Spring Revolution Daily News for 21 October 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Acting President of the NUG called for protecting foreigners including Myanmar people and civilians who are getting into trouble in the battles between Israel and Gaza. 
  • According to Spring Development Bank, they managed to collect over 110 lakh MMK from their users for Mung Lai Hkyet IDP Camp, which had faced the terrible attack of the junta army near Laiza in Kachin State. 
  • At 3:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting (34/2023) between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administration. 
  • The Union Prime Minister of the NUG claimed that to widen the administrative area was one of the most important tasks in the revolution. 
  • In the 78th United Nations General Assembly, Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun stated that the junta’s activities against Myanmar people were not just human rights violations, and they were serious international crimes especially crimes against humanity and war crimes. 
  • The NUG, the National Unity Consultative Council, the Ethnic Revolution Forces and the Spring Revolution Groups called on the members of the European Union, claiming that it was not time for them to negotiate with Myanmar’s junta army. They also requested the EU not to provide legitimacy to the military junta and not to recognize the fake planned election. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Mese Township of Karenni State, the displaced women and children have been mentally and emotionally hurt. 
  • In Chaung-U Township of Sagaing Region, local PDFs attacked the two junta policemen on their way out of Kanzi Village. Reportedly, both of them died and their guns were confiscated. 
  • In Pale, PDFs attacked the junta army stationing at the junta’s General Administration Department in town. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, the junta troops have been invading the area for ten days. Consequently, the public from over 11 villages have had to run away, and they have been in need of food and medicines. 
  • In Kani Township, there was a public talk on federalism in a local village on Friday. 
  • On Friday, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • Between Muse Township and Monekoe Township in Northern Shan State, Kachin Independence Army (KIA) managed to take control of the whole camp of the junta army stationed in Mount Winela. 
  • According to Karenni Nationalities Defence Force Regiment (11) on 17 October, they lost 14 members including the Commander over the period of two years after their establishment. 

The Military Council 

  • According to the statistics from the junta Ministry of Planning and Finance, the budget deficit has been on the rise along with the military expense at a record high. Reportedly, the deficit has been nearly 8 billion MMK in the current fiscal year. 
  • According to pro-military people, the KIA and the PDFs could not enter the compound of the junta army in Shweku Township of Kachin State. 
  • ASEAN released a statement with concerns and condemnation on the large number of casualties among internally displaced people due to the recent Kachin State bombing. Regarding it, the military junta expressed their objection. 
  • In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the friendship between Russia and Myanmar, a Russian Orthodox Church will be built on the land of 1.25 acres in Ward (34) of North Dagon Myothit Township of Yangon. 
  • According to the junta Ministry of Economics and Commerce, the value of border trade between Thailand and Myanmar has increased over the period of six months in the current fiscal year. 
  • Reportedly, cancer patients from Myanmar will receive the treatments with the medicines manufactured in Russia. 
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that a town from Russia and a town from Myanmar would be regarded as sister towns. 
  • Than Than Swe, the junta Chair of Central Bank, stated that they would implement Myanmar Pay, a mobile payment system. 

Summary on 21 October 

  • Since the military coup, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing has relied on Russia. He has become dependent on them more and more. 
  • In the battles against the KIA, the junta army has had a great loss and their camps have been confiscated one after another. However, the junta lobbyists have been trying to cover it up with propaganda and lies.
