The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In a government meeting on Tuesday, the NUG Acting President stated that there were constant discussions to gain a strong and concise political charter in the Spring Revolution.
  • The NUG Acting President claimed that it was necessary to systematically prepare for a fight that will put an end to the military dictatorship because the public will not get lost.
  • On Monday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and District Coordination Teams. Reportedly, they discussed the best ways to promote public administrations and the people’s revolution.
  • On Monday, the NUG Ministry of Education released a statement, acknowledging (33) online schools as interim education providers for students who have lost the right to education.
  • According to the NUG Union Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment, the NUG will build condominiums on land confiscated by the junta army on Gabar Aye Road in Yangon. Reportedly, they earned 10.35 million USD from the sale of the apartments within 24 hours.
  • According to the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) decided that they did not recognize the military junta which has overthrown the elected government and seized power by force. They also showed their support for the MPs elected in the 2020 General Election.
  • With regard to the Sovereignty of the People, the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) conducted a video conference discussion with international experts from Australia and India at 8:00 pm on Sunday.
  • According to a spokesperson of the NUG Representative’s Office in Japan, they, in cooperation with Spring Revolution Forces, will send a letter of request to the Japanese government via the Japanese Foreign Ministry on 1 February.
  • In Mindat Township in Chin State, the junta fighter jets conducted a second bombing on the monastery in Palaittwe Village, where the IDPs had been taking refuge, at about 11:00 am on Monday.
  • On Monday, the NUG Minister of Home Affairs awarded a sniper gun to Ko Nway Oo, a PDF member who has shoot dead 57 junta soldiers.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday, holding up revolutionary signs.
  • In Khin-U Township, a combined rally of local public administrations, local defence forces, people in education and local people marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • In Salingyi Township, a rally of the Letbadaung Taung General Strike held anti-junta public talks on Tuesday.
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta soldiers killed Ko Nay Tun by chopping off his head and hands in the north of Sonechaung Village on Monday. They also arrested four other villagers and took them away to their base.
  • In Pale Township, a combined force of local PDFs attacked the junta army and Pyu Saw Htee militia stationed in Zee Phyu Gone Village at 5:45 am on Monday. Reportedly, there were casualties among a large number of junta members.
  • In Yinmabin Township, the junta armed forces set fire to seven local villages in Kyauk Hmaw Village Tract on Monday. Reportedly, hundreds of people’s houses were burnt to ashes and PDF members had to quickly put out the fires.
  • In Shwebo Township, there were surprise attacks on four junta army and Pyu Saw Htee camps in Tethidaw Village on Sunday morning. Reportedly, many junta members died.
  • In Banmauk Township, a second police sergeant, together with weapons, joined the CDM on Sunday evening.
  • Anyar Pyit Tie Taung, in cooperation with Darmasai Bo Swam and the Dhamma Worker Group Singapore, donated household utensils and clothes to 87 families who were victims of fires in three villages in Salingyi.
  • On Tuesday, comrades from the forests and Yangon Strike conducted a photo campaign against the military dictatorship and the junta’s fake election.
  • In Yesagyo Township in Magwe Region, there was a mine attack on junta soldiers on motorbikes on patrol near the local police station at about 4:00 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, two of them died.
  • At 3:00 pm on Monday, there was a mine attack on junta soldiers walking in front of a junta convoy in Myaing Township. Reportedly, a large number of them died.
  • In Launglon Township in Tanintharyi Region, there was a night protest against the military dictatorship and the junta’s superficial elections, on Monday.
  • In Tanintharyi Township, rumor has it that junta forces have been demanding money from vehicles on the way to Mawtaung. According to a representative of Tanintharyi Region PDF, it is not the PDFs who are doing so.
  • In Moenyin Township in Kachin State, U Tin Nyunt, a member of the SSP Party, was shot dead on Tuesday morning while he was sitting at a tea shop.
  • In Ye Township in Mon State, drones bombed the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (591) at about 3:00 pm on Monday.
  • According to a conference of the Mon State Federal Council, the Mon State Interim Cooperation Committee, which represents Mon State and the Mon people, has become part of the Mon State Federal Council.
  • On Tuesday, Pekone PDF warned the people not to march along with the junta army troops, guide them or carry rations and weapons.
  • In Phaya Thonesu in Kayin State, the junta investigation office, the administration office and the immigration office were set on fire on Monday night. Reportedly, there were battles in town.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • Between KyarIn Seikgyi and Phayar Thonesu in Kayin State, the supporting force of junta army Regiment (44) was attacked at close range by a combined force of Lion Battalion Commando on Tuesday. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died.
  • According to a spokesperson of the DKBA, the junta army may have conducted an air strike on the house belonging to a top officer of the DKBA because they got bad information.
  • According to the Education Department of the KIO government, they will teach three more new subjects in Maijaran College under the control of the KIO.
  • In Mindat in Chin State, the military junta has been conducting aerial attacks. On Monday, a local CDF announced that such activities were war crimes.
  • The junta army plane flew over Wanhein, the SSP-SSA headquarters. According to the EAO, it was an insult and they asked the military junta why they had done it.
  • In the Kawthoolei Administrative Area under Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (1), nearly 4,000 local people have had to flee due to the danger of heavy artillery.

The Military Council

  • In a junta meeting in Naypyitaw on Monday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that the political party registration law will be reviewed, amended and adopted.
  • The junta leader claimed that they would try to hold the election under any circumstances.
  • On Monday, the junta Minister of Hotel and Tourism said that the number of foreign tourists had increased in 2022.
  • In a meeting with education personnel on Monday, the junta Minister of Education told teachers to teach students not only school lessons but also nationalism and patriotic spirit.
  • The junta Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation said that it was necessary to promote commercial production and private investment in silk to substitute imports and export it to other countries.
  • According to the junta Railway Department, there will be a fast train service from Yangon to Bagan and vice versa just once a week.
  • Under instructions from the Yangon Regional Military Headquarters, there will reportedly be investigations and actions against the CDM staff within one month.

Summary on 25 January

  • Despite the lack of stability all over the country, the junta leader claimed that the election will be held at any cost. He might think it is a way out of the political crisis for the junta.
  • The People’s Defensive War has gained momentum and now local defence forces have managed to conduct attacks on junta departments in towns. In the very near future, there might be frequent battles along with a powerful defensive war.
