Summary on 25th August

  • The second junta leader instructed ministries to be thrifty with their expenditure as there were no taxes and other sources of income. According to the junta media, they had been trying to sell natural resources (including jade) with available prices. Therefore, it could be roughly predicted that the military junta had financial hardships. If new money notes were printed to solve the financial crisis, the inflation would be higher and the cost of living would go up. Consequently, the public might have to face difficulties.
  • As for the NUG, they had been taking one step after another with the power of the public. Their recent policies and speeches about Rohingya affairs might cause difficulty for the military junta. On the other hand, there were more arrests and killings of political activists, anti-junta youth, NLD members and NUG supporters. Therefore, the NUG should try to protect them as soon as possible.
  • In Sagaing, Mandalay, Magwe and Yangon, anti-junta movements and guerrilla revolution had great momentum. As for other states and regions, they had a few activities of such kind.
  • In Chin, Kayin, Kayar and Shan North with powerful EAOs and armed revolution in the fight against the military junta, there were frequent battles.
