The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG expressed its strongest condemnation of the bomb explosion on the Yangon to Dala ferry. They also stated that they had cancelled many plans to attack the military junta as they could cause casualties among civilians.
  • On Tuesday, the NUG Ministry of Defence stated that among the junta members, informers to the NUG would be financially rewarded depending on their information.
  • According to Kanpetlet Township Public Administration in Chin State on Monday, each CDM member of the staff was provided with 50,000 MMK.
  • The spokesperson of the NUG stated that the crisis in Myanmar will never be resolved if the discussions are only with the military junta and exclude the NUG and ethnic revolutionary forces.
  • In Tanintharyi Township in Tanintharyi Region, there was a funfair at a public school under the NUG Ministry of Education on 17 December. According to CDM teachers, they have had difficulties in supplying food and teaching personnel for the school.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Oattara Thiri Township in Nay Pyi Taw, there was a bomb attack on the junta army gate in Shwe Nanttha Ward at about 10:30 pm on Monday.
  • In Yinmabin North in Sagaing Region, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • In Kani Township, there were battles between the junta armed forces and local PDFs on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, the junta soldiers used military helicopters.
  • On Wednesday morning, the junta armed forces invaded Salingyi and Yinmabin. Consequently, local people had to run away. Reportedly, a piece of news came out that the second junta leader Soe Win had been there.
  • In Indaw Township, a troop of over 100 junta soldiers burnt 41 houses and 30 barns in Sattawgone Village on Tuesday.
  • At about 2:40 pm on Tuesday, there was an attack on three junta policemen shopping in Monywa. Reportedly, one of them died and the two others were injured and ran away.
  • In Wetlet Township, PDFs shot mortars at two junta ships delivering rations for Sheinmagar Police Station at about 3:30 pm on Tuesday.
  • In Taze Township, the junta armed forces set fire to 590 houses in 13 local villages from 4 to 19 December.
  • In Kantbalu District, the junta army raided and burnt Zeebintha Village. They also shot dead a Grade (6) student.
  • Based in Kalay Township, the Hyenas Survey Corps has been badly in need of weapons and military items. Therefore, they called for help from the public.
  • Kalay District PDF Technology and Drone Unit has been recruiting young people interested in technology.
  • In Thabaitgyin Township in Mandalay Region, there was a remote mine attack on a car carrying junta soldiers in plain clothes at about 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
  • In Kyaukse District, local PDFs warned all local administrators under the military junta to resign.
  • In Amarapura Township, a man and a youth, both USDP supporters, were shot dead on Tuesday morning.
  • On Wednesday, the one-year anniversary of the Central Revolutionary Coalition was celebrated.
  • In Myaing Township in Magwe Region, PDFs fired mortars at the junta army in Kanni Village at about 6:00 pm on Wednesday.
  • In Pakkoku Township, PDFs shot at the junta army taking security measures in front of Kamma Police Station at 8:40 am on Wednesday. Reportedly, two junta members were injured.
  • In Ayeyarwady Region, Ko Win Tun Naing, a political activist in detention in Pathein Prison, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday.
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Tanintharyi Region, the junta army destroyed over 10 houses in Yebu Village and took away people’s belongings on Sunday.
  • In Thayarwaddy Township in Bago Region, there was a mine attack on junta armed forces on their way back from patrol at 9:30 pm on Monday.
  • In Ye Township in Mon State, a local guerrilla force threw grenades at the gate of the junta army (19) at about 6:30 am Wednesday.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In the area under the KNU/KNLA Brigade (5) in Kayin State, 21 junta soldiers died and 15 others, including an officer, got injured in local battles from 1 to 15 December.
  • In Kawkareik Township, there was fighting between the junta army and a combined force of the KNLA on Asia Road at about 7:00 pm on Tuesday. Reportedly, junta soldiers also conducted an air strike.
  • On Wednesday, the Karenni Democratic Front announced that a soldier from the junta army based in Loikaw Ta-Sa-Ya had joined the public.
  • In Soetashar Township in Karenni State, the Karenni Army (KA) announced that the public were not to go to the southern part of the area on the eastern bank of Salween River.

The Military Council

  • On Tuesday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that Mawlamyine airport will be relocated as it will be upgraded.
  • In the opening ceremony of a new court in Mon State, the junta leader said that it was necessary to punish the guilty and avoid punishing those who are not guilty.
  • In the ASEAN+3 Financial and Central Bank Chiefs’ Meeting on Tuesday, the junta Deputy Minister of Trade and Commerce stated that it had expected economic growth of 3.7% in 2022-23 fiscal year.
  • Starting from Karen New Year Day on Thursday, there would be daily RBE train services to and from Pyin Oo Lwin to Goat Htike.
  • The junta Minister of Information told private television stations and FM companies to pay electricity bills as soon as possible.
  • The military junta announced on Tuesday that it had arrested 12 people for discarding the dead bodies of 13 Bengali people in Hlegu Township in Yangon Region and transporting over 250 others illegally to Malaysia.
  • At the headquarters of Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), there was a meeting between Chair of the USDP and the Vice-Chair of Russia-Myanmar Friendship Association on Tuesday. Reportedly, they discussed promoting good relations between the two parties.
  • In Yangon Region, 364 pro-USDP people were appointed as local administrators. Reportedly, the appointments were carried out in accordance with instruction from the USDP Chair Khin Yi.
  • The USDP members and new administrators in Mingaladon Township in Yangon Region claimed that everyone in the area must have national registration cards and household lists. They also threatened that those who do not have the identity documents will be imprisoned for six months.

Summary on 22 December

  • In the revolution against the military junta, it is important to get information in advance. To get more information the NUG has announced that it will reward people who are linked to the junta and give it information about the junta and its personnel.
  • In Yangon Region, the military junta appointed pro-USDP people as local administrators. It might be a step in preparation for the junta’s election.
