Spring Revolution Daily News for 23 July 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In the Political Forum of high-ranking officials for 2023 in New York of the United States, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations U Kyaw Moe Tun claimed that only when the military dictatorship came to an end, Myanmar would be on the right track again to successfully implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 
  • According to the Special Operation Force of Southern Military Region under Ministry of Defence- NUG, they managed to conduct a large number of battles to gain control of the junta army camps over the period of two years, clearing off more than 260 junta soldiers. 
  • On Friday, Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) released a statement welcoming the 7th sanction of the European Union on 6 individuals and an organization. 
  • In Saw Township of Magwe Region, there were battles between a combined force of PDFs + LPDFs and the junta army invading along Kyauktu-Saw Road for four days. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died. 
  • Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment-NUG stated that they had been proceeding to take Thai PTTEP Company in association with Myanmar’s military junta in oil and energy sector to the Court of Singapore. 
  • In New York, 40 students from Burmese American Community Institute from Indiana State met with the UN Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun at his office. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Mandalay, the rental fee of houses has nearly doubled due to the increasing number of IDPs from the upcountry and the junta’s eviction of squatters. 
  • In Kanpetlet Township of Chin State, Minbu District PDF conducted a guerrilla attack on the junta army on Hmantaung Divergent Point. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Wetlet Township of Sagaing Region, there was an attack via drone and shells on the junta army stationing in Hanlin Ancient City. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Wetlet Township and Shwebo Township, there were three mine attacks on the junta army. Reportedly, 8 junta soldiers died. 
  • On Saturday, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Monywa Township, the junta army arrested and killed 5 locals, spreading the propaganda on Telegram that those people had been PDF members. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, the two junta troops raided Sonechaung Village. Reportedly, they committed a massacre of 3 PDF members and 11 civilians. 
  • In Hpasaung Township of Karenni State, there has been heavy fighting near Kyauk Pannyo Village and Wanaung Village on the eastern bank of Thanlwin River. Reportedly, the junta soldiers have been burning public’s houses. 
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, Thein Oo, a non-CDM officer from the junta Agricultural Department, was shot dead. 
  • In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, there was a mine attack on the junta army which had destroyed public’s property in Kangalay Village. Reportedly, a junta soldier died. 
  • In Yesagyo, there was an attack via 40mm grenades on the junta army conducting a meeting in Municipal Ward. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers were seriously injured. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • At 10:30 pm Friday, the junta army dropped four bombs via four fighter jets on Nansanyan Village, which is just 12 miles away from the Headquarters of Kachin Independence Army (KIA). 
  • In Shwekyin Township of Bago Region, there was a clash between the junta armed forces and a combined force of Karen National Liberation Army + PDF on Shwekyin-Donesayit Road. 
  • In Yebyu Township of Taninthayi Region, there has been fighting between the junta army and a combined force of KNLA+PDF since 18 July. 
  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, there were heavy battles along Mount Latkhat. On Friday, a combined force of KNLA claimed that they had been able to gain control of the area including the strategic station of the junta army in the mountain. 

The Military Council 

  • According to the junta propaganda media, General Zin Min Htet was replaced with Brigadier-General Ni Lin Aung for the post of the Chief Officer of Myanmar’s Police Force. 
  • There was a change for the position of the junta Northern Military Regional Chief Officer. 
  • The military junta issued an order that everyone working in Mandalay Gems Market must apply for a permit and those who fail to do so will be arrested. 
  • The military junta issued an order that online shopkeepers and service providers will be imprisoned from 6 months to 3 years or a fine worth 5 lakh MMK if they do not have a license. 
  • The Chair of Naypyi Taw Union Territory stated that it was a must to grow three crops a year. 
  • On Friday, the junta peace team met with United Wa State Party, National Democratic Alliance Army and Shan State Progressive Party for the second day. Reportedly, they signed some agreements. 
  • According to the junta propaganda leader, 70 monks from 9 countries will reportedly be present at the religious ceremony of Maryawizaya Buddha Image in Naypyi Taw. 

Summary on 23 July 

  • At the time that the whole country is in a devastating situation, the military junta has been abusing the resources to their hearts’ content. However, they have tried to pose challenges for the public struggling to run small businesses. 
  • The junta army has been ruthlessly killing anti-junta people, accusing them of being PDF members.
