The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In cooperation with the Education Committee under the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), the Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management- NUG provided an 8-day training on preventive measures against air attacks and heavy artillery to the members of township education boards from 11 to 19 August.
  • On 18 August, the Myanmar community in Australia conducted a fund-raising event for displaced people who had to leave their homes due to the junta armed forces. Reportedly, present on the occasion was the Deputy Minister of Human Rights- NUG.
  • On 18 August, the NUG Interim Judiciary Committee conducted a meeting. Reportedly, the Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that it was necessary to cooperate between the Ministry of Judiciary Affairs and other ministries for the rule of law and judiciary affairs during the revolution.
  • At 10:00 am Sunday, there was a meeting between the Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration- NUG and Township People’s Administrations from Taninthayi Region, Ayeyarwady Region and Bago Region.
  • The Local People’s Administration announced that they would not allow the use of the junta’s 20,000-MMK bank notes in Pale Township in Sagaing Region.
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG confirmed that Boatpyin Township People’s Police Force had been established in Taninthayi Region.
  • According to the focal person of the Yangon Regional Military Operation Team, they have been preparing to add two more regiments for Yangon Region, in addition to PDF (5101).

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Kalay Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army set fire to Thazi Village on Monday for the sixth day. Reportedly, the ashes spread even to the town.
  • In Salingyi Township, a rally of Ahmanthit marched in honor of PDF Comrade Min Min Htet who lost their life two months ago.
  • In Khin-U Township, there was an attack on a junta troop near Pintin Village at 9:00 am Saturday. Reportedly, a junta soldier died.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe led an anti-junta march on Monday.
  • In Monywa, there was an attack on the junta soldiers inspecting and demanding money on Union Road at about 7:00 am Sunday. Reportedly, four of them died and a gun was confiscated.
  • In Dibeyin, there were bomb attacks via drone on the junta army regiments Ka-Ma-Ya (701) and (708) on Sunday afternoon. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died.
  • In Ye-U Township, the junta army arrested over 10 people as human shields on Monday morning. Reportedly, they have been invading the area.
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, the junta soldiers and Pyusawti members raided Shwe Lin Swe Village at about 3:00 am Sunday. They then took away valuable things. Afterwards, they set fire to Lettoattaw Village and arrested more than 30 people.
  • In Phyuu Township of Bago Region, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army stationed in Phayar Lahar Village on Sunday morning. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died.
  • In Shwekyin Township, the revolutionary forces attacked the junta armed forces. Afterwards, the junta army destroyed roads on Monday morning.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army has been strengthening its forces. Reportedly, junta soldiers in plain clothes have been gathering information.
  • In Karenni State, the focal person and the director of the Rural Land, on behalf of donors, provided rice, oil and nutrient powder to 3 IDP camps in Demoso Township on Monday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • On Monday, the Restoration Council of Shan State claimed that it is best to build trust, uphold truth and hold discussions when trying to resolve political and military issues which have been in existence for years.
  • In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, ABSDF Column (3) attacked the police station in Min Village at about 5:00 am on 15 August. Reportedly, 5 junta policemen died.
  • In Thanglang of Chin State, a combined force of CNA and CDF attacked the junta army headquarters Ka-Ma-Ya (269) on 14 August. Reportedly, they managed to take control of a junta security camp.
  • In Mone Township of Bago Region, the junta army conducted attacks via drone and mortars. Consequently, 2 people got injured and the people from 11 villages had to run away, according to the Karen National Union.
  • The General Secretary of the PSLF/TLNA stated that it is necessary to be cautious of the revolution every day and not divide the mainland and the mountains as there has been more military tension after the military coup.
  • In Lashio Township and Kutkhine Township of Northern Shan State, there were 3 battles between the junta army and Ta’ang National Liberation Army on Saturday.
  • In Karenni State, the battle resumed on Demoso-Fruso Road on Monday morning.

The Military Council

  • The junta Central Bank announced that there would be legal action against those holding foreign currency without a permit or license according to the foreign currency management law.
  • The junta Central Bank announced that local residents who legally earn foreign currency worth no more than 10,000USD are allowed to hold it only for six months after receiving it.
  • On 19 August, the military junta conducted an emergency meeting in Naypyi Taw due to a lack of foreign currency and lack of control on dollar prices. Reportedly, they threatened the business community with imprisonment.
  • According to the junta trade flow committee, a task force had been set up to combat high prices of gold and dollar in the country and it would be led by the special investigation department.
  • The Chair of the junta Central Bank claimed that they would respond to the case in which the Bangladesh Government had frozen the money worth 1.1 million USD of the junta of the Myanma Foreign Trade Bank and Myanma Investment and Commercial Bank.
  • The junta Minister of Industry said that they had been preparing to provide assistance for the production of local high-quality edible oil.
  • The junta Ministry of Electricity has called open tender for those who would like to invest in No. (3) Shweli Hydro-Power Project on Shweli River near Moemait in Northern Shan State.
  • According to the junta railway department, they have finished repairing the railroad section which was blown up in Bago Region and thus, they resumed their suspended services on Sunday.

Summary on 22 August

  • With fewer resources, the military junta has been short of foreign currency. Subsequently, it placed tight restrictions on the foreign currency in hand locally. They also threatened that there would be legal action.
  • The RCSS led by Yawd Serk, which had claimed that they would stand with the public, has held talks with the military junta. They also announced their upholding of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement. In other words, they say one thing and do another.
