The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On 19 March, there was a meeting between NUG personnel and members of armed forces (soldiers and police) who had deserted and were in a liberated area.
  • The NUG announced that they had blacklisted and dismissed 54 officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their oppression of CDM staff.
  • On Thursday, there was a discussion about Myanmar between NUG Ministers and representatives of the Australian Union Parliament Sub-Committee on Foreign, Defense and Trade Affairs.
  • Members of the Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) joined a discussion called ‘Jailed For Being Elected’ organised by ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR).
  • Invoking their right to defend themselves, people have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. Reportedly, 35 members of the junta armed forces died and 25 others were injured on Wednesday.

Revolution Activities

  • In Hlaingthaya Township in Yangon Region, U Hla Tun, a hundred-household leader, was shot dead in Nyaungywa Ward at 8:30 pm Wednesday while announcing the curfew through a loud speaker.
  • In Alone Township, the Special Task Agency Of Burma (STA) set fire to Omni Focus YBS 56 buses, owned by the grandson of the late junta leader Ne Win, at about 8:25 pm on Wednesday.
  • In Sanchaung Township, the junta army issued a warrant against Ma Khin Hnin Kyi Tha, the former editor of Yangon Khit Thit Media and sealed off a house where she had stayed on Myintmo Street on Wednesday.
  • In North Okkalapa Township, a combined rally of students’ unions conducted an anti-junta movement on Thursday morning.
  • On the 379th-day of protest, a combined rally of villages from Yinmabin and Salingyi marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Monywa Township, Aung San Win, allegedly a junta informer in Monyway Village, was attacked by Monywa Black Hunter Defense Force and Black Dragon Special Task Force on 21 March. Reportedly, he died in the incident.
  • In Katha Township, the junta army was attacked by Myohla PDF with mines and M79 grenades on their way from Moetalay Village to Wegyi Village at 7:20 am Thursday. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died.
  • PDF Kalay announced that the public were to be cautious south of Kalay Township as fighting in the area might get heavier.
  • After a heavy invasion by the junta army in the east of Wetlet Township, allegedly five junta informers in five villages were shot dead.
  • In Pakkoku Township in Magwe Region, Sein Htay, allegedly a junta informer and Pyu Saw Htee member in Yela Village, was shot dead in Kamma Market at 2:00 pm Wednesday.
  • In Myawaddy Township in Karen State, the junta army in Thingan Nyinaung Village fired mortars into Apyingwin Village on Thursday morning. Reportedly, a teenage girl died and three others were injured.
  • Reportedly, human traffickers have been persuading young women from Chin State, who have had to run away due to battles, that they would help them find jobs abroad.
  • In Mindat Township in Chin State, a convoy of 80 military trucks (including 2 armoured vehicles) and 200 junta soldiers arrived at the town at 3:00 pm Wednesday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to the KNDF, no less than seven junta soldiers died and many others were injured in battles between the junta army and Karenni combined forces in the third week of March In Karenni State.
  • In Tunzan, PDF- Zoland and Civic Defense Militia (CDM -Siyin) attacked junta troops stationed in a high school at about 4:00 am Wednesday.

The Military Council

  • According to the Mandalay City Development Committee, people will be allowed to play with water around the moat during Thingyan Festival. Reportedly, there will be water tankers stationed on 80 Street and 12X25 Street.
  • On Tuesday, three young people in Yangon were sentenced to life imprisonment and death for the second time, after being charged under the anti-terrorism law for murdering a school teacher in North Okkalapa Township and for setting off a bomb at an electricity office.
  • The junta Union Minister of Information said that cinemas would be reopened on the first day of the Myanmar New Year.
  • Reportedly, the junta union election commission instructed sub-commissions to stop all their preparations for the election.
  • Reportedly, the military junta made an offer to the KNU based in Karen State to take part in a ceasefire.
  • On Tuesday, Chan Myay Maung, an army nurse in a 100-bed military hospital, committed suicide by hanging herself.
  • The junta Central Bank informed banks that the committee would monitor and oversee money exchanges and take a percentage.
  • On Wednesday, the military junta arrested the junta-appointed Yangon Mayor Bo Htay and some municipal officers for misuse of land.
  • The military junta instructed all the junta staff to read the junta newspapers (Myanmar Alin, The Mirror and The Global New Light of Myanmar) without fail as they have very few readers.
  • In Patheingyi Township in Mandalay Region, 400 members of the junta armed forces raided wards and villages on Tuesday under the pretext of carrying out a clearance operation in the area. Reportedly, they arrested 15 people including Ko Zaw Ye Htet. Junta army officer Thawdar Htway led the operation.
  • On the Myingyan-Myotha Road, a junta army officer named Tun Tun Naing was shot dead by the police from Koatke police camp at 10:45 am Tuesday.
  • Despite the announcement by the junta health ministry that up to 400 people could get together due to a decrease in COVID-19 cases, there were announcements in some townships that no more than five people could gather together.
  • At a press conference, the military junta stated that even if the international community treats them as an enemy, they would try to make friends with them.
  • The junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun said that the schedules for reduced power supply throughout the country, which started on 18 March, would remain the same until May.

Summary on 25 March

  • The junta leaders led by Min Aung Hlaing have been making an effort to show that they are ruling the country in a fair manner by arresting some of their followers with a bad reputation for corruption. They might also do the same to other junta appointees and supporters who are not on good terms with them.
  • In Karen State, the junta army faced great losses starting from the middle of March. Their camps were captured one after another. Then, the military junta started talking about a ceasefire as usual. If the other side was to agree to a ceasefire, the junta army would break the agreement and invade the area after reinforcing their forces.
