrested U Soe Nay Naing, forestry officer of Konegyibi Area, on Tuesday, accusing him of having contact with PDFs.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to the spokesperson of Kayin National Union (KNU), it is the year to turn the defensive war into invasive one according to current conditions.
  • In Mansi Township of Kachin State, there was a fighting between the junta army and KIA near Nantmazut village on Tuesday.

The Military Council

  • In Ywathitgyi village of Sagaing Township, the junta army arrested U Kyaw Soe Naing, Ngazun Township MP who had been staying in Mataungta Ward, and the host U Htay Lwin.
  • According to the junta media, the junta minister and deputy minister of sports and youth watched the 2022 football tournament of women aged under 25 from states and regions, which is being held at Nay Pyi Taw Wunna Theidi stadium from 7th to 21st January.
  • The military junta announced that confidential reporting could be made with regard to money collecting of trade departments through phone, fax and email.
  • In Nay Pyi Taw, National Registration Cards (NRC) have been issued to those without them under Pankhin project. Reportedly, 37190 cards were issued from May 2021 to 17th January 2022.
  • On Wednesday, Dr. Arkar Moe Thu, Professor of Oriental Study Department at Yangon University, was sentenced to three years in prison at the junta court with the charge of section (505-A).
  • Reportedly, Rakhine State Chief Minister U Nyi Pu and other state ministers were sentenced to prison respectively.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the vaccination of Sputnik Light, COVID-19 vaccines donated by Russia, got started in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • Dr. Mg Mg Naing, the junta Chair of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, said that air pollution caused by burning would be reduced in the city.
  • According to local Muslim community, the military junta sent a delegation led by Htay Aung to OIC countries to reduce the pressure of international lawsuits against the junta leaders for their genocide of Rohingya people.

Summary on 20 January

  • In Sagaing Region, local PDFs managed to produce weapons including mortars. As the revolution has been in great momentum there, the military junta might use various methods to conduct crackdowns on revolution forces.
  • As PDFs started to carry out guerrilla attacks in Dawei, the junta armed forces were in thorough search for them. Consequently, the residents of whole villages had to run away. It is necessary to be well-prepared there as the military junta might conduct mass murder and fire like they did in Sagaing Region.
  • As for Yangon and Mandalay, they still had great momentum in guerrilla revolution. In recent days, anti-junta youth in Mandalay carried out attacks all over the city.
