The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In a government meeting on Tuesday, the Acting President of the NUG stated that the victory of defensive war depends to a great extent on the ability to form military alliances.
  • In the government meeting, Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that a large number of junta soldiers have been losing their lives in battles and at the same time, many others have run away. Reportedly, over 500 junta soldiers including officers have deserted the junta army over the period of five months.
  • According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs- NUG, it is necessary for the United Nations organizations to have transparent relations with the NUG, the ethnic revolution forces and the civil society organizations on the ground, in addition to the military junta, so that they can provide humanitarian assistance more effectively to Myanmar people in need all across the country.
  • On 20 August, the People’s Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG issued a congratulatory statement for the release of the law and the constitution of Chin State People’s Police Force.
  • On Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence - NUG officially announced that they had sent more than 400 drones to the PDFs throughout the country.
  • Since May 2022 up to now, Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management- NUG has supported over 200 lakh MMK for the internally displaced people in Mawlight Township of Sagaing Region.
  • On Tuesday morning, there was a meeting between People’s Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG and People’s Security Forces from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region.
  • On Tuesday afternoon, there was a meeting between the Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration- NUG and Township People’s Administration from Yangon Region.
  • In Phyuu Township of Bago Region, there was a sniper attack on Oatphyat Inspection Gate on the morning of 20 August. According to the Ministry of Defence- NUG, a junta soldier died.
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, an alliance of revolutionary forces attacked the junta army firing mortars for no apparent reason.
  • In Kyaukdagar Township of Bago Region, the railroad section was blown up between Penwegone and Tawgwein on Tuesday morning.
  • On Tuesday afternoon, there was a mine attack on the junta police from Nyaungbinwun Police Station demanding money from the travelers in Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region. Reportedly, a junta policeman died.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against Wanbao Company on Wednesday.
  • In Sagaing Township, the junta army invaded the area, killing two people. They also set fire to 4 villages. In addition, 5 PDF members lost their lives whereas thousands of local residents had to run away.
  • In Khin-U Township, the junta army invaded the area on Tuesday. Consequently, more than 8,000 people had to run away. Among them, an old man died of dyspnea.
  • In Ayadaw Township, there was an attack on three 12-wheelers of the junta army on the Monywa-Ayadaw Road on 20 August. Reportedly, 17 junta soldiers died.
  • In Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, there was a mine attack on a light truck carrying junta soldiers on their way out from Kyaukkan Village on Tuesday evening. Reportedly, five of them died.
  • In Magwe Region, there was a mine attack on a junta convoy on their way from Pauk Township to Pakkoku Township on Monday. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among the junta soldiers.
  • In Pauk Township, there was an attack on the junta police carrying out inspections on Tuesday morning. Reportedly, a junta policeman died and a gun was confiscated along with bullets.
  • On Tuesday evening, there was a grenade attack on the junta inspection gate at the entrance to Natmauk.
  • In Kyaukdagar Township of Bago Region, the junta army randomly shot mortars on Monday night. Reportedly, two people died within two days.
  • In Minhla Township, the military junta tightened security measures in town due to the news that the PDF members had been there.
  • In Phyuu Township of Bago Region, the junta armed forces raided and stationed in Yebyar Village and Thanutgwin Village on Wednesday morning. They then drove away the villagers.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, Dawei Democratic Movement Strike Committee marched for the boycott of junta army products on Tuesday.
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, the junta army, stationing at Nantya Strategic Hill, shot mortars on Tuesday. Reportedly, a local woman was hit and injured.
  • In Kyaikto Township of Mon State, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army on secret patrol near Hsin Phyu Daw Monastery in Ward (5) of Theinzayat.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

  • According to the Karen National Union (Central), two people from Wawlay Village got injured in Kawkarait Township of Kayin State on Tuesday as the junta army shot at them for no apparent reason.
  • In Demoso Township of Karenni State, the junta army has been invading the area.

The Military Council

  • The second junta leader stated that the national household and population census would be collected from 1 to 15 October 2024.
  • In a press conference on Tuesday, the junta propaganda leader claimed that they would constantly support the economic welfare of government employees.
  • The junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun stated that they had helped private banks not to collapse at the time of the military coup led by Min Aung Hlaing, but the banks were not faithful and the business people were just greedy ones.
  • The junta propaganda leader claimed that the military junta would not go for the path of meetings and so-called terrorist organisations must give up their violence first to have discussions with them.
  • The junta propaganda leader said that the invitation to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) would be just to some extent.
  • On Tuesday, the junta Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations stated that they had been importing only the essentials for the country.
  • The junta Deputy Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment claimed that they had faced great losses due to the sanctions of the United States on the Myanma Foreign Trade Bank and the Myanma Investment and Commercial Bank.
  • The junta Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economics and Commerce stated that Myanmar had 3.5 million tons of rice in reserve and thus, it would be self-sufficient until November.
  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, Colonel Thet Min Thu from the junta army died in the fighting to gain Latkattaung Camp controlled by the revolutionary forces.
  • The junta police force arrested two Chinese people, allegedly committing fraud in Myanmar by the use of Technology. They then transferred them to the Chinese Police Force.
  • According to the junta examination department under the Ministry of Education, the exam application form for the 2024 matriculation exam will be sold from 1 September 2023.

Summary on 24 August

  • Despite claiming that the sanction of the US would not have much effect, the military junta had to admit later that they had suffered a great loss in reality.
  • In the eastern part of Bago Region, there has been much military tension. As usual, the junta army suffered great losses and has been burning villages and killing people. Therefore, local people should have preventive measures in advance.
