The Military Council

  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, who seized power by force and who arrested democratically elected leaders, said that there would be no essence of democracy in blind faith and the EAOs were to follow the principles of democracy.
  • The junta leader said that the country mainly used cash and it was still weak in E-banking. There were attacks in terms of economics through banking systems to hurt them.
  • The junta leader said that they had been providing a driving force to agriculture, which was directly helpful to the economy in the rainy season, for a rise in the economic sector and exports.
  • The junta leader instructed officials to identify and arrest those who monopolized the prices of gold and dollars.
  • According to the junta media, council members suggested in a meeting that those who support NUG, CRPH and their other organizations financially and other things, should have legal action taken under the terrorist act and the informers should be rewarded.
  • According to the junta newspaper, Dr. Thida Oo, the junta attorney general, and Myanmar delegation attended 42th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary.
  • According to the junta media, Dr. Kat Aung, Chief Minister of Kachin State, and the government were charged under the anti-corruption law.

  • At a meeting, a military officer of the junta army Ka-La-Ya (34) instructed 16 administrators to inform and report on the activities and judiciary of ULA/AA in the wards of Kyauk Phyu.
  • During a trip to Putao, the junta chief minister of Kachin State said that the military did not seize power. They just maintained the democratic path.
  • On Monday, the junta Central Bank sold 10 million US$. This was the largest amount among 6 sales of the US$ after the military coup.

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights- NUG, said that it was not enough just remembering some bitter events. The truth was to be identified and justice be brought.
  • The NUG announced that they were the official government of Myanmar in accordance with the people’s desire. Turning a blind eye to the people’s desire, the military junta seized power by force. They had been torturing and killing the public. It had been decided by the Myanmar people.
  • The Acting President- NUG said that serving the military junta was an abuse of sovereignty and a rebellion against the public. Therefore, such people would inevitably face the punishment of the public.

Revolution Activities

  • In Shan North, NSSDF was established with a combination of 7 local PDFs.
  • On Monday, Moebye PDF announced that they would take full responsibility for the security of junta soldiers if they joined the public. They would also be rewarded financially if they brought weapons together with them.
  • In Shan South, there were battles between the junta PNO and a combined force of Karenni between Pinlong and Phekone townships, starting from 15th August. According to Karenni Youth Union, over 1000 local residents of 4 villages had to run away as the junta armed forces opened fire with mortars.
  • In Magwe Region, a convoy of 8 military trucks was attacked with mines by Gantgaw PDF on Gantgaw-Kalay road. Reportedly, 4 military trucks were damaged and more than 30 junta soldiers died.
  • On Tuesday, Mandalay Monks’ Union recited Parittas for the end of the military dictatorship.
  • In Sagaing Region, a rally of Monywa-Amyint roadside villages marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • In Kawlin Township, a military truck was hit with mine near Singone village. It was burnt down with the casualties. Reportedly, a large number of armed forces raided nearby villages.
  • On Tuesday afternoon, there was a guerrilla protest with motorbikes against the military dictatorship in Kalay.
  • As 167-day protest, a rally comprising various villages from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East expressed their desire for the downfall of the military dictatorship on Tuesday.
  • Amidst tight security measures in Mandalay, Ba-Ka-Tha students conducted a protest on Tuesday, scattering sheets of paper containing anti-junta slogans at crowded markets.
  • On Tuesday morning, a rally of Chan/Zi in Unity marched against the military watchdog.
  • On Tuesday morning, a rally of Mandalay variety forces protested against the military junta.
  • In Taungdwingyi of Magwe Region, a bomb was thrown at the house of U Htay Ngwe, administrator of Maungdai Ward (2). After the incident, he submitted a letter of resignation.
  • In Yangon Region, Hlaingthaya Guerrilla Force attacked the junta armed forces with grenades in the military-owned yarn and garment factory in Ward (7) of Hlaingthaya Township at about 10:00 pm Monday.
  • In Sanchaung Township, the junta armed forces raided Maitset restaurant at about 7:00 pm Monday. According to local residents, they beat and arrested 5 people, including the owner of the restaurant.
  • On Sunday morning, the junta armed forces arrested Daw Khin Myat Thu, NLD MP of Pyithu Hluttaw in Mingaladone Township.
  • In Longlone Township of Taninthayi Region, the students and the public from Nyinmaw village expressed their objection to the military dictatorship on Tuesday afternoon, chanting slogans in support of people’s soldiers and police.
  • In Ayeyarwaddy Region, there was an explosion in a bunker made by the junta army near Myanmar Economics Bank in Ward (4) of Pathein on Tuesday morning.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Tawtatu Township which is the area of KNLA Regiment (2), there was fighting between KNDO Regiment (4) and the junta armed forces strengthening their manpower on Tuesday Morning.
  • According to local residents, about 60 junta soldiers had been stationing on the road near the entrance to Kyayzudaw village in Yebyu Township of Taninthayi Region which is the area under the influence of KNU.
  • The junta armed forces and BGF had been strengthening their power in the areas under the influence of KNU. If they did it beyond the boundary, there might be heavy fighting, according to KNU Duplalya District.
  • KNU Regiment (6) announced that BGF and the junta armed forces had been in Kawkayait Township to conduct an invasion against them. They had been stationing near monasteries.
  • In an interview with Myanmar Now, KNU Regiment (6) district secretary said that it would be most likely gain victory if the public had strong determination, in addition to hoping for the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • According to KNU Regiment (6) district secretary, the junta army in Tamaigone village made an attack with over 50 mortars for one hour the previous day.
  • In the operation area of KNU Regiment (2), the junta army invading the area were attacked with mines by KNDO Regiment (4) near Yetogyi village on Tuesday morning. Reportedly, more than 10 junta soldiers died.
  • In Kayin State, the sound mortars was heard near the confluence of Thaungyin and Thanlwin rivers on the Thai-Myanmar border on Monday morning. Reportedly, there was fighting between KNLA Regiment (5) and the junta army invading the area.
  • In Pha-Kant Township of Kachin State, KIA burnt down a blue express carrying weapons and rations for the junta armed forces on 21st August.
  • In Tanai-Hukaung valley, KIA attacked the junta army entering the area of KNU Regiment (14). Reportedly, the military junta had a great loss.
  • In Loikaw Township of Karenni State, there were exchanges of fire between the junta army and a combined force of KA-KNDF for half an hour near Konesut village on Tuesday morning.
  • In Shan North, there was heavy fighting between the junta armed forces and MNDAA near Wandingapna village, starting from 11:00 am Tuesday.
  • At Panlone divergent point between Mantone and Nammatu, the junta army was attacked with mines by KIA the previous day.

Summary on 25th August

  • In recent days, a large number of the junta armed forces came into almost all areas of KNU. Consequently, there were battles all across the area. They also invaded the areas in Kachin, Kayah, Chin and Shan North. Therefore, battles broke out in those areas. In Sagaing Region with PDF in great momentum, they mobilized armed forces and oppressed local residents. As a result, the number of IDPs increased. As for the banking system which had not reached the normal operation, it seemed to be a headache for the military junta. They had been trying to earn foreign currency from agriculture which lacked good policies for many years.
  • As for the NUG, they had been persuading the junta armed forces that they would guarantee those who join the public. They had also been trying for CDM staff members.
  • In Sagaing Region, public protests had great momentum and so did the armed revolution. Despite arrests in Mandalay, various rallies still protested against the military dictatorship. Some young people were arrested because of information leakage. As for Yangon, they had almost no protests. On the other hand, their urban guerrilla revolution gained momentum.
