Spring Revolution Daily News for 22 October 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated that Myanmar people had been expecting the UN Security Council to take serious action against the military junta, and that the UN should not fail with such an expectation. 
  • In Phyuu Township of Bago Region, there were bomb attacks via drone on the two junta stations. 
  • According to Dawna Column under the Ministry of Defence-NUG, there were battles against the junta armed forces at two locations in Yay Township of Mon State on Friday. Reportedly, both sides lost members. 
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magwe Region, local PDF arrested a junta policeman on his way to shop in Kamma, along with a G3 gun. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Butalin of Sagaing Region, there were bomb attacks via drone on the junta’s stations in town, including the General Administration Department. 
  • In Salingyi Township, a rally of New Strength, in cooperation with local people, marched on Saturday morning in memory of Comrade Min Min Htet (alias) Fatty who lost his life four months ago. 
  • At the entrance to Htigyaint, there was heavy fighting on Thursday night. Reportedly, 8 junta soldiers died and 2 junta policemen were caught alive by local PDF. 
  • In Dibeyin Township, the junta army set fire to Wapar Village. Reportedly, local residents of 9 villages had to run away. 
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched in support of Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun and against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, Black Vote Fighter attacked using mortars against the junta army stationed in Bantbway Village. 
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, 70 houses from 2 local villages were burnt down. Reportedly, two local people, who had tried to put out the fire, were killed. 
  • A junta convoy, which had been stuck for a month due to guerrilla attacks of Pauk Township PDF, is now heading towards Yaw Area and Chin State. 
  • In Pauk Township, the junta troops have been invading the area. Consequently, thousands of local people have had to run away. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • In Kanpetlet Township of Chin State, local CDF in five troops conducted simultaneous attacks on the four junta stations. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died. 
  • According to Karen National Union (Central), they provided food, healthcare and training to the displaced people in the western bank of Sittaung River. 
  • In Moemauk Township of Kachin State, Kachin Independence Army took control of the junta’s camp near Aunggya Village on Friday. 
  • On Friday, the KIA gained control of the two junta camps on the Myitgyina-Bamaw Road in Kachin State. 
  • In Mon State, the KNDO conducted a bomb attack via drone on the Office of Southeast Military Region and their fuel oil storage based in Mawlamyein. 

The Military Council 

  • In Phyapone Prison of Ayeyarwady Region, the military junta gave sentences of capital punishment to 7 political prisoners including a CDM staff on Friday. 
  • The military junta admitted on Friday that their forces had to retreat from the camps in Kachin State and Northern Shan State due to the attacks of the KIA. 
  • In Mandalay, the military junta has been arranging to hold Thadingyut funfairs in the compound of the Royal Palace to show as if the country was at peace. 
  • The junta Minister of Hotel and Tourism had exclusive meetings with the Chair of Foreign Relations Committee under Saint Petersburg Government of Russia and Executive Officer of Best International Travel & Agency based in Thailand. 
  • On Saturday morning, the first day of 2023 mid-year gems emporium was held at Maniyadanar Jade Hall. Reportedly, local and international gems traders were present. 
  • The delegation led by Major General Mya Tun Oo arrived back after attending The Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing. 

Summary on 22 October 

  • The EAOs claim that the military junta has lost the ability to fight without the aid of the air force. The junta army has had to let go of their camps one after another. They had a great loss in the battle against Mandalay PDF, which is just over two years old. They would face a greater loss if the PDFs were equipped with more weapons. 
  • The festive season is drawing near. At such time, the military junta has been planning to hold funfairs to give the impression the country is peaceful. They may blame revolutionary forces if any incident occurs.
