Spring Revolution Daily News for 23 April 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • On the Muslim Eid holiday on Saturday, Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) sent a statement that the successive military dictators had used religion as a political weapon to create conflicts among different religions and we learned a lesson from it. 
  • At 9:00 am Thursday, there was a meeting (16/2023) between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and the People’s Administration from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region. 
  • In the battlefield at Maing Lone in Shan State, Maing Phong Sayadaw provided the members of Mandalay PDF with religious rituals, along with words of loving kindness. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army raided Insa Village on Friday and set fire to people’s houses. They faced an attack with mortars. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and 3 others were injured. 
  • At about 9:00 am Thursday, a ward administrator named U Kyaw Soe was shot at a tea shop near the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (13) in Sagaing. 
  • In Salingyi Township, a rally of villagers protested against the military dictatorship on Friday evening, raising banners - ‘Release the political prisoners at once’. 
  • In Sagaing Township, the junta armed forces invaded Insa Village and Taunggya Village at about 8:50 am Friday. They then set fire to people’s houses in the villages. Consequently, thousands of villagers had to run away. 
  • In Pazigyi Village of Kantbalu Township, there was a battle between the junta army and the PDF on Thursday afternoon. Reportedly, 40 junta soldiers died due to the wrong aerial bombing targeting that led to troops being hit.  
  • In Minkin Township, local PDF gained control of the junta army camp in Ma-U Village on 10 April. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, a displaced child aged 15 lost his life on 15 April as he was bitten by a poisonous snake while fetching firewood to cook rice. 
  • In Shwebo Township, the S&C provided the IDPs with the bags containing food and 22 items. 
  • On Saturday, a rally of Yinmabin North conducted a dawn strike against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Salingyi Township, there was an anti-junta movement. 
  • On Thursday, there was an attack with mortars on the junta army gate on Monywa-Mandalay Road. 
  • In Kanty Township and Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region and Kyaukbadaung Township of Mandalay Region, junta administration personnel were shot and two of them died. 
  • In Myingyan Township, there was a mine attack on the junta army at the top of Kyaukkan Village on Friday. Reportedly, 12 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Yesagyo of Magwe Region, a combined force of local PDFs attacked the junta armed forces on Thursday. 
  • In North Dagon Myothit Township of Yangon Region, an unexploded bomb was found in a car in Ward (50) at about 1:00 pm Saturday. 
  • In Gyobinkauk Township of Bago Region, U Tin Kyaing, a Pyusawti member from Taung Hnalone Pauk Village who had claimed to drive away the PDFs from Bago Mountain Range, was shot dead at about 6:30 pm Friday. 
  • In Kyankhine Township of Ayeyarwady Region, there was a protest against the military dictatorship. 
  • The military junta arrested young vocalist Mayla Thancin and charged her with Section 505 (a). 
  • In Naungcho of Shan North, there were attacks with projectiles on the junta armed forces at about 11:00 am Saturday. 
  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, the junta army dropped bombs via fighter jets on the area of Kyauktaung on Saturday morning. 
  • On Friday night, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing on Ponnyashin Monastery in Pwintlin Ayemyein Village of Myawaddy Township. Reportedly, over 500 villagers had to run away. 
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, local PDF has been providing new members with a short course of Batch (9). 
  • In Maing Lone of Shan State, Maing Phong Sayadaw met with Mandalay PDF on the way and gave them safety rituals. 
  • In Falam Township of Chin State, there was a mine attack on the junta army in Rikhawda on Saturday morning. Afterwards, there were constant gunshots. 
  • In memory of news journalist Hanthawaddy U Win Tin who died 9 years ago, the workers from the FGWM participated in the Blue-Shirt Campaign on Friday. 
  • According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, 3427 people have lost lives due to the junta armed forces until 21 April. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Beelin Township and Kyaikto Township of Mon State, local people have had to run away as the junta armed forces have been firing mortars into villages. 
  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, the junta army invaded the area of Kyaukmine on Friday, conducting airstrikes and firing heavy artillery. Consequently, there was a local battle in which a junta soldier died and many weapons were confiscated. 
  • In Tetain Township of Chin State, the junta army carried out an aerial bombing on the camp of the Chin National Army Brigade (4). Reportedly, two members of the CNA lost lives. 
  • In Karenni State, 53 junta soldiers died and 29 weapons were confiscated in local battles from 14 to 19 April. 

The Military Council 

  • In Lewe Township of Nay Pyi Taw, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing went to two local villages where there had been casualties and damages due to a rare tornado. Reportedly, he provided support to the victims. 
  • To combat illegal arms dealing on the border of Thailand and Myanmar, there was a meeting between the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday. 
  • To provide necessary assistance to Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand, there was a meeting between the junta Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Minister of Thailand on Friday. 
  • The junta Ministry of Planning and Finance allowed tax exemption for the import of 6 items related to solar energy for power sufficiency in the country. 
  • According to the Director General of the junta Ministry of Planning and Finance, it was just a rumor that there would be a pay raise for the government employees at the end of April. 
  • To take measures against the new type of COVID-19, the junta Minister of Health instructed for preventive measures as necessary including medicine and the arrangements of treatment centres. 
  • The Director General of the International Relations Department (Asia) met with former military dictator Than Shwe and former President Thein Sein. Reportedly, he asked them mainly about the political crisis in Myanmar after the military coup. 
  • The military junta announced that 15 members of the KIA and the PDF without any crime defected to the community in Sagaing Region and Shan South. 
  • U Sai Kyaw Thu, the Deputy Director General of the junta Union Election Commission, was assassinated near Aung Yadanar Hospital in Thingangyun Township at about 2:00 pm Saturday. 

Summary on 22 April 

  • In recent days, there have been frequent discussions between the military junta of Myanmar and some foreign countries. Reportedly, the junta leader discussed with the Thai government how to reduce cross-border arms dealing. Therefore, the members of the revolution forces have to be careful about that. 
  • The defensive war of the revolution forces has gained momentum. On the other hand, the junta armed forces conduct more oppression on local people and use heavy weapons in battles if they have a great loss.
