The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Saturday, there was a meeting of the Interim Public Administration Central Committee where the Union Prime Minister called for the NUG’s areas of influence to be strengthened
  • for new areas of influence to be created.
  • The Special Advisory Council- Myanmar (SAC-M) requested that the military junta be permanently bexcluded from the ASEAN Summit due to their failure to implement the ASEAN 5-point consensus and their attacks on civilians.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Changwon in South Korea, Degu Sayardaw led the 60 th protest and a prayer event for peace on Sunday.
  • In Kyaukse Township in Mandalay Region, a local guerrilla force shot dead Aung Win, a former soldier collecting electricity bills in Myinkabak Village, on Saturday.
  • In Khin-U Township in Sagaing Region, junta soldiers pretending to be PDF members entered Ywatha Village on Saturday morning and set fire to 62 houses. Reportedly, they also shot
  • dead a villager and killed another hostage by beheading him.
  • In Salingyi Township, local people on motorbikes went round the villages and protested against the military dictatorship on Sunday, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • On their 410 th day of protest, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Sunday, holding a banner that said ‘Equip the
  • arms of ideas’.
  • In the south of Kalay Township, a combined force of local PDFs ambushed junta soldiers near Natchaung Village at 10:30 am Sunday. Reportedly, five junta soldiers died on the spot.
  • In a battle near Yeshin Village south of Kalay Township on Friday, about 20 junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members, including three officers, died. Reportedly, the junta army did not
  • pick up their dead, so local PDFs confiscated the bodies and their weapons in their clearance operation of the area.
  • In Shwebo Township, local residents marched for the NUG and the release of all political prisoners on Sunday morning. They also expressed their disapproval of the military
  • dictatorship.
  • In Pauk Township in Magwe Region, the junta army raided Nyaungyin Village and destroyed people’s property. Reportedly, they also shot dead two villagers at close range and arrested
  • five others.
  • In Myaing Township, the Basic Education General Strike Committee and local people marched against the military dictatorship at dusk, holding anti-junta signs. A committee
  • member also talked to the public about the revolution.
  • In Hakha Township in Chin State, there was fighting against the junta army based in Gangaw Township in Magwe Region. According to the CNA, 30 junta soldiers died and many others
  • were injured.
  • In Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region, youths from a village expressed their objection to the military dictatorship on Sunday.
  • In Yay in Mon State, a local PDF shot at an alleged junta informer at about 9:30 am on Sunday.
  • In Pha-Ang Township in Kayin State, there were announcements at administration offices that people could apply to work in cooperation with the junta security forces for a wage of
  • 7000 MMK per day, regardless of their age.
  • In Kyain Seikgyi Township, there was a battle between a combined force of the KNLA and the junta army near the police station in Dagundine Village at about 1:00 pm on Saturday.
  • Reportedly, at least one junta soldier died. Due to wild firing from the police station, a woman died and two other local people were injured.
  • On 21 April, the junta army arrested Ko Htet Paing Soe, a third-year student from Yangon Economics University.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • On Saturday, the Chief Military Officer of the KNLA instructed members of the KNU forces not to shoot at or destroy passenger vehicles, trucks and civilians’ cars on the Myawaddy-
  • Kawkaraik Asia Road.
  • On Sunday, the 58 th anniversary of SSPP-SSA was celebrated at their headquarters. 
  • In Beelin Township under KNU Brigade (1), the KNDO warned junta soldiers and BGF members to leave Laykay and Wintapan camps by 6:00 pm on Saturday. Reportedly, they
  • warning shots at the junta forces who refused to leave.
  • In Demoso Township in Karenni State, the KNDF announced on Saturday that the junta army had to retreat from some of their stations in the area.

The Military Council

  • The junta education department announced exam results for basic education schools throughout the country for the 2021-22 academic year.
  • The junta Union Minister of Investment and International Economic Relations said that western NGOs in Myanmar tend to object to hydro-power projects, especially the ones
  • which would be implemented with support from China and that western community would like to prohibit the inflow of more investments from China into the country.
  • On 19 April, the assistant director of the Myanmar Economic Bank in Taunggyi was arrested by the military junta.
  • The junta chief minister of Sagaing Region attended the ceremony to support non-CDM staff with a gun concealed in his waistband.
  • The NUG announced that from 2,000 lakh MMK up to 10,000 lakh MMK would be given to those who destroyed or put out of action airplanes, vessels, helicopters and other junta machinery. Following the announcement, extra security measures had to be taken for helicopters and fighter jets, according to military sources.

Summary on 25 April

  • The military junta seemed to think that just a large attack on the KNU in Kayin State would be sufficient to weaken the NUG. Reportedly, the junta armed forces had to rely on air
  • strikes as they could not win battles on the ground. As for the KNU, they fired mortars to warn junta soldiers who failed to leave the area.
  • In the middle of the country, there were battles between the junta armed forces and local PDFs. The junta soldiers suffered great losses and they had to run away without taking their
  • dead.
  • In Karenni State, there were many attacks on junta army camps, causing a large number of casualties among junta soldiers. For the time being, the junta army is facing attacks from all
  • sides.
