Spring Revolution Daily News for 24 April 2022 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In their annual report to the public, Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG said that the interim public administration had been established in 26 townships of Sagaing and Magwe regions. 
  • Ministry of Women, Youth and Children-NUG announced that 5 paintings would be sold by lots to support the CDM staff. 
  • Ministry of Health-NUG said that 40 healthcare workers had been killed by the military junta and 362 others had been arrested since the coup last year. 
  • Starting from 20 April, applications could be made for Student CDM ID from Grade (8) to Grade (11) for the first time. Reportedly, over 2500 CDM students applied for it within 24 hours. 
  • Under the accountability of the NUG, Save Myanmar (USA) organized the 5th meeting between Myanmar doners from the international community and selected PDF members to raise funds at 7:00 am on Saturday. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Pauk Township of Magwe Region, the junta army raided and set fire to Kyungyi Village at 11:00 am Saturday. 
  • On Thursday, Kyaukhtu PDF found a car carrying junta army products during their inspection on Pakkoku-Kyaukhtu Road. Reportedly, they set fire to those products. 
  • In Khin-U Township of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces raided Ywatha Village with over 800 houses on Saturday morning, firing mortars. They then set fire to the village. Reportedly, almost the whole village was burnt down and an IDP died of shock due to the sound of mortars. 
  • As a 409-day protest, a powerful rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • On Saturday, Monywa District PDF warned the local police force that they would be assassinated if they fail to join the public and just continue to work for the military junta. 
  • After the battles in Pinlebu, the junta armed forces have been demolishing people’s houses in town. 
  • Monywa Township Students’ Union took to the streets against the military dictatorship, raising an anti-junta banner. 
  • In the south of Kalay Township, local PDF attacked the junta army invading the area at 10:00 am Friday. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers died. As for PDF, one of their members lost their life due to mortar fire and 2 others were injured. 
  • At 8:00 pm on 20 April, singer Aung La and actress Wine Su Khine Thein were arrested by the military junta for participating in anti-junta movements. Reportedly, they were released later. 
  • Foodpanda Myanmar Riders announced that they would continue their strike as the issue of the company’s exploitation was not resolved. 
  • In Thingangyun Township of Yangon Region, the junta army arrested 6 family members of actress Htet Nady as they could not find her. 
  • In Pinlong Township of Shan South, a combined force of KNDF attacked the junta inspection camp in Taungmethin Village on 5 April. On Saturday, Pekone PDF released a video about the attack. 
  • In Ywangan Township, the junta army killed 9 people from Peyintaung Village on Friday. 
  • In Shweku Township of Kachin State, Myohla KPDF attacked the junta army invading Minkyaunggone Village at 7:30 pm Friday. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • In Chin State, the junta army arrested 2 local people and 2 CDM staff members regarding the case in which 2 fully-armed junta soldiers in charge of security at Myanmar Economics Bank in Matupi had run away. 
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, MSRO conducted an attack at the junta inspection camp near Ywathit Village at 9:00 am Saturday. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died and a captain was injured. 
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Taninthayi Region, junta soldiers shot dead a passer-by for no apparent reason near Yantaung Village School. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • With regard to the invitation of the military junta for peace, AA stated that they would discuss it with their alliance. 
  • The Communication Officer of the KIO said that Min Aung Hlaing had talked about meeting with EAOs just to find an escape from the military and political crisis, and there was no way to find a solution from such a meeting. 
  • A member of PPST said that he welcomed the invitation of the military junta to meet with EAO leaders as it was a positive sign. 
  • On Saturday, Pekone Township Public Administration expressed their special concerns for security of non-CDM staff with regard to arrangements of the military junta to reopen schools. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta Minister of Industry said that a company providing YBS services had proposed the change for public transportation with electric buses in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw. 
  • According to the junta media, freshers’ welcome ceremony for first year distance education students was held at Mandalay Education Degree College on Friday. 
  • The junta Minister of Information said that some LNG projects and energy companies left the country as it was not economically viable for them due to extremely high prices. He also said that despite the suspension of some LNG projects, a company had proposed an investment plan for LNG to MIC. 
  • On Friday, U Kyaw Lin, Deputy Minister of Construction, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, together with labour, in accordance with Section (55) of anti-corruption law. 
  • The military junta announced that ethnic armed organizations were not to recruit, carry out operations, expand the area, attack the camps of security forces or disturb the military headquarters, which would interfere with the peace process, during the period of invitation for peace and at the time of peace discussions. 
  • The junta leader instructed responsible personnel to arrange for payment with the Hong Kong Dollar and Thai Baht in the sales of pearls and gems, in addition to the USD, Euro and Yuan. 
  • The junta Minister of Information said that they would like the international community to cooperate with understanding and trust for the elections and stability of the country. 
  • Ministry of Health stated that responsible personnel of the airline department and ticket agents were to inform passengers precisely about health requirements before the sale of tickets. 

Summary on 23 April 

  • Most EAOs responded that they had no trust in the invitation of the junta leader for peace. They assumed it sought to create division between them and PDFs. They also said that the military junta was just buttering them up with this offer as they had a great loss in all sectors. 
  • There were heavy battles in Sagaing, Magwe, Karenni and Karen. As for Taninthayi, Yangon, Mandalay, Bago and Shan South, they had powerful guerrilla revolution. In battles, the junta armed forces faced a great loss and the trust in the junta leader lessened among junta soldiers and pro-military people.
