The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In accordance with the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in the People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 59 members of the junta armed forces had died and 15 others had been injured on Wednesday.
  • Due to ongoing battles in KNU areas, the IDPs have arrived at Thaungyin river bank on the Thai-Myanmar border and they have been provided with humanitarian assistance. Reportedly, there was support worth over 400 lakh MMK up until Wednesday.
  • According to the NUG, those who would like to be PRF members can submit their names or nicknames or email address via OFP Official Fundraiser all over the world and make their contribution. As soon as they become PRF members, they can send ID card via email for every month of contribution.

Revolution Activities

  • In Mingala Taung Nyunt Township of Yangon Region, Basic Education Students’ Union led a march against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • According to Yangon University Students’ Union, Ko Aung Phone Maw, CEC member, was sentenced to 3 years in prison together with hard labour under the charge of Section (505-A) at the court in Western Hlaingthaya.
  • In Hleku Township, Aung Kyi Thein and his son Ye Zaw Oo, allegedly junta informers and Pyusawti leaders, died on their way back from cockfights as they were attacked by a local PDF at about 5:00 pm Wednesday.
  • According to Minkin PDF Regiment (1), PDFs confiscated jade, illegally transported on the Chindwin River, and handed it over to the NUG.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, local people marched for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces have been carrying out attacks on villages with military helicopters every day. Reportedly, no less than 15 people died and many others were injured.
  • On Thursday afternoon, the junta army conducted an air strike at Natchaung Village on Kalay-Gantgaw Road with Mi35p fighting helicopter.
  • As a 319-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship amidst tight security measures on Thursday.
  • In Ye-U Township of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces conducted attacks with Mi35p and set fire to houses in Yemyet Village on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to local PDF, about 60 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • On Thursday, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In the east of Yinmabin Township, Benwechaung villagers conducted a dawn march against the military dictatorship on Thursday as their 260-day protest.
  • In a village of Dibeyin Township, local people expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Daegu of South Korea, Korean people, led by Daegu Sayardaw, conducted their weekly protest against the military junta in Myanmar on Thursday.
  • In Kantbalu Township, the junta army raided Yedwe Village on 20th December. According to local residents, junta soldiers set fire to many houses and stationed in the village.
  • In Kalay Township, the junta army made air strikes with helicopters on Natchaung Village. Reportedly, they began to set fire on the whole village at about 5:00 pm Thursday.
  • In Monywa, local residents of Latbadaung Taung Area led a march against the military dictatorship on Thursday, holding banner - ‘Let’s join the revolution together with PDFs to end the troubles of IDPs’.
  • On Thursday, Kayin youth expressed their desire calling on Kayin armed organizations to join hands with KNU for national liberation and self-determination, stand with Kayin people and fight against the common enemy or the military junta.
  • In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, a combined force of 100 junta soldiers and 50 Pyusawti members raided and destroyed Sammyo Village on Tuesday. Reportedly, more than 30 houses were burnt down and local residents were in emergency need of food and clothes.
  • In Pauk Township, People revolution army (PRA) shot a projectile at Thayetkan Police Station, where 200 junta soldiers had been stationing, at about 2:45 am Wednesday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.
  • On Thursday, a rally of southern Myaing Township marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Mindat Township of Chin State, there was a fighting between the junta armed forces and local PDF at Kwiyain Village at about 2:00 pm Wednesday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and 5 others were injured.
  • In Mindat Township, 3 mortars shot by the junta armed forces fell and exploded in Wanmathu Village on 20th December. According to The Mindat Post, one of them went off in the female patients ward in the compound of the hospital.
  • In Bamaw of Kachin State, lawyer Kyaw Than Aye, allegedly a junta informer in Tadkalay Ward, was shot dead by unknown gunmen at about 7:35 am Thursday.
  • On Thursday, Mandalay Monks’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • In Maungdaw of Rakhine State, Ko Tun Tun Naing, a resident of Ward (1), was killed on Wednesday evening.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Shadaw Township of Kayar (Karenni) State, a car of military officer from locally-based junta army, was attacked by KA on 20th December. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers, including officer Aung Ko Ko, died and 1 other was caught alive.
  • At about 11:30 am Thursday, U Matunaw, leader of Kachin Defense Army – KDA, died of chronic illness at his house in Kaungkha.

The Military Council

  • The junta media council prohibited written description of ranks and positions of members of the NLD government. They also announced that they would not take responsibility for such writing.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the attackers of the South Okkalapa police station with 40mm grenade launcher, and their associates and parents were arrested.
  • The second junta leader Soe Win said that rather than respond to natural disasters, it was necessary to carry out preventive measures and preparation in any possible way for disaster risk management.
  • According to the military junta, 330 sets of pearl and 622 sets of jade were sold to local and international gems traders during the Mini Gems Emporium.
  • The junta ministry announced that they got the taxation of 6 billion MMK from the fishery sector, including over 786 million USD from exports. Therefore, over 2 million USD was available on average on a daily basis from that sector.
  • Reportedly, the junta minister of information and the junta minister for investment and foreign economic relations met with Chinese media and answered their questions.
  • At the graduation of female captains batch (8), the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that despite the duty of the army to fight against local and foreign enemies, they were also to carry out preventive measures against political interference, economic sanctions, spread of false information and cultural penetration.

Summary on 23rd December

  • The military junta have been committing war crimes by targeting civilians in their attacks with helicopters in Chin and Sagaing.
  • In some areas of Sagaing Region, local PDFs gained influence and they, in cooperation with the NUG, managed to carry out administration and judiciary affairs. In such areas, the junta armed forces conducted attacks with prejudice.
  • Despite the arrests of some young revolutionists in Yangon, there were revolution activities without losing momentum. As for Sagaing, Mandalay, Magwe and Kayin, they had protests and other anti-junta movements.
