The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Monday, the NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration announced that SPECIAL OPERATION FORCE (S.O.F) had been running under the direct guidance of the Southern Military Management Team.
  • On Sunday, there was an event on the completion of Special Operation Commando Unit Training (1/2022) by Myeik District PDF in Tanintharyi Region. Reportedly, the (NUG) Minister of Defence sent a statement.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Insein Township in Yangon Region, there was an attack with 40mm grenade on Insein Central Jail at about 4:00 am on Monday. Reportedly, a junta soldier from the prison department was hit and injured.
  • In Kyauktan Township, an unexploded hand-made bomb was found at Thilawa Local Industrial Zone at about 9:00 am on Monday.
  • In Thanlyin Township, members of the junta police tried to arrest a mentally-ill person on Monday morning. Reportedly, sergeant Thant Zin was stabbed to death and another policeman got injured.
  • In Eastern Dagon Myothit Township, there were bomb explosions at the township court and electricity department on Sunday night.
  • In Thanlyin Township, a junta informer was allegedly shot dead by the Soul Takers- Yangon Underground Force on Sunday evening.
  • In Monywa Township in Sagaing Region, a retired soldier, a retired supervisor of a Cooperative Department and a middle school teacher were shot dead in Acttaw Village at about 11:00 am Monday.
  • In Ayadaw Township, there was a rally against the military dictatorship on the Monywa-Ayadaw road section on Monday morning They raised an anti-junta banner and burned a military uniform.
  • On their 561st day of protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • On their 529th day of protest, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • On Monday, local PDFs issued instructions telling the public what to do and not do on the road sections in Sagaing, Monywa and Shwebo districts.
  • In Khin-U, there was a powerful explosion at Kyawsihein Restaurant at about 7:00 am Monday. Reportedly, a man in a tea-shop opposite died and two others were injured.
  • There was a letter allegedly issued by a local PDF leader saying that an explosion would be conducted at Bawgar gems market in Sagaing. In response, the leader of Sagaing District PDF Brigade (1) said that they would never do that.
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta armed forces set fire to two local villages in the area of Alaungdaw Katthapa Pagoda in recent days. Reportedly, over 100 houses were burnt down and 5 people were killed.
  • In Chaung-U Township, there was a bomb attack using a drone on the junta Pyu Saw Htee camp in Kangyigone Village on Saturday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died.
  • In Katha Township, there were two battles between the junta army and Myohla PDF on Saturday. Reportedly, five junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • In Pyigyi Dagun Township in Mandalay Region, an alleged junta informer was shot dead at about 7:00 am on Monday.
  • In the east of Madayar Township, a troop of 27 junta soldiers was attacked with mines on Sunday afternoon. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • In Wandwin Township, a local PDF sent a second letter of warning to U Sein Nyunt, allegedly a junta informer in Tanaunggone Village, on Saturday.
  • In Gantgaw Township in Magwe Region, the junta army burnt the camp of the local PDF (12) on Monday morning.
  • In Hinthada Township in Ayeyarwaddy Region, there was a mine explosion at 11:00 am on Sunday. Reportedly, an old man aged over 80 died.
  • In Thailand, the MFDMC organised the campaigns for Spring Revolution in the areas with Myanmar migrant workers on Sunday.
  • According to the Chin Relief Funding Program (CRFP), the fund from Tumi Lottery Batch (3) was donated to the Chin Defence Forces, local PDFs, CDM organisations and the injured in Chin State.
  • The Anti-Coup Committee (Korea) announced that via the One-Day Challenge, they had supported 18 PDFs with 20 lakh MMK each.
  • Reportedly, 864 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) requested the United Nations General Assembly to withdraw the authority of the UN Special Envoy on Myanmar. They also condemned her meeting with the war criminal Min Aung Hlaing.
  • CDM Captain Nyi Thuta said that over 3,5000 soldiers had joined the CDM.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • The chair of the Lahu Democratic Union (LDU) stated that the team led by Kyarsawlamaw attending the second military junta peace discussions had just abused the name of LDU and they did not represent Lahu people.
  • In the north of Maungdaw Township in Rakhine State, there was more fighting between the junta army and Arakan Army (AA) on Monday.
  • In Paletwa Township in Chin State and Maungdaw Township in Rakhine State, there were heavy battles between the junta armed forces and AA in recent days. Reportedly, the AA took control of some junta army camps in Paletwa Township.
  • In Katha Township in Sagaing Region, a combined force of PDFs under the Kachin Independence Army Brigade (12) attacked the junta army stationing in Bantmwaygone Village at 5:30 am on Monday. Reportedly, there were many casualties among junta soldiers.
  • In a liberated area of Kayin State, the Kawthoolei Army led by General Saw Nerdah Mya amended their constitution and set up a more organised group.
  • In Fruso Township in Karenni State, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and a Karenni combined force on Sunday.
  • In the third week of August, there were heavy battles between the junta armed forces and Karenni combined forces. Reportedly, at least three junta soldiers died and many others were injured.

The Military Council

  • On Sunday, 3 EAOs: the Pao National Liberation Organization, the Lahu Democratic Union and the Arakan Liberation Party; arrived at Naypyitaw to join the military junta's second peace discussion.
  • Accusing him of supporting the NUG, CRPH and PDF, the military junta arrested Ko Kyaw Thura, the owner of the Myanmar Thura Jade Company in Mandalay, and his driver. They also sealed off his property worth one billion MMK.
  • According to the junta propaganda newspaper, the junta army won the first prize in the Tank Biathlon (Tank Crews Competition) Division-2 of the International Army Games-2022.
  • The military junta announced that two electricity towers had been blown up near Kawnywet Village in Kawkareik Township in Kayin State on Sunday night. Consequently, there was power coutage in four local townships.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce, over 600,000 tons of various beans were exported for an income of 460 million MMK in the four-month period of the fiscal year.
  • According to military and economic sources, the Authentic Construction Company won junta construction projects, including the Moekaung Yadanar Hospital, becoming Min Aung Hlaing's new crony business.
  • In Pauk Township in Magwe Region, the junta armed forces have been burning local villages for three days. Consequently, thousands of villagers have had to run away amidst heavy rain and strong wind.
  • In Gyankhine Township in Ayeyarwaddy Region, a junta soldier got out of breath and died during the invasion of the Rakhine Mountain Range on 17 August.
  • In Tanintharyi Township in Tanintharyi Region, the junta army arrested local people and used them as human shields in the fighting at Kawmapyin Village.

Summary on 23 August

  • The military junta arrested the owner of the Myanmar Thura Jade Company and sealed off his property, accusing him of supporting the CRPH, NUG and PDF. Judging from that, the junta has been finding fault with any business people against them and stealing from them.
  • The EAOs, who came to join the second peace discussion of the military junta, are the ones from the areas where there is no fighting against the junta army. Some of them have internal divisions.
  • Fighgting resumed between the junta army and the AA. Reportedly, the military junta faced great losses and they had to abandon some of their camps.
