Spring Revolution Daily News for 22 April 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In the very first conference on higher education in the Spring Revolution period on Friday, Acting President of the NUG stated that it is necessary to build the foundation of federal democracy education systematically for sustainability. 
  • At 3:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting (15/2023) between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administration. 
  • On Thursday, the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration conducted a meeting. There, the Union Prime Minister and Chair of the Committee stated that time is important in the revolution period and thus, it is necessary to do the best. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Sagaing Region, a rally of Yinmabin North marched against the military dictatorship on Friday. 
  • In Shwebo Township, a large number of the junta armed forces raided Kyar Village at about 9:30 am Friday. Consequently, all the local residents had to run away. 
  • At about 2:30 pm Thursday, the junta army dropped two bombs and opened gunfire via a fighter jet on Pazigyi Village in Kantbalu Township. Reportedly, over 100 houses were damaged. Over 170 people were massacred here on 11 April.
  • In Kawlin, a soldier from the junta army stationing in the high school ran away with his wife on 17 April and joined the CDM. 
  • On Wednesday and Thursday, the junta army demolished the houses of two protesters and two strike committee members in Kalay. 
  • Kyauk Lonegyi PDF built houses for the fire victims. 
  • In Taze Township, the junta army set fire to 13 houses in Tasegyel Village on Thursday morning. 
  • In Khin-U Township, some IDPs lost consciousness because of extreme heat and some of them died of dehydration as they did not have easy access to water. 
  • In Thanlyin Township of Yangon Region, Ko Tun Oo Kyaw, a betel seller and relative of a revolutionist, was shot dead by Pyusawti members at about 7:00 pm Thursday. 
  • According to police sources, the Voice Journal Chief Editor U Kyaw Min Swe, Actress May Bagyi and Vocalist Shwe Yi Theindan were charged with Section 505 (a). 
  • Among the seven students of Dagon University who had been sentenced to the death penalty in Insein Prison, four of them were moved to other prisons. 
  • In Madayar of Mandalay Region, there were bomb attacks via drone on the junta army stationed in the police station and the administration office at about 12:00 pm Thursday. 
  • In Sintku Township, the junta army raided Katthin Village on Thursday evening. Reportedly, they shot dead a woman, arrested 3 people and burnt over 200 houses. 
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, the junta army conducted aerial attacks via military helicopters on the rural health clinic in Magyikan Village on 18 and 19 April. According to local PDF on Friday, they lost one of their camps. 
  • In Yesagyo, there were attacks on the two places of the junta armed forces on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died whereas the PDF lost a member. 
  • In Tilin Township, the junta army dropped bombs via a fighter jet on the People’s Administration Office at 12:30 pm Thursday. Afterwards, a contingent of over 100 junta soldiers invaded the area. 
  • In Paungty Township of Bago Region, there was a mine attack on the junta army near Thayet Chin Chaung Village at about 3:00 pm Thursday. Reportedly, no less than 3 junta soldiers were injured. 
  • In Kyankhin Township of Ayeyarwady Region, there was a protest against the military dictatorship on Thursday afternoon. 
  • In Karenni State, the IDPs have been in need of water in summer. They have also suffered from heat-related illnesses. 
  • In Dimawso Township, the Director of the Rural Land conducted a psycho-healing training for the IDPs on Friday. 
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, a contingent of nearly 100 junta soldiers raided Hmawbone Village at about 5:30 am Thursday. They then arrested over 60 villagers. 
  • In Naungcho Township of Shan North, the junta army ordered the villagers of Hoko Village to move away as they would demolish Sayarsan Cave where the PDFs have been allegedly staying. 
  • On Thursday, Myanmar Muslim Political Prisoners released a statement calling on all Myanmar Muslims not to conduct any other fun fairs except for religious ceremonies in the festival of Eid. 
  • In memory of news journalist U Win Tin who lost his life 9 years ago, Anti-junta forces Coordination Committee-Mandalay conducted a blue-shirt campaign in Mandalay on Friday. 
  • According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, 3422 people have lost their lives due to the junta armed forces until 20 April. 
  • The G7 Foreign Ministers released a joint statement condemning the military junta in Myanmar for their oppression on the public after the military coup. 
  • Burma Campaign UK called on 5 UK insurance companies to stop their activities for the ships importing aviation oil to Myanmar. 
  • The German Embassy in Myanmar stated that they would continue their help for Myanmar people. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • Somewhere on the Loikaw-Mobye Road, a combined force of the KNDF attacked a junta convoy at about 2:00 am Friday. Reportedly, there were a large number of casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • In local battles for 6 days between Dimawso Township and Mobye Township, over 50 junta soldiers died, another one was caught alive and 20 weapons were confiscated. 
  • In Matupi Township of Chin State, a fully-armed junta soldier defected to CDF Mara on 16 April and thus, he was awarded 50 lakh MMK. 
  • In the area under Karen National Union Brigade (6), the junta army conducted an airstrike on Thursday. They also fired heavy artillery. In response, the revolution forces carried out a counter-attack. Reportedly, the junta army had a great loss and their weapons were confiscated. 

The Military Council 

  • On Friday, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand would come to Nay Pyi Taw and meet with the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing. 
  • The second junta leader Soe Win claimed that there would be a grand ceremony at the national level at Nay Pyi Taw Oatparda Thandy Stupa on Kasone Fullmoon Day. 
  • The junta Minister of Information said that the Fashion Award would be chosen among the artists who would attend the junta Academy Ceremony. 
  • On Thursday, the junta Union Election Commission announced that they had permitted the registration of the junta’s proxy Union Solidarity and Development Party as a political party. 
  • According to an officer from the junta Ministry of Electricity, power would be provided in big cities including Yangon only for limited amount of time in summer and there might be more power outages. 
  • According to the junta Ministry of Education, the exam results would be announced on 27 April for basic education of 2022-23 academic year. 
  • On 19 April, Michael Kyaw Myint sued some leaders of the USDP. 
  • Yangon Electricity Department, which can supply power in the city only for two hours a day, announced that they would like to purchase power from solar energy users. 

Summary on 21 April 

  • The military junta cannot supply electricity on a regular basis. In addition to more power outages, they even had to announce that they would buy power from solar energy users. They are that weak in their administration. 
  • The military junta has arrested, charged and imprisoned anti-junta professionals from various fields. They have been oppressing freedom of expression by taking action against people who post something inappropriate on social media.
