Yangon Region

• According to local residents of Kamayut Township, there was an explosion near Basic Education Primary School No. (15) on Baho road on Thursday night.
• On Friday morning, there was a protest against the military dictatorship inside Insein Prison.
• The public in Yangon banged pots and pans at noon Friday to show that they stand with political prisoners.
• After anti-junta slogans came out from Insein Prison on Friday morning, a rally led by Yangon youth marched in support of political heroes in detention.
• AAPP announced on Friday afternoon that some members of prison staff took part in the protest inside Insein prison and the junta armed forces were raiding the prison.
• Thai Embassy in Yangon announced that the process of visa issuance would be suspended in Myanmar for unlimited days, starting from 26th July, due to devastating conditions of COVID-19 infection in the country.
• In Insein Township, basic education students led a campaign named “From the people to the people” on Friday, distributing food to those living from hand to mouth.
• The public and social workers have to wait in queues for oxygen refills for COVID-19 patients. However, with the don’t-care-attitude towards those people, members of the military junta get easy access to oxygen as much as they need.
• Amidst patrols and arrests, the youth and the students from Shwepyitha Township made an anti-junta movement at about 3:00 pm Friday.
• Yangon Urban Guerrillas, an alliance of 14 Yangon PDFs, announced that they had been watching and recording the response of prison officers after the anti-junta protest in Insein Prison.

Mandalay Region

• On Thursday night, Mandalay Monks’ Union recited Parittas for the public.
• According to local residents of Mandalay, the junta armed forces opened fire on their patrols on Thursday night for no apparent reason and frightened the public.
• On Friday, Mandalay Monks’ Union recited Parittas for the public and protested against the military dictatorship.
• On Friday morning, a rally of Mandalay people took to the streets and expressed their objection to the military dictatorship.
• Mandalay University Unions announced that they strongly condemn human-rights violations and genocide activities by the junta armed forces.
• Amidst violent crackdowns by the junta armed forces, a rally of Mandalay Variety Forces marched against the military dictatorship after the anti-junta movement in Insein Prison.
• On Friday, a rally of Mandalay Engineers marched on Main road to show their support for political prisoners in Insein Prison and expressed their desire for the downfall of the military dictatorship.
• Mandalay Monks Union marched against the military dictatorship, saying that the anti-junta slogans coming out from Insein Prison were the voices of the public and they all stand with those political prisoners.

Sagaing Region

• In Kalay, the students and the public went around the town in the rain on Friday morning and expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship, holding signs with words of strong determination, including “Martyrs never die”.
• In Shwebo, two bombs exploded near Myanmar Shesaung Bank at about 9:30 am Friday. According to local residents, some junta soldiers were injured in the incident.
• At about 9:00 am Friday, the junta armed forces made a crackdown on the combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East. According to local residents, five volunteer nurses and two villagers were arrested.
• According to local residents along the river bank, 4 military ships carrying tanks passed Madaya in the waterway of Ayeyarwady river at about 8:30 am Friday and they arrived at Shwebo Kyauk-Myaung at about 1:00 pm.
• Ranger Kalay Defense Force announced that the public are to contact them if they happen to find unexploded mortars which the junta armed forces used during the battles in the south of Kalay. Local residents are not to clear the devices themselves.
• Yaw Defense Force (YDF) and Myaing PDF announced that they had cooperated as partner forces.
• In Wetlet Township, Basic Education Students’ Union (Ba-Ka-Tha) led an anti-junta movement on Friday.

Magwe Region

• In Aunglan, the youth conducted a campaign named “The people have only the people” on Friday, distributing food to the public from grass-roots level.
• In Taungdwingyi, the junta armed forces beat those who went out for health reasons during the curfew from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am.
• In Pakkoku, the youth led a “From the people to the people” campaign on Friday, distributing food and COVID-19 preventive items to the public living from hand to mouth.
• Local residents of Yenangyaung made a protest against the military dictatorship on Friday.

Taninthayi Region

• On Friday morning, Longlone Township rally protested against the military dictatorship, chanting anti-junta slogans.
• In Thayetchaung Township, the youth led an educational campaign on COVID-19 prevention on Friday, “We will overcome the pandemic. We will also fight against the junta army”.
• On Friday afternoon, Dawei General Strike, in cooperation with a rally of students, expressed their desire against the military dictatorship.
• In Longlone Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship in Lower Yebyu village on Friday evening, with the theme - “Unity inside and outside of Prisons”.
• In Longlone Township, local residents of Nyinmaw village marched for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Friday evening.
• In Thayetchaung Township, Bagyishaung villagers made an evening strike against the military dictatorship on Waso full moon day.

Kachin State

• On Friday morning, young residents of Moenyin placed posters along the road, calling on the townspeople not to let their blood cool down in memory of their martyrs - Soe Naing Tun and U Win Swe. They also called for ongoing participation in the fight against the military dictatorship.
• In Pha-Kant, a rally of Lonekhine group residents expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.

Kayar State

• As the battles resumed in Kayar State, local residents of two more villages had to run away. There were up to 3441 IDPs in Bawlake Township. According to a rescue team member, they were likely to face insufficient food problem.
• In the west of Fruso Township, a large number of the junta armed forces entered Hoya, Biya area on Thursday morning.
• KNDF announced on Friday that the junta armed forces had been carrying out violent operations in Phekone Township of Shan South as well as in Fruso, Bawlake and Phasaung townships of Kayar State during the third wave of COVID-19. Consequently, there might be battles any time and thus, the public need to be security-conscious.

Chin State

• In Mindat, some houses were on fire at about 11:00 pm Thursday. However, local residents did not dare to go outside and put out the fire as they heard gunfire.

Shan State

• On Friday, asses were transported from Taunggyi for the junta armed forces.

Bago Region

• In Bago prison, there are COVID-19 infected people and they need emergency health-care. Those who have charged with Section (505-a) for protesting against the military junta do not receive medicine and medical treatment.

Rakhine State

• Via Facebook, U Hla Then, communication officer of Rakhine State Military Council, said that oxygen plants could not be set up in other townships apart from Mrauk-U Township. At such time, only the council had to manage the situation and thus, they could not accept any writings which are not constructive.

Nay Pyi Taw

• The military junta announced the closure of schools for two more weeks, which they had reopened by force resisting COVID-19.
• With regard to the protest in prison on Friday, CRPH called on ICRC Myanmar to help political prisoners.
• The ambassadors from 16 countries announced that they had been closely watching the ongoing situation. They also called on the authorities to respect basic human rights to provide systematic and proper health care for all the prisoners.

Summary on 23rd July

• The protest in Yangon Insein Prison had ripple effects among the public. It also highlighted poor management of the military junta. All across Yangon, pots and pans were banged again to drive away junta devils. On the other hand, there was still the need for oxygen.
• In Mandalay, there were still public protests with great momentum as usual. The protest in Yangon prison had ripple effects in Mandalay as well. Mandalay rallies expressed that they all stand with political prisoners from Yangon Insein.
• In addition to protests against the military dictatorship in Sagaing Region, there were clashes with local PDFs as the junta armed forces had been strengthening their manpower there. According to reports, armed forces were likely to use manpower and weapons too much and they would use even tanks or armoured vehicles in Sagaing area.
• In Chin State and Kayar State, the battles started again and thus, the number of IDPs would increase in the upcoming days. There might even be heavy fighting.
• In other states and regions, there were almost no protests. As for Shan State, local residents might need assistance for COVID-19 as well as for the devastating flood.
