The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The JCC- CDM wrote up a policy paper on the Civil Disobedience Movement-CDM of government employees. Reportedly, the National Unity Consultative Council-NUCC released it.
  • The six organizations, which would re-establish the Karenni State Consultative Council, released a statement that they would fight their best in military, political and diplomatic battles until the end of all forms of dictatorship including the military one.
  • Union Prime Minister claimed that judging from the meeting minutes of the military junta, the NUG got to know about the dos and don’ts for them.
  • The People’s Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG announced the list of casualties in the junta’s bomb attack via fighter jet on Moetar Lay Village in Kathar Township of Kachin State.

Revolution Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Khin-U Township, a combined rally of local public’s administration, local defence forces and local people marched on Friday to express their disapproval of the junta’s superficial election.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe led a march against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Yinmabin North, a combined rally of villages marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Kani Township, the medical team of Burma Liberation Force provided IDPs with healthcare services.
  • On Friday, Latbadaung Taung General Strike marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship, raising a banner against the junta’s fake election.
  • In Salingyi Township, the team of Anyar Pyit Tie Taung provided food to IDPs on Friday.
  • In Ye-U Township, 7 junta soldiers died in battles with PDFs over 2 days.
  • In Pale, local farmers protested against the military dictatorship on Friday, raising a banner against the junta’s election.
  • In Kachin State, young people from Hpakant Lonekhine Group expressed their objection to the military dictatorship on Friday, placing anti-junta banners.
  • A focal person of Dark Shadow-UG stated that they had conducted a grenade attack on the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre-NRPC in Yangon.
  • In North Dagon Myothit Township of Yangon Region, Shwe Win, a former director, was shot dead.
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, the junta army fired mortars to Kaingdawma Village. Consequently, a woman lost her life.
  • On Friday, a rally of anti-junta monks expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.
  • In Mandalay Region, a rally of Pyigyi Dagun conducted a protest against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, junta soldiers on motorbikes were attacked by the YGF. Reportedly, 5 of them died and 3 weapons were confiscated.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, youth from the advocacy committee of Dawei Democratic Movement led a public talk against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they had been concerned about the dropping of bombs in the territory of India during the junta’s air strike on the headquarters of the Chin National Force.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Kyaukgyi Township under Karen National Union-KNU, the junta armed forces shot mortars at local villages. According to the KNU, over 2,500 local people had to run away.
  • In Kawthoolei Administrative Area under the KNU Brigade (3), there were 55 local battles from 1 to 15 January. Reportedly, 47 junta soldiers, including an officer, died.
  • In Dimawso Township of Karenni State, no less than 6 junta soldiers died and many others were injured in battles against the KNDF near 6 Mile Sanpya Village.
  • In Paletwa Township of Chin State, the Interim Kumi Ethnic Coordination Committee announced that there would be action as necessary against those who would participate in the election to be conducted by the military junta.

The Military Council

  • In Mawlamyein of Mon State, the military junta ordered the shops near the local airport and those on U Sit Maung Street to be removed completely by the end of January.
  • The military junta announced that they would conduct the meeting of National Defence and Security Council on 1 February.
  • The junta propaganda media stated that the Chief Military Officer of Thai Royal Army and the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing met in Thandwe.
  • On Thursday, the junta Union Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations received a delegation led by the Director of Asia-Pacific Region under the United Nations Development Program Office based in Bangkok, Thailand.
  • The military junta stated that PDFs had shot mortars into Bandula Ward of Butalin Township in Sagaing Region, leaving two children injured.

Summary on 20 January

  • Despite nationwide protests against the military dictatorship on a daily basis, the military junta is likely to conduct their election by force as a way to attempt to legitimize their power.
  • On 1 February; two years after the coup, the military junta will conduct the meeting of National Defence and Security Council and give various reasons bare-facedly to keep hold of power.
  • In recent days, the junta army has had a great loss in battles on the ground. They have been openly committing war crimes by their deliberate air strikes on civilians and villages.
